We Reminisce: Randolph Childress Breaks Jeff McInnis’ Ankles
With Wake Forest on TV right, I don’t know why, but it got me thinking of how good Randolph Childress was for the Demon Deacons – especially during the 1995 ACC Tournament. Named tournament MVP, Childress carried Wake to the title averaging a ridiculous 35.7 points and 7 assists per game. In the championship game against a UNC team featuring Jerry Stackhouse and Rasheed Wallace, Childress dropped 37 and 7 in addition to the game-winning jumper with 4 seconds left in overtime, but it was this crossover on Jeff McInnis that will go down as one of the all-time greats.

Randolph was so nice. Shame his career wound up like it did. Josh will never be the player older bro was.

Yeah, I still get hyped when I see this clip. Not just because it was a tough move, but because he’s family! Handle your business, cuz.

@hahns
i wonder the same thing. my guess is its because he was a combo guard and was undersized. he prob did alright in europe though.

So what if he was a combo guard! He was Jason Terry/Eddie House before the small scorer-playmakers of today. At Wake, he honestly looked like the 2nd coming of Isaiah Thonams! I’m sure he could’ve latched on in the NBA if not for…
PJ Carlessimo.
That coach seems to kill careers and never gets the most of his players. No question about his Xs and Os, but at this level you gotta be a player’s coach, too, or you’ll get strangled by guys like Latrell Sprewell.
Oh wait, that did happen.

aw man, that game was just down right nasty. I remember going to the park and trying to copy the move by crossing and waving at people to get up. Never quite had the effect that Childress had though.

HAHA…Jeff got shook, but who’s the one who had a better career in the pros? Guess Jeff is the one who’s really laughing….at Randolph’s career. He didn’t even make it in the Association. ha
