The Big Three. Or Six. Or Eight…

Kevin Garnett

When Kevin Garnett was traded to the Celtics, we all imagined the hypothetical Finals series between Boston and San Antonio and would it would mean for the legacies of KG and Tim Duncan. Two of the game’s five greatest power forwards came up in the same era, but because KG’s supporting cast was consistently so much worse than Duncan’s, we never got a real look at what would happen if they met on a really big stage. And even after KG got to Boston, those big-time matchups never seemed to materialize due to injuries and what-not. Last night we finally got to see what a Celtics/Spurs NBA Finals might feel like — and neither KG or TD was even the best power forward on the court … Read More »

Tyreke Evans’ Crossover Makes Darren Collison Fall Down

Just saw this on YouTube and was surprised it only got 150 or so hits. Here Tyreke Evans uses the behind-the-back wrap around dribble to make fellow rookie Darren Collison fall on his ass last Sunday. You would think guarding CP every day in practice would prepare Collison for such a move, but obviously it didn’t.

Will the next Tyreke Evans please report to Indiana?

Tyreke Evans

Whether you believe Tyreke Evans is a true point guard or not (he’s not), last night was a textbook example of exactly why Sacramento drafted him to play the point.

On his way to dropping 26 points in a win over the Pacers, Tyreke scored the Kings’ first 10 points, and it was obvious the game plan going in was to get Tyreke off early. He used his height to shoot over T.J. Ford and Earl Watson; his strength and handle to easily drive past them; and his length to catch the ball near the rim on cuts and post-ups and get easy buckets. It is Official: Kobe Bryant is the Best Player in the NBA

Kobe Bryant

The debate can end, we can put away the puppets, it is official: Kobe Bryant is the best player in the NBA and it isn’t even close. Sporting News released their top 50 current NBA players, Kobe sat on top of the list earning 62 first place votes (LeBron James earned 34 and Dwyane Wade earned 11). The list was compiled from the votes of 107 basketball experts including 28 hall of famers. The voters were swayed by Kobe maturation into his leadership role, at least according to Magic Johnson. Ben Wallace Is Concerned About Ron Artest’s Drinking

Ben Wallace

Yesterday we posted about how Ron Artest gave the Sporting News probably the interview of the year by discussing his drinking habits as a Bull, his party days at St. John’s and his desire to fight Ben Wallace again. As we all know, the fight between Wallace and Artest is what started the infamous 2004 brawl at the Palace of Auburn Hills. Read More »

Nets Watch 2009: The Basketball Gods Will Be Kinder To The Nets Next Week

Devin Harris

After losing to the Mavs last night, the Nets achieved the inevitable by starting the season 0-18, which is now the worst start in NBA history. Bottom line, the Nets are a bad team. But at the same time, they were dealt a bad hand this last week with tough schedule. In their past five games, all the teams the Nets played against all had winning records and four of those matches were road games. Things get a whole lot better for New Jersey this upcoming week as all five of their next games are against sub .500 teams. Read More »

Nic Wise Is The Best Pure Point Guard in the Pac-10

Nic Wise

With a 74-72 double overtime loss to UNLV last night – setting its record at 3-3 – it’s an understatement to say that Arizona is not run by flash and big names this year. With Lute Olson thrice removed and the Encinitas Enigma, (coined by yours truly; shirt orders to my Twitter…) Chase Budinger, and Jordan “Coach’s Decision” Hill both gone to the pros, the ‘Cats aren’t the national draw they once were. Add into the mix a Pac-10 conference that is seeing its lowest production in years and an influx of untested youth, and you have a recipe for bland, mistake-riddled basketball. In a region dominated largely by guard play, most of the attention has surrounded Cal’s Jerome Randle and Washington’s Isaiah Thomas – and deservedly so.

Someone forgot to relay the message to ‘Zona’s Nic Wise. Read More »

Reggie Miller: “The Garden’s Greatest Villain”

Winning Time

“It’s a fun one. That’s all I have to say.”

This is what award-winning filmmaker Dan Klores said right before the screening of his upcoming film, “Winning Time: Reggie Miller vs. The New York Knicks,” Monday night at the 57 Screening Room in Manhattan. Part of ESPN’s 30 for 30 documentary series, the film explores how Reggie Miller proudly built his legend as “The Garden’s Greatest Villain,” in a battle of teams and cultures as big as Sodom and Gomorrah. Daily Fantasy Diagnosis: 12.3

Jason Kidd

Beast of the Night: Jason Kidd was a maestro once again, orchestrating a line to the tune of 16 points, 2 threes, 8 boards, 10 assists, 5 steals, 1 block and 4 turnovers. He shot 83 percent (5-6) from the floor and 100 percent (4-4) from the line. He could be finding his groove, but it’s unlikely that he’ll keep this kind of production up on a consistent basis. Regardless, Kidd remains one of the best fantasy point guards in the land. Read More »
