Newsday is reporting that the Knicks have apparently decided not to offer Allen Iverson a contract. A source close to the Knicks told beat writer Alan Hahn that management had a lot of interest in the former All-Star but decided to pass. The Knicks’ record currently sits at 2-9 and are second to last in the Eastern Conference. With point guard Chris Duhon struggling, acquiring Iverson would not only fill a need but would bring back excitement to the Garden. We at the Dime office are strong advocates of A.I. being a Knick, so we are hoping the rumor isn’t true.
If you haven’t heard, this is supposed to be a down year for the Pac-10.
Over the summer the conference lost James Harden, Jordan Hill, DeMar DeRozan, Jrue Holiday, Darren Collison, Taj Gibson, Jeff Pendergraph, Jon Brockman and Chase Budinger to the NBA Draft. Going back to 2008, the Pac-10 also lost O.J. Mayo, Kevin Love, Russell Westbrook, the Lopez twins, Jerryd Bayless and Ryan Anderson, all of whom would still been in school today had they not gone pro early. Read More »
It’s not personal it’s business. Getting traded is just a part of the glamorous world of professional sports. But four times over a course of two months? Welcome to Quentin Richardson’s offseason. In a span of seven weeks, the 29-year-old forward was traded from New York to Memphis, Memphis to the L.A. Clippers, L.A. to Minnesota and finally Minnesota to the Miami Heat. Just days before Heat training camp, we caught up with Q-Rich to talk about his crazy summer, his days with the Knicks and his fresh start in South Florida. Read More »
It’s true: what a difference a year can make. It was only two seasons ago that the Oregon State Beavers were the laughing stock of the Pac-10 – literally, going 0-18 in conference play. That was until new coach Craig Robinson, by way of Brown University, was chosen last spring to lead OSU out of its funk. Under Robinson, who is also President Obama’s brother-in-law, the Beavers went 18-18 while also winning the CBI title over UTEP in his first year.
One of the major reasons for Oregon State’s massive turnaround: current senior, Seth Tarver. Read More »
In basketball and every other major pro team sport, we always seem to be in the middle of a period where one position is enjoying a “Golden Era.” Right now, a lot of people would say this is a Golden Era for point guards in the NBA. And if you haven’t seen Dime’s NBA preview issue yet, there I wrote that we’re seeing the beginning of a Golden Era for small forwards.
At the beginning of this decade, though, we were in the age of the power forward. Read More »
No matter how old and inconsistent he gets, apparently Peja Stojakovic will always be able to light up the Suns. In what could have been one of those rock-bottom moments for the Hornets — national TV, no Chris Paul, interim coach, hosting a red-hot opponent who could conceivably drop 130 points on ‘em and get them booed out of their own gym — N.O. showed some heart and pulled off an upset win behind Peja’s 25 points, 13 boards and seven threes. It wasn’t the first time Peja has taken down the Suns on a big stage: Read More »
If you all you know about Dominique Wilkins are his dunk contest titles and a shootout with Larry Bird, you’re missing out. In this game from February 1987, a full year before the famous ’88 playoff duel with Bird, ‘Nique drops 54 points on Larry’s crew.
There’s not player hotter in the NBA right now than Brandon Jennings. Averaging 24.8 points, 4.7 rebounds and 5.8 assists per game, while shooting 48% from the floor and a ridiculous 56% from beyond the arc, Jennings is not only putting up unbelievable stats but the Bucks are also 6-3 and the No. 4 team in the East. Check out this video that the League put together on Young Money’s NBA journey.
There were quite a few compelling story lines after last night’s NBA action. Eddy Curry returned to the court, Dirk Nowitzki showed he is the most clutch player in the NBA, the Atlanta Hawks continued to prove that they are legit and the Cavs/Wizards “rivalry” was renewed. The Wizards, a staple of Reebok Still Talkin’ Quote of the Day series, were on a 6 game losing streak but had their team at full strength and use that strength to pull out a 108-91 victory. For today’s Quote of the Day we look at Gilbert Arenas’ post game remarks. Read More »
The New Jersey Nets are making a run at the wrong side of history. After starting 0-12, Lawrence Frank’s squad is inching closer to tying the ’88-89 Heat and ’98-99 Clippers for the worst start in NBA history. No doubt about it, the Nets are horrible. They have been playing without star Devin Harris, who has been out with a groin injury since Oct. 30, and have been forced to rely on a roster filled with young players. While more losses are definitely in the cards for this Nets team, the question remains will they go 0-18? We took a look at their upcoming schedule to find out. Read More »
