Back in Dime #48, I featured Harvard University standout Jeremy Lin. A couple of nights ago, the Crimson’s 6-3 senior point guard went into UConn’s gym and got 30 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals and 2 blocks against the 13th-ranked Huskies. UConn ended up winning the game 79-73 over Harvard, but Lin once again proved he could hold his own against the nation’s best. Read More »
Beast of the Night:Chauncey Billups rained on someone’s parade in Philly last night, putting up 31 points, 8 rebounds, 8 assists, 1 steal and 2 turnovers. He hit 4 threes, shot 53 percent (8-15) from the floor and 100 percent (11-11) from the free throw line. Billups clearly wasn’t fazed by the frenzy last night and is on a nice streak. He remains one of the best fantasy point guards out there. Read More »
When the Jazz were in New York a month ago, I asked Deron Williams why he doesn’t show off his underrated hops more. He responded, “Eh, I don’t need to. When I need to, then I try.” I guess last night was one of those times he felt he needed to as he exploded for this impressive jam against the Spurs.
30. New Jersey Nets (1-19) — Brook Lopez is going to be this season’s Al Jefferson. His numbers should be enough to be an All-Star (18.9 ppg, 9 rpg), but his team’s record will ultimately keep him on the outside looking in.
29. Philadelphia 76ers (5-16) — The delirium of Allen Iverson’s return took about 40 minutes of game time to go back to the depression of a now 10-game losing streak. Read More »
The December 7th matchup between the Denver Nuggets and the Philadelphia 76ers was not just a typical early season interconference matchup. A crowd of 20,664 descended upon the Wachovia Center on a night when the game took a back seat to something special. The game itself was more than a game, it was an event complete with commenrative t-shirts, balloons and local radio DJs. The event was bigger than basketball, it was a homecoming celebration for the city’s fallen hero Allen Iverson. Read More »
A couple months ago, before the D-League season began, I told you that the Maine Red Claws were my new favorite team. With their roster finally built out, and the season underway, I can fully stand behind that statement. Check out their new intro video…
Somebody forgot to tell the Nuggets they were supposed to play the role of the Washington Generals. On a night where the return of Allen Iverson to Philly was supposed to be the feel-good story, it was as if the Nuggets gave the Sixers three quarters to have their “Welcome Home” party before calling the cops and shutting sh*t down. Going on a 22-3 run that turned a game-long deficit into a double-digit lead in the fourth, Chauncey (31 pts, 8 rebs, 8 asts), J.R. Smith and Ty Lawson reminded the Sixers that A.I. alone isn’t enough to fix the backcourt and sent Philly to its 10th straight loss … Read More »
You guys might have noticed that I was absent from the site today, but that’s only because I was flying across the country to Los Angeles for this week’s Nike Zoom Kobe V Global Media Introduction. Along with journalists from around the world, tomorrow I’ll get to see the Zoom Kobe V up close and personal for the first time – and if you haven’t checked it out already, you don’t know what you’re missing. This has been around for a minute, but was circulating through the office today. I’m pretty sure Zach Galifianakis actually worked with Kanye on it. Hilarious.
