Inaugural Red Bull 2on2 Revolution A Resounding Success

Red Bull 2on2 Revolution

Other than writing about basketball, the next best thing is actually playing it. And last weekend I was able to do both. Traveling the country always looking for a game, I found myself in Hampton, Virginia for the first annual Red Bull 2on2 Revolution. Held at the legendary Boo Williams Sportsplex off of Armistead Pointe Parkway, our first obstacle was getting in (thanks to a large parade blocking the route). But once we were inside, it was some of the best basketball I’d seen in years. Read More »

The Longest Yard

Monta Ellis

If you were ever going to forgive a guy for committing double-digit turnovers in one game, forgive Monta Ellis for his 11 miscues last night. With the majority of Golden State’s roster out of action (including Nellie, who has pneumonia) Monta was one of three guys who played all 48 minutes against Dallas and led the Warriors to a win. Anthony Morrow and Vlad Rad also put in a full night’s work, as fill-in coach Keith Smart used just six players. Smart looks like he could’ve put on some kicks and dropped a few baseline jumpers, but that’s probably against some rule … Read More »

Dime #53: Carmelo’s Mission

'Melo covers Dime #53

They say the mainstream playground fad is dead (Where have you gone, Hot Sauce?), but in the NBA — and really in this whole major pro sports thing — the essence of the park still thrives: It’s a constant proving ground.

Maybe it’s because today’s media is quicker than ever to judge, jury and execute; a few public missteps (or just one if it’s big enough) and we’ll gladly anchor you with a label that will take years to erase. Read More »

Reebok Still Talkin’ Quote of the Day 11.24

Reebok Still Talkin'

A little more than 9 months ago Tracy McGrady took it upon himself to announce he was getting microfracture surgery and would miss the remainder of the 2008-2009 NBA season. The Rockets’ organization was upset because T-Mac opted for the surgery without discussing it with the front office and chose to announce his decision on ESPN before the team was fully aware of the situation. 9 months later the Rockets have taken the decision making out of T-Mac’s hands. For today’s Reebok Still Talkin’ Quote of the Day we take a look at Tracy McGrady’s take on the situation. Read More »

The Most Popular Jersey in Tanzania

Iverson Jerseys

When the Grizzlies signed Allen Iverson over the offseason, it seemed like a home run for the team’s marketing department. After all, from 1998-2008, A.I. ranked third in jersey sales – only behind Kobe and Jordan. Now that Iverson has worn out his welcome in Graceland, the Grizzlies were stuck with a bunch of useless Iverson merchandise. Read More »

Deron Williams Will Do Everything Short Of Begging To Get Your All-Star Vote

Deron Williams

Deron Williams knows getting voted into this year’s All-Star Game in his hometown Dallas is a popularity contest. And frankly, he ain’t that popular. Not compared to Chris Paul, Kobe Bryant, Tony Parker and even Steve Nash anyway. Playing in a small market like Utah and not being the face of any national endorsement deals, D-Will is at a slight disadvantage. But that is not stopping him from trying. Deron is looking to pull out every stop short of begging to start in the league’s midseason classic. Read More »

5 Rookies That Demand More Attention

Marcus Thornton

Sports media lately has been hit by cupid’s Italian love arrow with an over saturation of all things Brandon Jennings. We all know by now what Young Money and fellow rookies Tyreke Evans and Ty Lawson are capable of. But quietly, the rest of the rookie pile is exceeding many people’s expectations of their class prior to last June’s draft. Across the board, there are numerous rooks making an impact with their respective teams. Here are a few young guys whose play should demand more minutes and attention. Read More »

Gilbert Arenas Puts His Teammate On Blast

Gilbert Arenas, Dime #29

The Wizards were suppose to be the comeback team of the year, they were suppose to challenge the Magic, Celtics and Cavaliers, they were suppose to be contenders. Instead the team formerly known as the Bullets were derailed by injuries and sputtered off to a slow start. Instead of Michael Lloyd Miller and Randy Foye anchoring one of the strongest benches in the league, they have been oft injured or filling in for injured stars. Read More »

Greg Oden Makes Portland A Contender

Greg Oden

With Portland’s 122-98 beat down of Chicago last night, the Blazers are looking more and more like the team many predicted they’d be this year: a squad that will vie for the Western Conference Finals and possibly beyond.

Do you know who puts this team over the hump? Gregory Wayne Oden Jr. Read More »
