Converse “Heaven Is A Playground” Event In NYC

Last night, Kellan White and I hit up the “Heaven is a Playground” Converse event that took place inside a small art gallery in Manhattan’s Lower East Side. This tiny and narrow space was packed wall to wall with media, shoe connoisseurs and playground legends, who were all there to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the novel Barack Obama called his favorite basketball book of all time, Heaven is a Playground.
Although the president wasn’t in attendance, a lot of the playground legends featured in the book were there and so was Aaron Owens aka AO from And-1. Bobbito Garcia hosted the shindig, while DJ Rich Medina spun ’70s tunes like the Bee Jee’s “Staying Alive.” The walls were filled with blown-up pictures and pages of the influential book.

Great Book, pretty good movie too. Just read this on IMB though…lol:
“‘Michael Jordan’ was originally supposed to play the role that Bo Kimble went on to take. In the fall of 1998, the filmmakers went to courts with a breach-of-contract lawsuit against Jordan seeking at least $16 million in damages, citing the lack of Jordan as the cause of the film’s box-office flop and the derailment of director Randall Fried, who in the words of their attorney, “should have been and would have been the next Steven Spielberg” if the film had been successful. Jordan countersued. The jury founded Jordan not liable and awarded him $50,000 in favor of his countersuit”

The movie was HORRIBLE! I saw the movie before I read the book. When I read the book, I realized how HORRIBLE the movie was.
