Nate Robinson Docked $25K For A Trade Demand He Didn’t Even Make

Nate Robinson

Four months after Stephen Jackson was fined $25,000 by the NBA for requesting a trade publicly, Nate Robinson was given the same penalty today. Only in Robinson’s case, he didn’t even say it. His Seattle-based agent, Aaron Goodwin, had told reporters that he asked the Knicks to move Robinson – who hasn’t played in 12 consecutive games.

“I want to do what I can to get Nate out of New York,” Goodwin told the New York Times. “There’s no reason to allow this kid’s career to get rotted by what’s going on here in New York.”

League rules forbid players from making public trade demands. Robinson, who has been surprisingly positive through his whole benching, has repeatedly told reporters that he wants to stay in New York and has been one of the team’s biggest cheerleaders.

Jackson’s trade demand was different because he kind of blindsided the whole Warriors organization when he stated his desire to get out of Golden State. Plus, Jackson did it in a league-sponsored public event. Speculation that Robinson’s agent wants Nate out of New York is hardly news, since that has been known for weeks now.

Is it unfair for Robinson to be fined for something his agent said?

hell yea thats messed up he got fined for that. I didn’t realize he hasn’t played in 12 straight games thats crazy. He better get out of there before he gets MarBURY’ED all year

  • iannyb

Thats just sad for nate to be treated like that. Now the league chimes in.Why don’t they ask New York to trade him.Instead they wanna fine him.Double standards f this league

  • i am a witness

WOW!!!!!!!!!!! if i was nate i would sue the fuckin NBA…….. HOW in the blue fuck can they fine him for a trade demand (one that he didnt make himself)……. and wasnt it KOBE BRYANT that made a fuckin public trade demand a few years ago on the STEPHEN a SMITH SHOW before he got a PAU GASOL donation……….. what da fuck why wasnt he fined!! DAVID STERN needs to get his SHIT together!!!!!!

  • Spliff 2 My Lou

This fine is unwarranted. I’m sure Aaron Goodwin will be picking up the tab on this one.

  • SayItAintSo

That is legitimatelly weak and borederline illegal.

His agent expressed a desire to move him to a situation where he’ll see the hardwood…and he is fined for publicly requesting a trade?

David “The Man” Stern better stop sticking it to everyone and trying to make the NBA this ultra-professional arena. The league needs to watch their fine-happy ways or they could end up in court, and win or lose, that won’t go over well for the pristine image that goodie good Stern is trying to portray.

  • BxBaller

This is wack. Nate is doing all the right things in this situation, keeping his mouth shut, cheering his team on and he still gets punished. Come on son, they need to trade homie for real. FREE NATE.

  • Michorizo

Little guys are so E-Z to pick on…

  • Coop

If this is accurate then David Stern has turned his concentration camp up a notch. Mind you, that’s only one notch of 1453 but still

  • shakazulu12

Damn, so are they going to retroactively fine the dozens of other players that have made trade demands publicly the past few years? Why did Nate get fined for this one?

  • The other Aj

If NY Knicks keep doing this crap…No one is going to come there in the offseason

  • MBE18

@10, it’s not the Knicks, it’s the NBA

  • http://heckler@aol.com Heckler

this is the nba sending a message to players: keep ya punk ass agents in check.

  • Lakerz_FO_Life

if i was nate i would fire my agent and other players should learn from nate cuz he didnt say S*** and still got fined and he hasnt been b*tchin bout not playin. thats pretty f’d up tho. i think Obama should do somethin bout these NBA rules

  • http://www.petsocietyhelp.com Pet Society Help

Would’ve been so much easier if he just didn’t decide to take that practice shot on the opposing basket with .5 seconds left in the quarter. Press on that was prob the icing on the cake.

  • http://nba.com oz

What the hell? Has Nate rally been benched for the past 12 games?!?! What is the world coming to?!?!?! Seriously….WTF????@?@?@?!?!?!

  • hahns

this is retarded. not only did nate not make such a demand, the league has an interest in having him play! nate is a fan favorite- hes good for the league!! its the same thing w/ chad ochocinco in the nfl- why do they keep punishing players that provide good publicity!?!?

  • That’s what’s up

knicks are 7-4 in their last 11 games without nate (including losing 2 straight to Miami and S.A.)

so they were 7-2 with knucklehead nate on the bench

    that’s no coincidence

  • Itsakademiks

I don’t see how ppl r campaigning for son….the stats say ny is a better team with him on the bench…….men lie women lie numbers don’t……

  • AdvancedMind

    LOL @ the Knicks
This is a horrible organization, for what ever reason they think that just because there the Knicks, player will go out of there way to play there. Come on, Nate is not even stepping on the court, but Jared “FUCKING” Jefferies is playing minutes like hes actually supose to even be in the league. There only half way decent on ball defender in “Larry Hugues” cant start over Jefferies.
Mike D is a horrible coach, this team shot 40 something threes in a game, thats terrible. He is everything that is wrong with basketball these days, him and Don Nelson should go coach overseas, and take A.I with them to go lead the Greece Jagaloo’s team to a chip.

  • hwm3

Since his agent is basically his employee the league is fining the employer for having a moron employee.

  • KnicksFan84

Listen folks, as a Knick fan and Nate fan, his benching was well earned but not because of anything personal but his play wasn’t up to snuff. Granted he got hurt early on but when he came back, Douglas was outplaying him overall. Duhon may suck but his b-ball mentality brings better balance to the floor than Nate’s. Nate is not a PG, but a hybrid more SG than PG. We already have that with size in Larry Hughes who actually plays defense so because of that, ultimately he sits outside the rotation.

The Knicks would trade him if his contract was easy to move and get value back. He’ll have a shot if someone gets hurt etc. Really, it all comes down to if he plays defense and makes teammates around him better, then he can play all the minutes he wants, otherwise, yeah I wouldn’t play him.

  • RA

Free Nate. Mark my words no serious free agent will consider the knicks if they want to win a championship. His style produce points, not defense and not championships. If so he had the most talented players and couldn’t get pass the lakers. If i was LJ, DWade, JJohnson and my main from toronto I would join the New Team in Brooklyn, the Russian and Jay Z and create a new tradition.

  • JBaller

Players shouldn’t have any say in how much they play, that’s the coach’s job. No player should be able to bitch his way on to the court or out of town. That’s why there are contracts – once signed players should have to honor them and doi whatever the team says.

That said, the Knicks look more and more like assholes the way that they treat their players and it seems pretty stupid when they’re trying to interest free agents this year.

  • JBaller

The fine is BS for so many reasons; I hope the NBA has to take it back.

LMAO@ Diantoni. Seriously, chris duhon and tony douglas won’t even been in the league in 4 years (duhon maybe less). Nate can ball, and that whack ass system actually fits him perfectly, hence the 17ppg last season. Diantoni is doing this cause he didn’t want Nate in the first place (had Nate traded on draft night from PHX).

Hopefully nate learns from Starbury and Iverson’s situations. Either learn how to play REAL ball and be a value on the FA market (look at the intrest that CJ Watson got ove all those guys) thats not looking for a max payday but a good long term deal.
Or end up eating vasoline with your shirt off hugging your boy while singing kirk franklin songs and crying on eachothers shoulder, cutting off hair only to grow it back, then bounce from team to team like a college buss-down at a frat party.

If Nate’s agent went public without Nate’s consent, he should be fired. Period. If Nate’s agent went public WITH Nate’s consent, he should be fired for being stupid enough to make his client look bad.

Nate’s career is at a crossroad. He got ZERO offers in the off season. He got a 1-year offer from New York – a team that was a laughingstock last year. People say trade him, but where? For what? Who’s giving up ANYTHING for a defensive liability (he’s the shortest guy in the league) who happens to be a ‘problem employee’?

Nate needs an agent. The cat he’s got representing him is short sited, and will cost Nate money – or worse – result in him playing overseas.

  • jay-r chan

ya’ll right about nate robinson, he needs to get out of the nyk organiztaion. better solution……join jay-z’s team next year. mike d’antoni sucks. if nate does this kind of movement in his career, this might get d’antoni fired from nyk.

  • KP

And his first game back he drops 41!!! See what happens when you cage somebody up! You let him out and he gets buck!! Can’t bench him now cause coach will get fired.
