We Reminisce: The Legendary Allen Iverson

It still won’t hit me for a bit, but I haven’t been able to stop watching Allen Iverson highlights on YouTube ever since I heard the news. Watch this highlight video (to the tune of Nas‘ “New York State of Mind”) and leave your favorite Iverson memories in the comments below.

Breaking News: Allen Iverson Is Retiring

Allen Iverson

While the writing has been on the wall for weeks, apparently it’s now all over. According to Marc J. Spears from Yahoo! Sports, Allen Iverson‘s personal manager Gary Moore has told him that AI is retiring. While this may not be as shocking as it would have been a couple months ago, you gotta be sad to see him go. Controversy in Portland? Brandon Roy and the National Anthem

Brandon Roy

Now that somebody has called attention to it, let’s see how this one plays out.

In today’s Oregonian, columnist John Canzano writes about something most people didn’t even know about Brandon Roy: That he takes the time during the every-game playing of the National Anthem to say a prayer. By himself. In the tunnel and away from the court. Read More »

J.J. Hickson is the Cavs’ X-factor

J.J. Hickson

Charles Barkley has made a second career out of saying silly things. And seeing as his own TNT colleagues often make fun of his lack of knowledge when it comes to non-stars in the NBA (“Who He Play For?”), it’s easy to just tune Chuck out when he tries to provide insight beyond the Chris Paw-woll and Kobeh Braaaahnt level.

A couple weeks ago during a Cavs highlight, Barkley said J.J. Hickson should be Cleveland’s permanent starting power forward, a couple games after Hickson had been inserted into Anderson Varejao‘s regular spot. Read More »

Pre-Thanksgiving Penny Drink Jump-Off At Stoudemire’s In PHX

Stoudemire's Downtown

The day before Thanksgiving is one of my favorite days of the year. I got back to Vermont this morning (after almost missing my flight) and tonight will be a huge night out at the bars with all my friends from high school. But for those of you in Phoenix, I just came across this party going down at Stoudemire’s Downtown after the Suns/Grizzlies game tonight. Check it out: Read More »

Charles Barkley On The Jay Leno Show

Always good for some soundbites, Charles Barkley was on last night’s Jay Leno Show, going in on his boy Sammy Sosa. “If you saw one of your friends and they were a different color, you’d be like, ‘Damn, dude, you a different color.’” Somewhere Michael Jackson is turning over in his gave.

Brittney Griner’s First College Dunk

If you don’t know who Brittney Griner (a.k.a. the female Dwight Howard) is, then you’ve been sleeping under a rock. We came across a video of her as a high school sophomore in Houston back in March 2007, dunking during practice, and spent a whole morning arguing about it. At the time, one camp in the office said that the rim was lowered because Brittney was making it look too easy; the other said her being 6-5 and those crazy long arms made it legit. Last night, the 6-8 Baylor freshman became just the seventh female to dunk in an NCAA regular-season game (first since February 2008) in a 104-45 victory over Jacksonville State. Candace, watch out!

Can Monta Ellis Work Out In Golden State?

Monta Ellis

Earlier this month, we talked about an almost inevitable trade with Monta Ellis and the Golden State Warriors. With seemingly nothing going right in the bay this season, it looked as if the relationship between Ellis and the Warriors front office was deteriorating quickly. But, with consecutive wins over Portland and Dallas (granted without Shawn Marion), things in Northern Cali are looking a little less gloomy. Read More »

Daily Fantasy Diagnosis: 11.25

Anthony Morrow

Beast of the Night: Anthony Morrow poured in 27 points last night, hitting 6 treys and racking up 9 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals in a full 48 minutes of work for a very short-handed Warriors squad. He shot 56 percent (9-16) from the floor and was perfect (3-3) from the free throw line. This is Morrow’s second consecutive solid line and he should remain a valuable, though somewhat inconsistent, fantasy player for the rest of the season. He’ll see extra minutes and touches during the next week or so as the Warriors slowly recoup. Read More »
