Tyrus Thomas Could Be A Knick

With Stephen Jackson getting traded and Carlos Boozer being a model citizen in Utah, trade talk has been kind of slow the past few weeks. Last night, Yahoo! Sports‘ Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the Knicks may be interested in acquiring Bulls forward Tyrus Thomas. Apparently, the Knicks would offer Al Harrington in return.
Coach D’Antoni would welcome Thomas’ athleticism and ability to rebound and block shots. With the emergence of Danilo Gallinari, Harrington’s services may not be needed as much. The kicker in this deal is definitely Thomas’ contract – he is owed $6 million next season. As we all know, the Knicks are trying to clear room for the big summer of 2010, so trading for Thomas contradicts that strategy.
Wojnarowski is also reporting that Andre Miller, Elton Brand and any Laker that’s not in the starting five and not named Lamar Odom, are also on the trading block.

Trade rumor for the Knicks?! The Knicks are so pathetic doing transactions right now, they would trade for a 5th draft pick for a 7th draft pick at the drop of a hat…

Dan Dickau says:
Zoo York could use a guy like Thomas. His athleticism is something that would compliment LeBron very well (if that’s what they’re thinking) Plus six million isn’t really that bad when you get a player like that. Put it this way, the Knicks only have at most 5 guys coming back next year guaranteed, so they need to get players sooner or later. They can’t just sign everyone in the off-season, especially not if they’re handing out two max contracts over the summer.

‘Coach D’Antoni would welcome Thomas’ athleticism and ability to rebound and block shots’
Yeah, cos thats the ONE thing the Knicks are missing to make a playoff run…..
Coach D’Antoni would welcome just about anything right now. Shot jackers, Someone to stand under the basket and get dunked on, a point guard who isn’t on the ‘naughty step’, stephon marbury, a brain tumor…. i could go on.
All of these things would be more encouraging than the current knicks squad.

Sure they can have Tyrus if they give us their #1 pick… oh wait Utah already has that. In that case, Go F^k yourself NY. No one on your roster is worth anything, especially Al Harington… On any real team in the L that wins, he’s a bench player that may score 12ppg in about 25min a game. they guy is useless on defense and would not help out the Bulls situation at all. Why does all the trades involving the knicks seem so one-sided and always helping NY and not the other team. What’s next?
“Knicks are reportedly in talks with the Nuggets to get Carmelo Anthony for Jared Jefferies. This would give Ny the peices needed to attract LBJ in 10′ and would allow Denver to clear up some cap-space to go after Carlos boozer this summer.”

is anyone capable of making a serious comment about the Knicks? All I see is mindless, childish, uninformed trash talk from you commenters. Also, this doesn’t contradict the 2010 salary cap plan because Thomas is an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season. If they don’t want to keep Thomas, they can simply not make him and offer or match any offers for him. In the meantime, the Knicks get an athletic guy who fits D’Antoni’s pace better than Harrington, and won’t hog the ball like Harrington, thereby freeing up shots for Gallinari–who has indeed emerged as a viable scorer when given shot opportunities, despite the mocking of one of the childish commenters above.

@11
The Bulls run a half court offensive set, “Real Offense” not run around and jack shots until you score 20. So Harrington is worthless to the Bulls. Hes an undersized PF or a extra slow SF who doesnt play Defense. In any system where you run a half court offense “like the Bulls” Harrington is MAYBE 13 a game, while letting the oposing PF/SF average around 20 a game. Thomas is a pretty good help defender, wich with how terrible the on ball defense is for the Kincks im sure Thomas would have a shot blocking field day every night. At the end of the day Thomas helps the Bulls win games, if the Knicks had Thomas they would still suck. Terrible pointless trade.

I can see the bulls thinking, tryin to get a few more points, but tyrus is much better on defense even its all weak side help. I say keep tyrus, let him earn his next contract and trade him when his trade value goes up. Or let him walk n use the money later.
Go bulls.

with the emergence of gallinari?
you cannot be serious. all that italian bum does is stand outside and chuck up 30footers. why is he even in the league?
the knicks would do better if they fired the coach and hired lawrence frank
December 4th, 2009 at 2:21 pm
paul says:
Heckler–I guess the fact that he hits many of those 30 footers means nothing, huh? More mindless chatter. The truth is that with his size and natural shooting ability, Gallinari is a potential star. Also, he’s already looking more confident on the court, and has shown an ability to get to the line at a good rate as well, and looks to have some decent instincts out there. Only people who aren’t paying attention are saying that he is a one dimensional player.
December 4th, 2009 at 2:37 pm
Heckler says:
paul–
danilo rooster cock gallinari is ONE dimensional. just as a jump shooter. the bum cant even dribble with his left hand. and sheeeeit, if you give any player a green light to keep shooting 3s, they’ll make a lot too. even eddy fat ass curry hit a game-winning 3ptr for NY before.
gallinari AINT no potential star. come off that bullshit they feeding you.
looking confident? are you fucking kidding us? he looks more awkward than chris dudley.
he is 6′9 and cant rebound. has weak defense. has NO post game or any back-to-the-basket presence.
like i said, one dimensional player.
only people who are reading box scores and game recaps think he has star potential.
check mate.
PS
come correct Paul if you ever wanna challenge me on nba or bball. dont ever call me out and back it up with a weak ass post like #18. let me know you know your shit. stand strong. come hard. make me respect you and your posts.
a 1st round knockout of you is too easy and aint no fun for me. bring the HEAT bitch!
December 4th, 2009 at 3:10 pm
paul says:
Heckler–it wasn’t a weak post. You were doing exactly what I said–mindlessly bashing Gallinari because he is a Knick, and they are the whipping boys for the herd of shallow people like yourself. But anyway, I’m not the only one saying he has star potential. That being said, you say he’s just a jump shooter–even if thats true, you can actually be a star in the NBA as a jump shooting specialist given you have some other good players around you. Ray Allen is a pretty good example of that. But really, you can’t be taken seriously because you are apparently comparing the guy to Chris Dudley. i’ll bet you probably haven’t seen more than 5 minutes of a Knick game this season, because otherwise you wouldn’t be talking such nonsense
December 4th, 2009 at 3:24 pm
Heckler says:
wow pauly–
you learned nothing and your last post was even weaker. if i bash, its worthy. not mindless. and gallo is def worthy of bashing and anyone (like you) who is fooled into believing he will be a star deserves bashing too.
and how dare you compare him to ray allen?!!? are you serious? ray allen is NOT just a jump shooter. ray ray can flat out ball. danilo aint shit and is only in the league due to nepitism—even you cant debate that.
i’ve seen plenty of knick games. i got league pass bitch. i’ll bet you havent seen 4 minutes of any game NOT featuring the knicks.
is it nonesense that gallinari is 6′10 and cant get an offensive rebound? is it nonesense that 60% of his shot attempts are 3pt attempts? dirk can shoot the 3, but he dont make it 60% of his shot selection. is it nonesense that rooster boy has no handle? is it nonesense that he averages less assists than jared jefferies?
aint nobody whipping the knicks. we all know they suck. and as long as mike d’antoni is the coach, they will forever suck.
“I’m not the only one saying he has star potential”. really. who else is saying he has star potential?..donnie walsh?…his coach? certainly none of his teammates. no other coach in the league. no other player in the league is calling him a star. so when you say your not the only one….whom else are you referring to?!!?
and yes i did compare him to chris dudley. there was never a more awkward player or site to see on an nba court than chris dudley. errrrr….that is until we all saw danilo
please do yourself a favor and stop defending this clown

paul says:
You mentioned Dirk, well here is what he said about Gallo:
“I mean, he’s got an unbelievable stroke,” Nowitzki added. “He looks like he’s comfortable with the guys, his English has gotten better, so the sky’s the limit.”
kobe Said:
“I like him a lot. He can shoot and he can handle the ball. He’s got great size. I really like him.”
Lebron said something similar, but i can’t find the quote, as well as an opposing coach or two who had good thinsg t say about him.
just sayin’

Heckler says:
hahaha.
what were you really expecting them to say?
“he sucks. he should have never come to this country to play”?
December 4th, 2009 at 4:58 pm
Paul says:
Well, those quotes have more weight than your totally unsubstantiated accusation that he was drafted out of nepotism. You have no evidence of that, and he was consistently projected as a lottery pick. So all of what you are saying is not backed up by what people in the league think about gallo
December 4th, 2009 at 5:06 pm
Paul says:
oh also Heckler, one minute ago you said it was important that other players and coaches say good things about Gallinari, and now after I posted a couple of examples of that, you laugh and say, “what did you expect them to say?”.
Way to backtrack. You’re a clown

ok gallinari is a pretty good player, he looks good too cause the rest of the team sucks and no to the gay trade Thomas has gotten each year with the Bull since the draft

2k10orBUST says:
Heckler -
You obviously have limited knowledge of how to evaluate talent in the NBA…
1st off, the stroke that Gallinari has isn’t something you can teach. He can erupt on any given night when given the opportunity. Problem is that he was only taking roughly 8-10 shots a game, and still putting up 15-17 points along with 5+ boards recently. Also Danilo isn’t soft and can has shown that he has every intention of banging down low and rebounding. Try looking at that 17 pt. 10 rebound night he had a few nights ago.
Gallo is doing much better than Dirk was in his first complete season, and even Dirk says he was impressed with him and ‘the sky is the limit’ with Gallo. Kobe, LeBron, Larry Brown and such have also praised him highly, you think they would put their word on the line? Did LB do that with Darko? Child please.
Danilo has got star potential, clearing Black Hole Harrington out of his way will get him 5 more shots a game at minimum and we’ll see his scoring average rise even more.
