Who’s Better: Brandon Jennings or Derrick Rose?

Brandon Jennings

We argue. You decide.

BRANDON JENNINGS (by Jack Jensen)
For whatever reason, I had always discredited Brandon Jennings’ game. Since “Young Money” was being paraded around as the next sure thing at Oak Hill Academy in high school, I was sure he’d be more hype than value. The trash talking little guard from Compton would pan out like Darius Washington Jr. or Sebastian Telfair (who is just now becoming a reliable backup) and never quite reach his top-tier billing, I quietly thought. Welp, 15 games into his career and you can safely check that feeling off on my “Oops” list.

I can’t fully claim that I am Chicago-bred, but in my time living there, I have seen few players that match Derrick Rose’s excitement level for the city post-Jordan. The truth is, I would be tickled to have either one of these cats running my team for the next ten years. Rose is bigger (6-3, 190 to Jennings’ 6-1, 169) and can out-muscle smaller defenders easier than Jennings. He has a higher shooting percentage (46.2 to Jennings 43.3) and is one of few guards in the league that can match Jennings’ quickness step-for-step. Rose has also led his team to the playoffs in ’09 and upped his averages to log over 19 and 6 per game against the Celts; all en route to winning Rookie of the Year. So then why would I take Jennings?

Because Jennings is already better than Rose and we’ve only seen the tip of the iceberg.

If his double nickel against the Warriors wasn’t impressive enough — or the 32 points and 9 dimes against Denver that preceded it — Jennings has led the Bucks to eight wins and a 6th seed in the East currently. Through the first 29 days of November, Jennings has averaged 22.5 points and 5.5 helpers to Rose’s 18.9 and 6.1 in that same time during his rookie year.

Jennings is a far superior shooter and scorer than Rose, albeit Rose can get to the basket with more consistency. Not only is Jennings already being tagged as the NBA’s next R.O.Y. in November, he has a chance to become an All-Star in his first year. Stats aside, the Bucks are winning and have bought into Jennings’ potential and style of play. He has a scorer’s mentality, but understands running the offense through the team — he’s not as selfish as I originally assumed — although, he does tend to try and shoot his way out of a funk.

Rose continues to get by successfully through his athleticism and strength, while Jennings has much more finesse in his play. With a game on the line, I would honestly be happy with either guard taking the ball down the floor. Jennings has the edge on offense, whereas Rose is a better on-ball defender. But I would give the outright victory to Jennings. We will see who gets the better of who in tonight’s Bulls/Bucks game (8 p.m. EST), but my coinage is on Young Money to not only sidestep Rose, but continue on his rookie year rampage in the League. Jennings is going to get as good as he wants to and we’ve only begun to witness this kid’s potential.

Derrick Rose

DERRICK ROSE (by Austin Burton)
You’d be surprised how many NBA players walk around quoting Janet Jackson on a regular basis.

What have you done for me lately?

Ballplayers on every level know it’s a constant theme. Whether it’s a high school kid shooting to the top of the rankings after one hot summer, a college guy who has his breakout in the Tournament when the nation is watching, or any player in the League, they know that in the eyes of the rest of us, they’re only as good as their last game.

Derrick Rose knows it, too, so he won’t be surprised that Brandon Jennings has hijacked his spot as the NBA’s golden child point guard; that in a lot of eyes, he’s no longer the best “Next” out there.

It took Rose the majority of last season, including his playoff explosion against Boston, to earn the kind of hype Jennings was getting before Black Friday. Even stranger is that Rose is the one playing for a major-market team, who played in the Final Four, who was the No. 1 pick in the Draft. Jennings plays for Milwaukee, he was more of a myth than a reality to casual fans as an amateur, and he didn’t even show up to the Draft at first because he wasn’t sure he’d be a Lottery pick. And now a little more than a month into his rookie year, Jennings is the talk of the League.

What have you done for me lately?

Although Rose (15.4 ppg, 5.1 apg) has gotten off to a slow start this season — mostly due to a preseason ankle injury — and Chicago been inconsistent in the process, he is still the point guard you want for the future and the better point guard right now. I’m a big fan of Jennings. I’ve known him since he was a freshman in high school and predicted he’d be an instant impact pro. He’s a better outside shooter than Rose, a better passer, and less than 20 games into his NBA career, BJ has shown he can produce in crunch time.

But Rose is bigger and stronger, a better finisher in the lane, a better defender, and is proven in the clutch and in big games. Jennings has been great against the Warriors and Bobcats and Grizzlies; Rose has shined against the Lakers and Nuggets and Cavs. Rose has actual playoff wins under his belt. He’s gone through the League rotation a couple of times, unlike Jennings, so everyone has scouted him and he’s not a surprise. We know Rose can thrive in an 82-game schedule and still have enough left to dominate in the playoffs.

Jennings could do that, but you’ll have to check back later to find out. And if the Bulls are healthy and Rose is in another postseason by then, he’ll get another big stage on which to outshine the competition and reclaim his spot as the best next thing.

Who do you think is better?

  1. Rare Air says:

From a purely physical standpoint you would have to take D Rose. But Yung Buck has a better all around game. Right now I’d give a slight nod to D Rose because he has a year of experience including playoffs under his belt. This will be a great matchup to watch over the next few years.

My biggest concern for Jennings will be hitting a wall at some point this year given the amount of practice/workout/shooting time he does. It has made him the player/leader that he is, but it could slump his numbers in the second half of the year.

Go Bucks in tonights Bulls/Bucks tilt!

  2. control says:

I would give it to Rose, mostly because of the size 0 womens jeans from Hot Topic Jennings seems to like to wear.

  3. i am a witness says:

d rose is a buss……. he has no heart no killa instinct…no nothing…..B JENNINGS b da MAN RITE DURR…. you should post who’s better b jennings or r. westbrook tahts whats up

  4. MoxWestCoastRep says:

wow. Im in a keeper league and my homie has this decision to make too. He’s actually leaning Jennings.
I think you have to go with Jennings too. Younger, better shooter and more mature.
    boom.

  5. BiG ShoT BoB says:

Nah Jennings is still over rated imo. Rose is bigger and a better defender. BJ will have problems with big guards posting him his whole career…enough said.

  6. Soopa says:

    Too tough to decide… yet!

Rose is not playing at 100% yet after his bum ankle. His so-so play this season is cos of that injury and when he is healthy, he’ll have a better season then Jennings.

Jennings is the only offensive threat on the Bucks right now and until Bogut returns, he is gonna have a tough time escaping the defensive schemes thrown at him (case in point: 4 games losing streak without Bogut, scoring 15ppg shooting 28%), so he is in for a tough stretch. My guess is that his stats will settle on around 14/6/4 and Tyreke will swoop in and take home ROY.

Meanwhile Rose will get healthy and push Chitown to a 7-8th seed. Also, Rose is shooting the ball 15 times per game compared to Jennings’ 20. If Rose was on the Bucks his numbers would be even better then Jennings’ at this point.

So if im starting a franchise today, ill take Rose over Jennings.

  7. MoxWestCoastRep says:

Good points but you are missing one glaring difference. Jennings at 19 is the Leader of a team of Vets. He has played less than 20 games and everyone on that team knows he’s the leader.
    Thats crazy.
I think the bulls, even after they know how good Rose is, dont completely trust him. Rose has been in trouble with the law plus all the Memphis scandal stuff.
I dont think you can discount the leadership of Jennings and how much the team and management trust him.
Rose is GREAT, but I think Jennings has the chance to be legendary.
    Thats why I choose BJ.

  8. Shrink This says:

    Rose.

I’d want to see Jennings keep this pace up for an entire season before I’d pick him over DRose.

  9. MBE18 says:

Based on what I have seen this year, I’d go with Jennings.

  10. LakeShow84 says:

I’d take Rose cuz he can man up on Defense better..

We’ve already watched him make some clutch defensive plays and coming from a player as explosive scoring wise as he is the defense is a bonus..

Not to discount what Jennings has done but ill take the all around package in Rose..

But imagine Jenning sophomore year.. usually thats when u can tell who will be great or not.. i think Jennings will be solid.. especially with a healthy Redd..

  11. MSkittle says:

Jennings can shoot way better= Jennings, hands-down.

  12. POPPI GEE says:

    Now Rose later Jennings.

Man it’s going to be pure nuts whenever Jennings makes the playoffs.

1 or 2 games I really think he will drop 50 on some squad when he reaches them.

  13. hahns says:

yeah this post is ridiculous. already crowning young money? i like him as much as the next guy- but lets be real, the kids career is only 15 games deep. hes got a LOT of seasons left to play. once he makes his first trip around the league and teams start getting his scouting report, then lets see where this debate is at.

lets not forget that the bulls simply have a better team where derrick rose is not the first offensive option- young money’s 55 was against the worst defensive team in the league, playing on the bucks, and without michael redd taking his shots.

i dont know if derrick rose can put up 55, but if he was on the bucks w/o michael redd playing against the warriors, im pretty sure he could put up some gaudy numbers as well.

  14. Chicagorilla says:

Initially before the draft it was hands down DROSE.

Then came summer league, pre-season, the 55 point game, and a few highlight games later and I was starting to think BJENNINGS (I’m not calling him young anything, shit is gay).

Then Jennings had to face Popovich the mastermind, and the truth came out. When teams actually do scout work and prepare for him, they can cool him off. BJ has to learn how to adjust to different schemes and he seems to be getting by on his phsycial abilites (speed and quickness and heart) rather than his skill.

Rose is at the point where the physical ability helps him, but he is picking up a ton of skill. He is the unquestioned leader on this bulls team when it comes to crunch time (Kirk Hinrich is the locker-room leader…and a very good one). Rose is looking like that ankle is near 100% and during the road trip he asserted his will on a few games trying to keep the bulls in the game, but the big men were too terrible to overcome.

    On-ball defense = Tie
    Mid Range FG = Tie
    3pt Range = Jennings
    Finish at rim = Rose
    Passing = Tie
    breaking def down = tie
defensive awareness = tie (they are both terrible)
Heart = Slight edge to Jennings
    Physical ability = Rose
Head to head = Rose all the way back to HS.

So in the end, DROSE wins slightly. But Jennings is right there. Russ Westbrook is slightly behind both of them, but he plays with Durant which is a huge advantage for him.

  15. hahns says:

btw, last 4 games for jennings (after m.redd’s return): 18, 12, 14, 12. all losses.

ever hear of a hot streak? lets not crown this kid yet…

  16. Chicagorilla says:

Also I’d like to point out one thing

Early in DRose’s career (1st 25 games or so) teams did not know how they were going to guard him. They’d always go under the screen on the pick-n-roll. Which left Rose open for many mid-range jumpers and he knocked them down consistantly. Then they started doubling him on the pick-n-rolls forcing him to give up the ball to the screener (usually Drew Gooden at the time) and forcing the other players to make the play instead of Rose. Rose’s coach (vinny Del Negro) has not figured out a counter for this which would allow Derrick room to penetrate the defense and find open players or score himself.

As of today, teams are going under the screen on Jennings, which is giving him wide open 3’s and mid-range shots. Once they start to grasp that he can hit that shot, they will change up the game plan (Like Greg Popovich did) and chase him off the screen forcing him to make the pass at a faster pace which can cause some extra turnovers. Jennings more than likely will start to shoot more instead of trying to make the pass, which will lower his FG% even more and hsi assist totals. He may even become the next Allen Iverson (I’m a SG trapped in a PG’s body). Seeing as how Skiles is playing him at the 2guard while Luke Ridnour is playing the PG spot til Redd gets healthy.

If any of you that chose Jennings have studied this, then you’d see why Rose is still the better option at this point. Rose has survived the changing defenses and pressure of the #1 pick to be ROTY. Jennings came in as a underdog that no one cared about (as shown by his draft stock falling) and he’s out to make them all look foolish (I’m mainly talking about Minnesota, New York, G-State, Minnesota again, and Memphis.

  17. Chaos says:

this is the same convo we have with CP3 and D-Will, and honestly its too early to tell because both have a lot to learn and a ong way to go. brandon jennings will be figured out like rose was. Rondo is better than both of them right now. how bout that. anyway….

from a physical stand point its rose but he has a lot more to learn as to being a point guard. jennings is more of a scoring pg but depending on his team (healthy bogut ad redd) he will haveto switch from scorer to floor leader. also he will be at a disadvantage by ther pgs who are just as fast and quick and athletic, bigger and stronger and more poished (Rose, Rondo, CP3, D-Will, Arenas, TP, and Westbrook).

  18. Cha-Ching says:

Please ask this question when Jennings has played a full season.

  19. eyes says:

I judge players based on role reversal. The Bulls are the obvious better team. Therefore Rose assist count should be higher. D.Rose is a lead guard who usually doesn’t get others high % shots. Brandon is a point guard who can easily tally double digit assists nightly. He only looks to score because he has too. I think if Jennings heads the Bulls they’re easily a 4/5 seed in the east & everyone #’s would increase. Especially Salmons,Deng. The Bucks starting lineup is still coming into their own. Forget where he was drafted he was a top 2 talent. They just don’t know any better. He didn’t fail in Italy. They failed him playing him limited minutes.

He also has a guard(Luke Ridnour) who’s backed by the coach pushing him for minutes. Lindsey Hunter is Rose backup. LOL. His stats decreasing has a lot less to do with him & other teams than you’ll be lead to believe. Chi saw something I laughed about. Skiles plays Jennings at the 2 in favor of his step son. Why? Your guess is as good as mine. Age doesn’t play a factor either. Some of you guys say Bron is better than Kobe. That still bothers me to this day. From a skill standpoint to me I’d compare BJ to a Van Exel/Kenny Anderson. Rose I compare to a Tony Parker & Young Stephon Marbury. You be the judge. It’s both Rose & Jennings team. The Bulls seem to know that. The Bucks are still struggling trying to bring Redd back not healthy and make Ridnour look like something he’s not.

I think somethings will be cleared up tonight if Jennings is allowed to play his game and run his team. Also the Rook/Soph game is going to answer a lot of questions. Side note: On the current losing streak Ridonour is avg 30+ min causing a defensive matchup the whole time. Lets not be so quick to jump on &off the wagon. 55 is 55. Damn why do people look for ways to discredit others. Sadddd. Kobe’s 81 was 81. It’s not easy to score 40 let alone 30+ in a N.B.A. game. As of know I have BJ being the best Point guard on the East from a skill standpoint. If he was on the Celtics they may be undefeated. His only weakness is his strength. Secondly his coach is way to overbearing and sub happy. Check all stats when comparing.

Also I’d like to clear something up. My views are those of someone who’s played with & coached pros. I see things wrong or right a little different. It’s why I laugh when people say I couldn’t see it or I thought he would be good. I do love reading a lot of the post on this site. It gives great insight to one’s opinions. Whatever that is please keep enjoying the game & hopefully someone’s listening. I think some of you would make great coaches, scouts,GM’s,courtside fans one day.

  20. David Miller says:

Drose is better than Jennings. Jennings is a better scorer and shooter than drose but we know what rose can do. As the season goes on Jennings nubers will go down. but right now jennings is playing like he has something to prove. And he dose, he has to prove it to the Kings and the Timberwoves for picking Evans, Rubio and Flynn over him.

  21. Detroit Dave says:

55 points means that you were extremely hot one day. Hell even Tony Delk dropped 50pts back when he was a Sun.

  22. hbee says:

    rose anyday

  23. ProphetGK says:

    When Rose is 100%, he’ll smoke Jennings…

  24. eyes says:

Tony Delk was a prolific scorer. I hear you guys him avg what he is. It’s all a fluke & padded stats. @Prophet we’ll wait & see. Remember having Skiles as a coach is a handicapp as well.

Also BJ doesn’t play like A.I. He plays more like Ginobli if anything. Monta/DWade & Bynum are more A.I.
He’s even closer to Damon Stoudemire. He mentioned Kenny Anderson in one of his interviews. Remember people were all taking notice of the Bucks. That they’re even in games with their team & lineup with the likes of the Magic/Spurs & other elite teams. Speaks highly of their pg of the future. He single handely changed face & made them Relevant. They’re in almost every game & have one of the worst teams in the league. Along with the angriest, probably most stubborn coach in the league. Brandon this, Brandon that. Wait a min I have to slow this kid down. Everyone was talking & he could have honestly earned an All Star bid. Before it even took form. We’ve seen a regression in his minutes & oppurtunity to lose & win games for them. Scott has tried to use Luke instead of going with either Bell,Meeks or Delfino.

  25. eyes says:

If BJ played for the Knicks he’d avg 35+. We’d be winning and D’antoni would be happy. Chris Duhon could be an Assistant Coach at Duke. Gallinari could do something besides shoot spot up 3’s. Chandler would play like last yr. David Lee & Nate Robinson would really have fun. L.Hughes would be more useful. Mr. Harrington would improve on his already stellar season. Eddy Curry would go on a better Diet & produce like we expect. He would have top the 50 point a few more times. The Critics they love you guys. It feels good to prove somebody wrong. Ricky Rubio better be good. LOL. Pouring out some ink toner for the Knicks & Nets. YOu don’t have a clue how sad its been the past yrs for us.

  26. momo says:

man you guys are kidding, right? this kid had a few high scoring gaems in the elague and your already comparing him ot Rose? Shit, just the comparison is an insult to Rose.

Dime, you guys are falling off in the relevancy factor man, for real.

  27. Diggity Dave says:

I’d need to see a whole season out of BJ to really have a valid opinion. So far, I love his game. Rose has been good so far, but it’s not a stretch whatsoever to say they’re pretty even.

  28. eyes says:

This is Rose second yr in the league right? What has he done that warrants he’s the best in the east. Remember he also has Kirk Hinrich there for a reason. He really isn’t a PG. He reminds you at times of a Jason Kidd. He has a promising future. Lets let him continue to produce as well. Let’s erase what everyone does until the season ends then. That argument makes no sense. BJ is a 20 yr old winning wth the Bucks. Starting and Manning a team as bad as the Knicks to play exciting & winning basketball. That means something in my book. Don’t care if you think he should have went to College or is in a small market & you’re not able to watch him on a nightly basis. Watch the games then talk. Espn or Newspapers. Even NBA Fastbreak don’t do him any justice. You can’t name 10 players in the N.B.A. that could or are going to have a qtr like he had against the warriors let alone post 55pts in the flow of the offense. Put him on some better teams and he’d have a chip his rookie yr. Then what???? It’s because of this & that. Do you only blog because you have a computer.

Factor in the N.B.A. doesn’t have as much talent from past seasons. The kid could have played in any era. He’s special beyond the norm. You could see it if your were special. You had to be able to do some of the things he’s able to do. Playing video games or computer games don’t count. Even making every shot in your driveway against neighbors doesn’t equate. For anybody who’s played real competition at a high level would understand every feat he’s accomplished is pretty amazing. He would have dominated overseas competition given the minutes. They don’t want us outshining their players. If he went to College it wouldn’t have been fair what he would have done. Chase, him, & Jordan Hill would all be starting on the Rookies 1st team list. They might have even spoiled North Carolina’s run. Real recognizes Real.

  29. hooper5013 says:

Derrick rose is not better than brandon jennings

  30. hooper5013 says:

Jennings is far better its not even close

  31. buck says:

jennings all the way. a far superior pg. rose is overrated. great athlete with some highlights but thats about it.

  32. Amos says:

Brandon just got here and even tho his team is on their way..I still think D. Rose is better..shoot to be really honest…it wouldn’t matter which one you took..i think it all depends on what you are looking for. I think brandon is better scorer but Rose is a better defender.

  33. Marlo Intellect says:

You gonna do Kobe vs Jordan or LeBron any time soon?

  34. bigcov says:

Jennings because he has charisma. drose is boring as hell. his interviews are painful to watch. I’ll take my chances with the young gun.

  35. rban says:

    Rodney Stuckey,

    18 5 and 4

  36. eyes says:

The new brandon Jennings is playing like he’s afraid to make a mistake or get subbed by super coach. He’s not looking at the basket. D.Rose was going at the kid. That ankle looks good. Great way to show who’s boss Skiles. What was wrong wth Super Luke ? Bj looks scared all of a sudden. D.Rose is not a pg. Vinny del Negro doesn’t have a clue. J.Johnson can’t get a dnp. Pargo is pretty good too. Bj u better get that swag back. It’s important. Why was D.Rose bopping people like that. He froze shook and shimmy’d bell one play.

  37. eyes says:

It’s okay he messes up at times. He plays & acts like a vet but still is a rook. Don’t let them take ur fire. It what makes him great. Skiles took the keys back. Handed one to Luke. LOL. The Bucks aren’t exciting anymore. Luke was credited wth playing well the past games. Too bad we lost all of them.

  38. da real says:

Jennings is too fraile his body will break down in about 20 more games. This aint high school or europe.

  39. QQ says:

Jennings right now, but those who are saying Rose is a bust, get off the pipe, assholes. Come on that kid can play. He can be the better all around point guard, while Young $ can be the better scoring pg.

  40. bfears says:

    young money!

  41. crimewave says:

It’s close…but i’ll take Young Money. For those saying Jennings is just a scoring guard, you need to actually watch dude play. He’s already reacting to defensive rotations on him and Bogut like a vet and making the right play…you can’t teach instinct, and in that department he’s already way ahead of Rose

  42. Chicagorilla says:

    @eyes

Yeah you not popping off at the mouth about how Jennings is so much better now. Rose should have had like 30 on him. But the Bulls were too stupid to give him the rock in the post against BJ, instead we kept going to Noah and Gibson early on on those pick-n-rolls/pops.

Also, Rose has been giving it to Jennings since High school. I think he might have the big brother mentality over Jennings. even though they are only a year apart. Rose seems to go right at BJ anytime BJ does something remotely good and Rose wins the battle. Rose vs. Jennings will be a great battle to watch for the next 5-8 years. I’m glad he’s in the central division. It’s only going to make them both better. Now all we need is John Wall to end up in Indiana and that will set off the central division.

  43. eyes says:

    @ rilla
BJ couldn’t stop him. Could of used some kind of help side D. I heard he’s been getting at him since. From a physical standpoint the argument & games aren’t close but from a skill standpoint. My opinion I’d still take Jennings. The Bulls have a better than decent team. Rose can play 40+ min a night. With a bum ankle the assists should be way up there. It’s why w/o explosion he & the Bulls are struggling. If Brandon had equal or just a little bit more mass it would be even more exciting.

It’s why Deron gives Paul so much trouble. I like Williams better because of the consistent jumper. Even with Kobe/Lebron. From a physical standpoint he’d bully Kobe but from Skills Lebron is at least 3-5 years behind. Joe Johnson/Melo/Gilbert all have higher skill sets. It’s a combination of both. Rose is on his way to being great and I think one day he’ll have a chip before BJ. Reason being Wade or JJ is thinking about teaming up. They both need some pieces and the league is going to have & be back to some great guard PLAY. Would start any franchise with either & yes even RONDO.

  44. eyes says:

    @da real
In fact the lighter your body mass & weight the better your body holds up aside from injuries. It’s why A.I. could play at least 5 more years at a high level. They have the same body build. Praying on the downfall. I know all the praise bothers you. He’s a rookie so what. It’s because he’s on the Bucks. Only because the other rookies aren’t playing as much minutes. He’s lefty. It all is irrelevant to the fact that he proves he belongs in the N.B.A. Wolves howling at the moon. Wishing bad on someone only brings you down. He actually is only going to get better when everyone is healthy & Skiles hands back the team or leaves. Pride can kill sometimes. It’s killing the league,Stern, the expert scouts & all those who thought otherwise. Even the miserable old refs are mad. This young kid who reminds them of what they think is wrong wth the league is excelling. He finally got the benefit of the doubt with the whistle. He’s everything this League should want & need. No BJ in the league you might have lost another fan. I tune in & watch every game. I can’t say that for maybe even 3 teams. I’m from NY wouldn’t want free courtside tickets to Nets or Knicks games. YOu couldn’t pay me to Market that nonsense.

I just figured out what’s wrong with the league. Can anybody name 10 let alone 5 players in the D-League. The system caters to the ones Stern & Co think should make it. Players feel that once they’re here. They won’t be pushed or challenged to get better. That is killing the sport. You have to feel threatned in some kind of way to bring out the best in you at times. I’m sure a lot of players get better run & practice in the summer and in pro leagues. I’ve asked & spoke to many former & current players who say it’s easy to play in the N.B.A just extremely hard to get there. Watching summer league is just bad. The players get recycled over & over. Same for the coaches. Mike Wilks/Gabe Pruitt that can’t be the best of what’s left out there. The DLeague actually benefits the coaches & refs more so than the players. Has to be the worse farm system out there. Again I wonder why??? LOL.

    @eyes,

Looking on paper at the Bulls then you may think they are a good team, but I watch them every game and they are far from Good when Rose is slightly off in any way. You have to remember, this team was a lottery team without Rose. Then add in Miller/Salmons + take away Gordon and you get a decent team. a 6-8 seed in a now very competitive east. My only concerns about Rose as a rookie was that his passing IQ was not high at all to be an elite Pg. I was impressed by his 6 assist per game because the offense is set up not for him to get the assist (ala Steve Nash, Chris Duhon, Deron Williams, Chris Paul), but set up for HIS PASS, to LEAD TO AN ASSIST for someone else. Which is good basketball still. It’s nearly the same offense Calipari runs.

Vinny Del is not the coach for DRose. Doug Collins was originally signed, and would have been a prefect fit. Then for some racist ass reason, they pass on Avery Johnson who I think would have also been a great fit for the team. Vinny doesn’t have the X’s and O’s to educate Rose. It seemed Rose learned more from playing with team USA this summer than he did his entire rookie season. At least Skiles will show Bj two things, how to be a professional, and how to run an offense (though he may never learn the art of the entry pass, because Skiles don’t believe in big men). vinny doesn’t offer DRose anything as far as basketball education, he just gives him minutes.

Who the hell draws up the last play for an ice cold Brad Miller off the bench, when Derrick has 17 second half points? Who…Vinny Del Negro thats who.

I hear you. It was the right basketball play he just missed badly. That’s a Brad Miller lay up. They doubled Rose. He could have forced it or pulled up. I agree Noah is all hustle & Salmons is avg at best. Deng is decent. I should say you guys have pieces to be okay in the East. It’s improved but not that strong. I don’t like a lot of these political coaches. I think Avery was the call for the CHI. They lead us to believe we cant fight the system. The system is running everything they dont care for into the ground. It’s not their sport. They could care less so long those dollars keep pouring in. You love your bulls I love my bucks. Wish you a succesful season & hopefully they sign somebody or get better each game. LINDSEY HUNTER THOUGH. He’s suprised to still be out there. He couldn’t believe he played so much yesterday. He’s a big reason we won yesterday. I think we both equally hate our coaches. Did you see how he subbed Delfino out after he was hot for commiting a dumb foul. He itches to put SUPER SON LUKE in the game. He plays like he’s a starter. I still can’t believe he said LUKE IS THE MVP OF THE SEASON THUS FAR. What is Jennings a suprise, accident, lucky, overacheiver. Please tell me Skiles with your Foster beer face. He said he rememebered being in the zone like the 55 point game. When I’m pretty young but don’t remember. Why coaches want to win their way baffles me. You win the best way possible. If the players are happy it’s a WIN WIN. All coaches go first. You see what Miami did to Beasley. They held him back & let weak/sorry fake pg and WOW I MADE A CLUTCH SHOT SO I’M 1ST ROUND MATERIAL CHALMERS GO. The Heat should have & still should sign & start A.I. or even Skip. It’s sad watching Lebron & Wade play by themselves. Let alone BORINGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG

    @eyes,

Round here me and my boys call Skiles Robo-cop. He looks exactly like him with his hairline, plus he’s an ass who sticks to what he thinks is going to work no matter how many times he fails…like a robot.

LMAO@ Lindsy Hunter last night. I was happy for him though. The guy almost touched the rim when he went for that block. He tried to do the MJ on the Wiz vs Ron Mercer block. It just didnt happen like he planned. I do think Lindsy could make a good coach someday as long as he works under some great coaches first. He has a very good basketball mind and I love what he does for DRose’s development. It’s not talked about enough.

Luke Ridinour is the reason we didn’t get blown the F-out in that game. every time Bogut started to assert himself, Luke would jack up a terrible shot or pass the ball to someone on the other side of the court away from Bogut. BJ looked very pissed off too. It did seem like he was holding back, he never once isolated DRose and tried to take him one-on-one. DRose started to do that in the 2nd half. I was hoping for an old-school Isiah Thomas vs Magic/Tim Hardaway vs KJ/Marbury vs Iverson shoot out between the two. Or at least just making plays against each other. But that will come in due time.

    DERRICK ROSE ALL DAY!
BRANDON JENNINGS PLAYED WELL IN 55-point GAMES BUT AFTER THAT HE DID NOTHING.

DERRICK ROSE > BRANDON JENNINGS (I DONT THINK SO HE IS SOOO GOOD, HE IS JUST GOOD =D )

Ya’ll are stupid. I have to use that one. What about when Lindsey drove the length of the court on jennings wth the floater. He caught a flashback. I also agree with the coaching and having a vet around for Rose. What did JJ do to not play. I hate his damn part & haircut. You had to see the game where Luke looked BJ off like let me shine young’n. I wanted a little duel myself. D.Rose took it to him for like a 3 min stretch. I got worried. I was just waiting for a come fly with me moment(G.Oden) Why did he do that to him light with the double knee brace.

I cant wait till they both have coaches who understand the new aged game & players. Also a legit supporting cast who goes in. What about the stinky leg he gave to Charlie Bell on the triple slo mo cross. He moved Jennings twist a few times. He’s way to unselfish to. Nice guys I tell you. The Gift & the Curse. You sometimes wish they’d be mad the whole game and just punish people. Me and my ball crew still talk about the skills challenge when he threw down that pump reverse dunk. You don’t do stuff like that w/o trying. He’s a FREAK OF NATURE. I’m jealous of the ChI man & some of the other cities. You guys are consistently pumping pro’s and college players that live up to the hype. Keep it up man love the basketball swag & knowledge of the game. I could tell you love it like me. I can’t wait for the Rookie Sophmore Game. It is going to be a classic to remember for. I hope D.Rose and Jennings get the All Star nod this yr. We need these two to step up and help rescue this game of ours. I’m suprised Skiles doesn’t wear dark glasses on the bench sometimes. He looks like George from Seinfield too. But RoboCop is hilarious.

  50. Chicagorilla says:

    @eyes,

You’re right. That rookie/soph game is going to be off the chain. Blake should be back by then. Blake vs Bees, Mayo and Gordon vs Harden and Tyreke, Rose and Westbrook vs Jennings and Collison, B.Lopez, Love and Oden vs Thabeet, Ibaka, Hansbrough. I think the sophs will win, but it will be exciting.

  51. L.A. WILSON says:

I actually have both of these point guards on Live 2010 (PS3). I have Rose starting but they play almost equal time per game mainly because B Jennings is consistent. His quickness is scary, passing on point, and his jump shot off screens is a game changer. Offensively, Jennings matches up well against any point guard in the league; however, when he faces big guards, their strength can overpower him. I say if he bulks up a bit more next year, he can be a better player than Rose. I do like Rose running the team, decent basketball IQ, good passer, excellent handles, and can get into the lane for a layup or to bring a double towards him which allows a shooter room to perform. Both have excellent on the ball defense because every game they get at least two steals. This is almost like choosing apples or oranges because they are both young and still emerging. Neither is a three point threat which will both open up their potential immensely. –L.Dubb

“Neither is a three point threat which will both open up their potential immensely.”

Isn’t Jennings shooting like 45% from 3pt this season. You must be getting your info from NBA live… watch a real game. Niether of them have “excellent” defense either. They are avg right now with Jennings being a tad better on-ball. But they both have low awareness when it comes to dealing with screens on defense.

I got rooks in that game especially if blake is back healthy. I can’t see the soph’s matching up with Takeover,TY Evans & Lawson,Flynn,Chase,Blake. You’re going to see a side of Brandon you wasn’t so sure of. I guarantee he has at least 15 assist. Also dealing with screens has a lot to do with help side communication & rotation. At least for Jennings he tries to figure it out because he knows he could stay in front. Once he’s locked off there’s no help. If no screen comes they both give good effort. TEAM DEFENSE allows you to gamble, send to weak side & strong side. If Kobe & D.Howard played together with Battier they’d be a #1 Defensive team. The Bucks have no shot blocker & the Bulls are missing Tyrus. Warrick for Tyrus what you think???? I hope you guys get Boozer or Amare. I want James White & anybody that at least tries to block & rebound. You could have luke ridnour for lindsey hunter or Pargo. I want JJ to. Jennings doesn’t miss wide open threes. Rose reminds me of Wade in a lot of ways. Bullies.

  54. Chicagorilla says:

    @eyes

I saw Jennings in Milwaukee for the McD’s all-american game, I know how he plays when he wants an assist record. He was, as The Real Tyrone would say it…”dishin those dopey dimes”… which I find funny seeing as how Mil drafted him.

No way I personally would trade Tyrus for Warrick, but i’d give you Tyrus and Noah for Bogut. I do agree that having a shot blocker behind you helps with the gambling on defense. Tyrus cleans up a lot of mistakes when he’s on the floor…key words…WHEN HE’s ON THE FLOOR. Vinny kept him under 30min a game in the playoffs and most of last season.
