Harrison Barnes’ H.S. Hoops Diary: Official visit to UCLA

Harrison Barnes

Harrison Barnes is the best high school ballplayer in the country. While navigating through the hectic recruiting process such a title entails, the 6-6 wing from Ames, Iowa, agreed to chronicle his thoughts for us during each of his five official visits. After North Carolina, Oklahoma, Kansas and Duke, Barnes recaps his trip to UCLA last weekend. Here are a couple excerpts: Read More »

The Indiana Pacers need this girl

Through the first week of the NBA season, my Indiana Pacers have proven to be one of the softest teams in the League. Unless Tyler Hansbrough is going to be the answer once he comes back from injury, the Pacers need some toughness: In other words, they need a goon. Hopefully Larry Bird caught this clip of New Mexico women’s soccer player Elizabeth Lambert and is discussing a contract.

Reebok Still Talkin’ Quote of the Day – 11.06

Reebok Still Talkin'

In honor of Matty D’s College Basketball Preview, today’s Reebok Still Talkin’ Quote of the Day comes from the college ranks and Oklahoma sophomore guard Willie Warren. ESPN the Magazine asked Warren to give them scouting reports on all of the teams in the Big 12. Warren was not at a loss for words for any team with the exception being Texas A&M (when asked about Texas A&M he just said defense….maybe?). He described Kansas as “War” since that’s what their games are like and Texas as “respect” because that is what their games are about. His best trash talk came before he even gave the scouting reports. Read More »

Kevin Martin Could Miss 6-8 Weeks

Kevin Martin

The Sacramento Kings could be without leading scorer Kevin Martin for the next 6-8 weeks according to the Sacramento Bee. On Monday night, K-Mart collided with Allen Iverson in a game against Memphis and hurt his left wrist in the process. It was revealed later in an MRI that there is a hairline fracture in Martin’s wrist. Read More »

The Yankees Parade Is Going Down In Front Of The Dime Office

Yankees Parade

First of all, shout out to the New York Yankees for winning their 27th chip! But because the Yankees championship parade ends right by the Dime Office in Lower Manhattan, the commute to work has been an absolute nightmare. Between the sea of people in Yankees jerseys chanting “let’s go Yankees” on the N-line train to the 20 minutes it took to walk two blocks from the City Hall subway stop to the Dime office – it’s been an interesting morning to say the least. No lie, I’d never seen so many drunk people before 10 a.m. in my life. Read More »

Roy Hibbert Talks About His Transformation From Rookie To Beast

Roy Hibbert

One of the few bright spots in the Indiana Pacers’ slow start has been the encouraging play of second-year center Roy Hibbert. Throughout the preseason and the early part of the regular season, the former Georgetown Hoyas standout has upped all his stats. In his first four games of the ’09-10 season, Hibbert is averaging 10.8 points, 10.3 rpg and 2.2 bpg. We sat down with Roy a few nights ago, when the Pacers were in town to play the Knicks. Baller’s Blueprint: Mario Chalmers Tells You How to Rack up Steals

Mario Chalmers

Calling Mario Chalmers the modern day “Glove” might be pushing it. While he doesn’t deserve Gary Payton’s title just yet, Chalmers is still a budding game-changer on the defensive end of the floor.

In his rookie season with Miami, the former Kansas Jayhawk was good for two picks per game (fourth best in the NBA). In the postseason, he bumped that number up to 2.9 spg. So far this season he’s recorded at least one steal in every game, and is averaging more than two thefts a night.

During the offseason, Mario gave us his secrets on how to pad your steal stats… Read More »

An Inconvenient Truth

LeBron James

Ask anybody who knows anything about basketball which player they’d choose to build a team around long-term, and most likely they’ll choose LeBron. (Others would probably say Dwight Howard, and other renegades might throw out names like Chris Paul and Derrick Rose.) But if you need a clear example why a lot of those same people who’d build around LeBron for the future would take a handful of guys over him when it comes to a one-time clutch situation in the present, look no further than last night’s Cavs/Bulls game … Read More »
