The Knicks play in one of the biggest cities in the world, in the most famous arena. And as of now, the Knicks have a better record than the Nets and even beat them yesterday 106-97. But for some of the biggest names in this summer’s highly-touted free agent class like LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh – the Nets might be the better short-term and long-term option. Almost like it was scripted by our friends at Nike, just as the Kobe and LeBron “MVPuppet” ads begin to resurface, the brand’s two showcase guys are on hot streaks and look like they could be headed for an NBA Finals matchup … The Lakers won their ninth straight on Sunday, 20-piecing the Suns behind Kobe’s 26 points and an overall dominant performance on both ends of the floor. It’s this simple: PHX doesn’t have a single defender who can really give Kobe trouble (although Grant Hill tries) while L.A. has enough horses to withstand the Suns’ speed and are significantly taller and more talented in the post … Read More »
What do you even say if you’re part of Greg Oden‘s inner circle? After a collision with all 78 pounds of Aaron Brooks in the first quarter of last night’s Blazers/Rockets game, Oden went down clutching his leg, and from a distance it looked like somebody had punched a hole in his right knee. The scene just happened to play out in front of the Portland fans who are already terrified every time Oden so much as grimaces, and some time after G.O. was taken off the court, the reports started to circulate during the game: Fractured kneecap, likely out for the season … Really, what can you say? If Oden’s season really is finished, that means he will have played in 81 regular season games and six playoff games in the three full seasons since he was drafted. Patrick O’Bryant gets more burn than that … Read More »
Kobe Bryant vs. Dwyane Wade is the NBA’s answer to Peyton Manning vs. Tom Brady. While not necessarily a matchup of the two best players in the sport (that’s where LeBron comes into the argument), rather Kobe and D-Wade represent #1 and #1A in terms of who you’d want with the ball in their hands when everything is on the line in crunch time. What stood out from last night’s clash of the titans was D-Wade uncharacteristically choking at the free throw line at the worst time, and Kobe nailing a game-winner that — as far as the quality of the shot — was probably the worst dagger he’s ever attempted … Read More »
Working at Dime Magazine, a ton of headlines, news and opinions pass through our website each week. Everyday a new story breaks and we change our focus to the next game on the schedule. As the week wraps up I took the time to reflect on what the NBA taught me over the last 7 days. Read More »
In an article on SI.com, David Stern told a reporter that he thinks it’s possible that a woman will play in the NBA within the next 10 years. Sports Illustrated asked the commissioner whether we might see a woman playing NBA basketball within the next decade. “I think we might,” said Stern. “I don’t want to get into all kinds of arguments with players and coaches about the likelihood. But I really think it’s a good possibility.” Read More »
If you have tickets to the Bucks/Pistons game tonight at The Palace of Auburn Hills, you won’t be seeing Milwaukee head coach Scott Skiles roaming the sidelines. After not leaving the court in a timely manner following his ejection Wednesday night during the Bucks’ 104-102 loss to the Wizards, it was announced today by Stu Jackson, NBA Executive Vice President Basketball Operations, that Skiles has been suspended for tonight’s game without pay. While I have no clue what language they’re speaking, you can catch a glimpse of Skiles attempting to stay on the court for the final 29.7 seconds.
