Derrick Rose Smashes One Down On Greg Oden’s Face

Derrick Rose answered any questions about whether his ankle was still bothering him. At the start of the third quarter of last night’s game between the Blazers and Bulls, 6-3 Derrick Rose went baseline and dunked it hard on 7-1 Greg Oden. You can bet Greg stayed away from any TVs after the game.

The Biggest Myth in College Basketball

John Calipari and Tyreke Evans

A couple years ago I had an opportunity to interview John Calipari for Dime. Aiming to do something different with the biggest rock-star coach in the college game, I came up with the idea to have Coach Cal talk to me like I was a big-time recruit and give me his pitch on why I should play for him at Memphis. Thus was born “The Pitch,” our now-regular feature where we’ve had everybody from Rick Barnes to Reggie Theus share their recruiting tactics.

It was only right that Calipari set the standard. After all, he is the best salesman in the college game. Read More »

Daily Fantasy Diagnosis: 11.24

Marcus Camby

Beast of the Night: Marcus Camby scored 12 points, grabbed 18 boards and dished out 4 assists while racking up 3 steals and 1 block. He shot 67 percent (6-9) from the field and turned the ball over twice. He’s having somewhat of a disappointing season so far, but his owners have to be pleased that he put up this big line. Camby’s injury history and the nearing return of Blake Griffin mean that his owners shouldn’t expect this type of production on a nightly basis. It also might be a good time to sell high on him. Elton Brand Says This Year Is ‘Definitely Personal’ For Him

Elton Brand

In this sport, it’s surprisingly easy to go from a superstar one day to be forgotten the next. With career averages of 20 ppg and 10.1 rebounds, Elton Brand is manchild in the paint. But being injured for the majority of the past two seasons, his stock has dropped a little bit in the sports world. So far in the 2009-10 season, Brand has struggled heavily coming out of the gates but has started to turn his play around the last few games. The Sixers hope he can build on his recent success and return to his All-Star form.

Just days before the start off the season, Dime traveled to Philly and caught up with Elton to talk about his new shoe, the Sixers and even rock and roll music. Read More »

Bucked Up

Brandon Jennings

Sporting an 8-3 record going into Monday’s action, the Bucks were still a tough team to figure out. Brandon Jennings could make a good case for League MVP of the first month, and with Michael Redd returning to the lineup, some people think the Bucks are gearing up for a playoff run. Then again, an alarmingly soft schedule — almost all of Milwaukee’s wins have been against surefire Lottery teams — has others thinking the Bucks are just taking advantage of patsies until the rest of the League compiles its scouting report on Jennings. Although Andrew Bogut and Luc Richard Mbah a Moute would be out for last night’s game at San Antonio, it was still seen as a good test for one of the League’s early-season surprises … Read More »

The Return Of Mike Dunleavy Jr. Could Happen Soon

Help might be coming soon for the Indiana Pacers. Mike Dunleavy Jr. who had surgery last spring to remove a bone spur in his right knee has been cleared by doctors to play. It is doubtful Dunleavy will be thrown back into the lineup in the next few weeks as he is trying to get back into game shape, but his return will be a lot sooner than originally anticipated. This is definitely good news for the 5-6 Pacers, who are in need of another scoring option, particularly one on the perimeter.

Shawn Marion Rocks The House In Dallas

House of Hoops - Dallas

This weekend saw the fifth House Of Hoops opening in 2009 take place – this time in Dallas, Texas – and it seemed like the old adage “save the best for last” was certainly true. The Foot Locker location in the Town East Mall of Mesquite was packed with people waiting to see Shawn Marion take the stage to officially open the store. Read More »

Breaking Down Why the Spurs Are Off to Their Worst Start in a Decade

Tim Duncan

On paper San Antonio looked like a team that was going to challenge the Lakers for the top spot in the West. Right now, the Spurs look like a team that is challenging the Thunder for a playoff spot. The Spurs have come out of the gate struggling (5-6) and up until their win against Washington on Saturday, they lost their previous three games. One of those losses was at home against the Jazz, a team that hasn’t won in San Antonio since 1999. They are off to their worst 10-game start since the Duncan era began. Read More »
