Carlos Boozer

Beast of the Night: Carlos Boozer dominated the Bulls last night to the tune of 28 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists, 1 steal and 3 blocks. He shot 86 percent (12-14) from the field, 80 percent (4-5) from the free throw line and had 2 turnovers. Boozer’s exceeding expectations this season and seems very motivated to make a good impression on teams who might court him this summer when he becomes a free agent. Read More »

Return of the Centaur

Dwight Howard (photo. Mannion)

Just two games on the NBA’s Thanksgiving schedule: one matching up two Eastern Conference title contenders, the other matching up maybe the two most inconsistent-yet-dangerous squads in the League … Dwight Howard hadn’t really had a Dwight Howard Monster Stat Line in a couple of weeks — as a matter of fact, so far this season he’s been pretty quiet by his standards — but he broke out yesterday with a 22-point, 17-board, 4-block effort against the Hawks. It’s a Fantasy Thanksgiving: Turkeys and Gratitude

Derrick Rose

Here’s a nod to the wonderful celebration of gluttony affectionately known as Thanksgiving. In view of this holiday, let’s take a moment to list this season’s fantasy turkeys (i.e. failures).

The 2009-10 All-Turkey Fantasy Team (So Far) PG: Derrick Rose SG: Caron Butler SF: Gerald Wallace PF: Kevin Garnett C: Dwight Howard Bench: Allen Iverson, Leandro Barbosa, Andre Miller, David West, Rasheed Wallace, Spencer Hawes

It’d be too bleak if we stopped here, so let’s finish things off with a quick look at some players that fantasy owners should be very thankful for so far in this young 2009-10 NBA season, in no particular order. Read More »

Donte Greene

Beast of the Night: Donte Greene went nuts against the Knicks last night, posting 24 points, 4 rebounds, 5 assists, 1 steal and 6 blocks while hitting 6 threes and shooting 69 percent (9-13) from the field. It’s tough to remember the last time a player hit 6 threes and blocked 6 shots in the same game, and it goes without saying that this was a huge night for the second-year player. Greene’s value won’t get higher than it is right now, but he deserves attention in most leagues. Read More »

One year late, Darren Collison schools Brandon Jennings

Darren Collison

As much as I applauded Brandon Jennings for thinking outside the box, taking a risk and playing pro ball in Europe before coming to the NBA, the Pac-10 fan in me was kind of hating that I wouldn’t get to see “Young Money” rip it up for a year at Arizona.

The 12th-seeded ‘Zona squad that made an unexpected run to the Sweet Sixteen last spring would have been a national title contender with Jennings distributing the rock to Jordan Hill, Chase Budinger and Nic Wise. He might have been reason enough for Lute Olson not to retire. Read More »

NBA players who can’t give thanks for their health

Eddy Curry

Today, people all across this country will be giving thanks. Along with good fortune and family and Grandma’s sweet potato pie, one of the staples for which they’ll say thanks is their health.

The NBA is no different than every other sport: Health is the first and foremost asset a player can bring to the table. No matter how talented you are or how much potential you have, if you’re 7-foot-8 or run a 4.1 in the 40, if you’re not on the court, it doesn’t mean anything. Read More »

It’s a New Day

LeBron James

The Detroit broadcast of last night’s Pistons/Cavs game had one of those text-in polls: Who is the Pistons’ perfect rival: Cavs or Celtics? One announcer argued it was the Cavs, “whether they want to admit it or not.” After re-signing Ben Wallace, sticking to the idea that Rip Hamilton could lead them to the promised land, being hesitant to start an official rebuilding project, and thinking last year’s team would have been a contender if not for Allen Iverson, that statement was probably the greatest indication that Detroit is living in the past. The Cavs ain’t worried about the Pistons; they’ve got real contenders in their path. Read More »

Allen Iverson

While word has now spread around the League of Allen Iverson‘s retirement, Stephen A. Smith got up with the Answer to release a statement. While I doubt AI himself wrote this, you know he had to have been involved. You can read it below: Read More »
