Pops Mensah-Bonsu Could Be The NBA’s Best Shot Blocker

With no disrespect to Josh Smith, Pops Mensah-Bonsu could be the NBA’s best shot blocker. While it’s tough to crack the leader board averaging 7.3 minutes per game, Pops has been killing it the past four games – including two blocks in two minutes against the Hawks, and another two against the Rockets (the team that dropped him after four games earlier this season). Now I’m not saying that Mensah-Bonsu is an All-Star, but in his biggest appearance of the year (24 minutes in a preseason game against his current squad), he did log five blocks to go along with 17 points and seven boards. Check out the following two videos – blocks of Joel Anthony & David Andersen – and tell me that he shouldn’t play.

Dream Team 2010: LeBron, Bosh and T-Mac in New York

LeBron James

If you haven’t heard, everybody in the NBA is in a contract year. With my job, it’s been reflected in the large percentage of interviews I’ve done lately that include a question or two about free agency and that particular player’s mindset approaching this season’s open audition. In fact, I just got off the phone a couple minutes ago with a small forward who will be one of 2010′s most sought-after players, and he told me this:

“A lot of guys try to pick their game up in a contract year, but that’s not me. This is where I want to be. I want to be known as one of the best players in the League. A contract year or anything like that has nothing to do with it. I play the game because I want to be respected.” Read More »

Texts From Last Night? Soon Hall Of Fame Votes Too

Basketball Hall of Fame

If fans could vote in Tracy McGrady as a starter in this upcoming All-Star Game in Dallas, then why can’t they get him into the Hall of Fame as well? Former Suns owner and current USA Basketball Director Jerry Colangelo has recently been named the Hall’s newly elected chairman of the board. His first order of business is to involve fans and media in the voting process for Hall of Fame selections. Read More »

MVPuppets: Mystery of the Missing VII, Part 2

On Monday, I posted the latest video from the legendary MVPuppets, the “Mystery of the Missing VII.” After LeBron‘s Air Max LeBron VIIs went missing, the detective was on the case. But if it wasn’t Kobe, and it wasn’t Lil’ Dez, then who could it be? Watch and find out…

Darko Milicic: “I Don’t Give a Bleep About the Money”

Darko Milicic

The Knicks’ Darko Milicic has told the New York Post that he is going back to Europe at the end of this season no matter what. I guess DNP’s in 15 out of the last 16 games will do that to a guy who was once the No. 2 overall pick in the NBA Draft. Plus, the Knicks signed The Ghost of Jonathan Bender – a dude who literally hasn’t played in years (and wasn’t really very good when he was playing) and who will almost certainly get PT ahead of Darko when he’s activated on Sunday.

So Darko’s bouncing, and he’s making no bones about it. Read More »

Go To Happy Hour At Arco Arena

Beer

The Sacramento Kings’ ticket sales department are either brilliant or desperate. In an effort to boost poor attendance (the Kings’ are 29th in the league in attendance with 12,424 fans per game), the Kings debuted “Spread the Kings Cheer With Dollar Beer Night” at Arco Arena during the Kings/Wizards game last night. Kevin Durant’s KD2 Creamsicles

KD2 Creamsicles

Yesterday against the Mavs, Kevin Durant debuted the outrageous “Creamsicle” colorway of his second shoe in the KD signature line, the KD2. The flashy kicks boast an all orange upper with a hint of “Oklahoma Thunder” blue on the swoosh and forefoot strap. Nike Basketball blessed other players on the squad with the Creamsicles as well so that the Thunder could style in sync. Unfortunately it takes more than footwear solidarity to get a W, as Dallas went on to win the game. Read More »

D-Wade, Dwight and Barkley: Back Together Again

Whether eating still-breathing sushi at Yao Ming‘s taunting behest, or sharing some misinterpreted convo over a championship ring, Dwyane Wade and Charles Barkley have been one of this decade’s best athlete comedy teams.

Last year, Wade and Barkley added Dwight Howard to the mix of their popular T-Mobile ads — the one where Barkley wrecks Digi-Dwight’s leg on a video game.

The Wade-Barkley-Howard trio is back, in a series of spots for the T-Mobile myTouch 3G. The first, featuring Wade and Barkley, debuts during halftime of tonight’s Heat/Magic game on TNT. Dwight’s ad debuts on Christmas Day during the Magic/Celtics game on ABC. Our friends over at T-Mobile sent us an early copy of the first clip:

The Top 5 NBA Coaches This Season

Mike Woodson

Behind every great team is a great coach. Several coaches this year have literally turned around the fortunes of their respected franchises. While Doc Rivers and Phil Jackson are definitely putting in work, it doesn’t really come at a huge surprise that those teams are killing it. We ranked the five coaches that have gotten the most out of their players so far and have posted records that far exceeded expectations. Read More »

Breaking News: Royce White leaves college basketball

Royce White’s college basketball career has ended before it really had a chance to start. Royce White announced via YouTube, that he will be leaving the University of Minnesota and subsequently college basketball. Royce said he will not transfer because he only wanted to represent his home state and play for Coach Tubby Smith. Royce White was a top 20 recruit from Minneapolis and along with Rodney Williams and Justin Cobbs, was part of the highest rated recruiting class in Minnesota Golden Gopher basketball history.
