You need to get some of your facts straight. First, Westbrook was at UCLA for two years, not one. Second, Westbrook WAS ready by the time he left and was all but guaranteed a lottery spot in the draft (he had a very solid rookie year). Third, according to at least Love and Farmar, they only came because of Howland. UCLA was not on the top of either list when recruiting season started. Finally, a lot of credit has to go to Howland with Westbrook, he was not recruited at all coming out of HS and was only asked to join UCLA after Howland learned Farmar was leaving.

In just a few years of coaching, Howland has already produced more NBA players (Ariza, Farmar, Afflalo, Westbrook, Love, Hollins, Mbah-a-Moute, Holliday) than either Lavin or Harrick.

Howland is to blame because he recruited that crap!!! if your style of coaching is to have big, physical bruisers down low for tough D, dont recruit a athletic post player (Drew Gordon) that is used to running the floor. If you want your PG to pound the ball the entire shot clock and then try to create as it expires, dont recruit PG's that cant handle, drive or shoot (jerime Anderson).
Howland passed on Larry Drew Jr because he didnt want to wait on him and took the Anderson kid.
There is a reason Jrue and Westbrook left early! Of course, NBA dollars was #1 but neither was ready after one year but neither one wanted to return under Howland's whack ass system. Most of Howland's top recruits came to UCLA because it was UCLA more than it was Howland selling his "program". UCLA should be fighting for the top 10 players every year but people can see that his system will only get you so far and kids want more freedom to display their talent.

in fairness, Howland did get to 2 back to back final fours but was exposed in every game they lost

Even though they weren't that good, I had UCLA in the Final Four last year to make it four years in a row. They'll be lucky to make the Big Dance!

How come there is no player comparison for James Keefe? Think Mark Madsen without the hustle.
