Daily Fantasy Diagnosis: 12.11

Deron Williams (photo. Christian Kozowyck)
Beast of the Night: Deron Williams dissected Orlando’s defense and notched 32 points, 8 rebounds, 15 assists, 1 steal and just 1 turnover. He hit 2 threes, shot 50 percent (9-18) from the field and 80 percent (12-15) from the free throw line. Williams’ free throw percentage (74 percent) has kept him from the top-15 value that many thought he would have on draft day but you won’t hear his owners complaining about that.
Noteworthy Lines:
Carmelo Anthony – 16-28 FG (57%), 6-7 FT (86%), 2 3ptm, 40 Pts, 6 Reb, 2 Ast, 1 Stl, 1 Blk, 2 TO; Believe it or not, that’s “only” his fourth game scoring 40+ points so far this season. He doesn’t look like he’ll lose his top-10 value anytime soon.
Ben Wallace – 2-7 FG (29%), 3-6 FT (50%), 7 Pts, 16 Reb, 3 Ast, 3 Stl, 1 Blk; Big Ben’s been a bountiful boon of blocking and burgling this basketball… season. (Almost.) In other words, he’s been a great surprise for owners who can stomach his glaring flaws.
Charlie Villanueva – 10-19 FG (53%), 6-7 FT (86%), 1 3ptm, 27 Pts, 5 Reb, 5 Ast, 1 Blk, 1 TO; He’s been slightly disappointing so far but this was his best overall line of the season. With Tayshaun Prince and Richard Hamilton nearing their returns, Villanueva’s value could be stifled a bit down the line.
Rajon Rondo – 10-20 FG (50%), 1-1 FT (100%), 21 Pts, 3 Reb, 11 Ast, 1 Blk, 1 TO; His free-throw shooting remains atrocious and though he doesn’t score much or hit threes, Rondo’s assists and steals are where his sweet spots are.
Kevin Garnett – 8-14 FG (57%), 1-2 FT (50%), 17 Pts, 5 Reb, 2 Ast, 2 Stl, 1 Blk, 2 TO; He’s returned to earth but he finally broke an eight-game blockless streak.
Gilbert Arenas – 11-23 FG (48%), 1-6 FT (17%), 2 3ptm, 25 Pts, 3 Reb, 8 Ast, 4 TO; Inconsistency has been the theme of Arenas’ comeback season but so long as he stays healthy, his owners have little reason to complain.
Vince Carter – 9-23 FG (39%), 11-12 FT (92%), 5 3ptm, 34 Pts, 6 Reb, 3 Ast; He was a beast on offense last night and remains a very helpful fantasy player. Carter’s held most of his stats steady from last season but is handing out fewer assists and shooting poorly from the field.
Waiver Wire Appeal:
Jonas Jerebko – 12 Pts, 1 3ptm, 8 Reb, 1 Stl, 2 TO; When he gets enough minutes, the kid can put up helpful fantasy numbers.
Tony Allen – 8 Pts, 3 Reb, 2 Stl, 3 TO; He’s not quite in game shape yet, but with Marquis Daniels sidelined for at least six weeks, Allen could become a relevant fantasy player in deep leagues.
Andray Blatche – 17 Pts, 1 3ptm, 3 Reb, 3 Ast, 5 Stl, 1 TO; As expected, Antawn Jamison’s return crushed his value but he’s still usable in deeper leagues.
Matt Barnes – 17 Pts, 1 3ptm, 5 Reb, 2 Ast, 1 TO; His constant hustle leads to nice stats every now and then.
Ryan Anderson – 16 Pts, 4 3ptm, 5 Reb, 2 ASt, 1 Stl, 3 TO; He was committing arson in the first half last night but was quiet after halftime.
C.J. Miles – 22 Pts, 3 3ptm, 2 Ast, 1 Stl, 2 TO; He’s playing very well off a short Jazz bench and is a great source of threes. Miles should at least be considered in most leagues.
Injuries:
Joe Smith (thumb): out tonight
Quentin Richardson (hamstring): didn’t practice Thursday, questionable tonight
Jermaine O’Neal (personal): unlikely tonight
Andrea Bargnani (ankle): monitor his status
Jose Calderon (hip): ditto
For Tonight:
See if Brandon Rush can assert himself with Danny Granger out.
Game Three of the “Allen Iverson Experiment” in Philly continues tonight as they host the Rockets. Expect Aaron Brooks to have a nice game.
For Next Week:
4 games: CHA, CLE, DAL, DEN, DET, HOU, IND, LAC, LAL, MEM, MIN, NJ, NO, NY, OKC, ORL, PHI, POR, SAC, TOR, UTA, WAS
3 games: ATL, BOS, CHI, GS, MIA, MIL, PHO, SA

will says:
hey Doc,
I’m trying to swing a trade for Baron Davis.
I would have to give up Deng + Iverson.
You think its a good idea?
Thanks
Will

The Fantasy Doctor says:
@will: If you can pull that off, definitely. That’s a steal for you if you have the depth to cover for the two-for-one swap.

Jay says:
Hey Doc,
I traded away Stephen Jackson and Jarret Jack for Vince Carter and Kirk Hinrich, what do you think about that trade?
Also, I’m trying to trade Ariza for a solid PG since I’m weak in the position, who should i be targeting? I offered Ariza for Jennings but I’m not sure the owner is going to bite, if not, who should I target?

The Fantasy Doctor says:
@Jay: I like the Carter deal for you. Nice work.
Jennings is definitely a fair target. If that doesn’t work, look to deal for Billups, Baron Davis or Ellis.

nick says:
doc, i’m getting fed up with millsap, should i drop him and try and pick up someone else or hold onto him considering boozers injury history?
December 11th, 2009 at 6:17 pm
The Fantasy Doctor says:
@nick: He’s still worth a roster spot in most leagues, but if there’s a solid player sitting on the waiver wire in your league, feel free to make the swap.
Like you mentioned, Millsap will be huge if Boozer ever gets injured, but if you really need a more useful player on your roster it’s probably wise not to wait on that occurrence.
