Whenever somebody asks me how I became a Georgetown Hoyas fan growing up in Seattle, I give them one of three reasons:
1. When I was a kid, U-Dub barely had a basketball team as far as I knew.
2. I didn’t realize G’town wasn’t an HBCU until I was like 12 years old.
3. Joey Brown.
Who is Joey Brown? He was a 5-10 point guard and four-year starter for the Hoyas in the early-’90s. Imagine Earl Watson without the height and you get the picture. Read More »
This week is Jimmy V week on ESPN which means they will show clips of Jimmy Valvano’s 1993 ESPY speech. I realized today that I had never seen this speech in its entirety. 16 years later I finally saw the speech that launched the Jimmy V Foundation and it is as inspiring as ESPN promotes it to be.
All due respect to Ray Allen and Jimmy Chitwood and THIS KID, but a Mavs/Suns game gives us an opportunity to watch probably the two best shooters in the planet: Dirk Nowitzki and Steve Nash. Ever since Michael Jordan called out Bryon Russell in his Hall of Fame speech over the summer, B-Russ has been challenging the greatest basketball player of all-time to a game of one-on-one. Utah Flash (of the D-League) owner Brandt Anderson has gone through great lengths to promote the possible game and even offered to put up $100,000 to the winner’s preferred charity. This over-hyped, one-on-one talk got even more ridiculous last night when 7,000 anxious Flash fans were duped into thinking MJ was showing up during the Flash/Dakota Wizards game to play Russell.
