Daily Fantasy Diagnosis: 1.13

Beast of the Night: Baron Davis had himself a triple-double to the tune of 27 points, 12 rebounds, 12 assists, 5 steals, 1 block and 2 turnovers. He hit a three and shot 52 percent (11-21) from the field and 100 percent (4-4) from the line in a weird game in Memphis that included a 20-minute evacuation of the arena in the third quarter. Davis is having a fine season and should have no problem remaining a top-30 fantasy player if he can stay healthy.

Noteworthy Lines:
Randy Foye – 8-15 FG (53%), 2-3 FT (67%), 2 3ptm, 20 Pts, 5 Reb, 10 Ast, 1 Stl, 1 Blk, 2 TO; He’s proving to be the biggest beneficiary of Gilbert Arenas’ demise and is rewarding savvy owners who picked him up last week.

Trevor Ariza – 7-16 FG (44%), 3-6 FT (50%), 2 3ptm, 19 Pts, 6 Reb, 4 Ast, 2 Stl, 4 TO; It’s been tough owning Ariza after such a hot start to the season. He’s struggling with his shooting and is putting up mildly enticing lines. With trade rumors involving big-name swingmen around the league heading to Houston, Ariza could have a low ceiling placed above him very soon.

Stephen Jackson – 15-22 FG (68%), 10-11 FT (91%), 3 3ptm, 43 Pts, 8 Reb, 3 Ast, 3 Stl, 2 TO; This was a monstrous line from Captain Jack, who has done a great job stepping into a major role in Charlotte.

Boris Diaw – 8-13 FG (62%), 2-3 FT (67%), 1 3ptm, 19 Pts, 7 Reb, 6 Ast, 1 Stl, 3 Blk, 4 TO; Diaw’s recent resurgence is probably the reason for a lot of recent cussing from owners who understandably dropped him about a week ago. He’s hit at least one three-pointer in three straight games and has handed out six assists in five straight.

Marc Gasol- 10-14 FG (71%), 4-6 FT (67%), 24 Pts, 15 Reb, 2 Ast, 2 Stl, 2 Blk, 2 TO; This broke a three-game slump for Gasol, who is making his case for sleeper-of-the-year honors.

Andrew Bynum – 11-23 FG (48%), 1-1 FT (100%), 23 Pts, 8 Reb, 2 Ast, 2 Blk, 1 TO; Bynum is enjoying himself with Pau Gasol out but will be bumped down again once the Spaniard returns.

Tim Duncan – 12-19 FG (63%), 1-4 FT (25%), 25 Pts, 13 Reb, 4 Ast, 2 Stl, 4 Blk, 2 TO; Timmy’s having himself an awesome season and has held onto top-10 value so far. His owners should still look to sell high on him in the coming months, but they should enjoy the ride while it lasts.

Dwight Howard – 9-15 FG (60%), 12-17 FT (71%), 30 Pts, 16 Reb, 5 Ast, 3 Stl, 3 Blk, 3 TO; He’s usually not this dynamic but Howard was great last night.

Omri Casspi – 5-13 FG (39%), 1 3ptm, 11 Pts, 11 Reb, 5 Ast, 1 Stl, 2 TO; This was another fine line from Casspi, who should be sold high immediately.

Waiver Wire Appeal:
DeAndre Jordan – 23 Pts, 7 Reb, 3 Blk, 1 TO; He started last night for the Clippers and should continue to start for the at least another week.

Jonas Jerebko – 13 Pts, 1 3ptm, 7 Reb, 1 Ast, 1 Blk, 1 TO; The kid is starting again and so long as he does, he’ll do well.

Kyle Lowry – 9 Pts, 1 3ptm, 7 Reb, 5 Ast, 1 TO; He continues to put up nice all-around numbers off the bench in Houston.

George Hill – 13 Pts, 1 3ptm, 4 Reb, 6 Ast, 2 Stl, 1 TO; That’s his second straight game with double-figure scoring, and his fourth straight with at least one three-pointer made.

J.J. Redick – 8 Pts, 3 Reb, 3 Ast, 1 TO; So long as Vince Carter is out, Redick should have opportunities to shine. He started and played 38 minutes last night.

Mickael Pietrus – 18 Pts, 1 3ptm, 10 Reb, 2 Ast, 1 Stl, 1 Blk; It looks like someone wants his starting job back.

Injuries:
Kobe Bryant (back): says he’s probably going to play tonight

Rasheed Wallace (foot): out at least a week

Tim Thomas (Achilles): questionable tonight

Erick Dampier (knee): fluid in left knee makes him questionable tonight

Josh Howard (thigh): could return tonight

Ty Lawson (ankle): questionable tonight

Chris Kaman (back): doubtful tonight, MRI scheduled on Thursday

Pau Gasol (hamstring): could return Friday

Dwyane Wade (wrist): status will be determined after shootaround

Vince Carter (shoulder): probably out tonight

Allen Iverson (knee): game-time decision (get used to this)

Rudy Fernandez (back): questionable tonight

Kevin Martin (wrist): could return Friday

Ron Artest (finger, plantar fasciitis): questionable tonight

Marcus Camby (stomach virus): monitor his status

For Tonight:
See if Danilo Gallinari can bounce back in Philly tonight after getting blanked in his last outing.

The Lakers are hurting, which could mean that Lamar Odom and Bynum will pick up the load against the Mavs tonight.

  1. Youngwood says:

Hi doc ! You don’t think Casspi will maintain any value at all once Martin comes back ?
I have a pretty strong team and someone just dropped him in my league .he is listed as a g/pf .I was thinking of letting go Mike Dunleavy for him .what do u think ?

DeAndre Jordan is also intriguing .with Griffin back soon but Camby and Kaman banged up should I take my chances ?

  2. mules says:

doc, I need help with rebounds and steals…anyone you can think of that I can target with Anthony Morrow in a trade?

  3. The Fantasy Doctor says:

@Youngwood: Casspi will still have some value once Martin returns, but not nearly as much as he has now. I’d rather have Dunleavy long-term, Jordan short-term.

  4. The Fantasy Doctor says:

@mules: You’re not going to get much of anything with just Morrow. Package him in a deal.

  5. b says:

No love for Scola’s 18-14-4 last night? guess the ones listed are a lil more dynamic

who’s better long term scola or kenyon martin?

also, is there an end in sight for rashard lewis’ season-long funk?

    thanks

  6. The Fantasy Doctor says:

@b: He was right on the cusp – had to cut the list somewhere, unfortunately.

Long-term, Martin’s going to get you better all-around stats, but Scola’s more durable.

I’m one who thinks that Lewis will get things going eventually, but I can’t be sure when it’ll happen.

  7. Timeout says:

Doc, what do you think of Diaw? He’s so inconsistent and was terrible in december but if he keeps up his current stats now, how many days should i wait before i should consider placing him back on my lineup

  8. Mike says:

Hey Doc Hedo AND Marion were dropped in my league are any of them worth picking up here’s my team
PG Steve Nash (Pho – PG)
SG Jason Richardson (Pho – SG,SF)
G Deron Williams (Uta – PG)
SF Josh Smith (Atl – SF,PF)
PF Pau Gasol (LAL – PF,C) INJ
    F David Lee (NY – PF,C)
    C Andrew Bogut (Mil – C)
    C Channing Frye (Pho – PF,C)
Util Samuel Dalembert (Phi – C)
Util Randy Foye (Was – PG,SG)
BN Eric Gordon (LAC – SG)
BN Brook Lopez (NJ – PF,C)

  9. ashley says:

who would you drop for diaw. Dunleavy, flynn or yi..??

  10. The Fantasy Doctor says:

@Timeout: If you have dead weight at the end of your roster, do it now.

  11. The Fantasy Doctor says:

@Mike: Your team looks pretty solid. I’d stay put.

  12. hoopinc10 says:

    I just traded MY:
    Deron Williams
    Yi Jianlian
    Omri Casspi
    Shawn Marion

    FOR:
    Antwan Jamison
    Jermaine O’Neal
    Ryan Gomes
    Jamal Crawford

    Did I win or lose?

  13. The Fantasy Doctor says:

    @ashley: Flynn.

  14. The Fantasy Doctor says:

@hoopinc10: Assuming you have decent talent at the PG spot to make up for Williams’ absence, this deal is decent, though you probably lost a bit.

  15. SWAT says:

wht do u think of granger and martin…are they worth giving up top talent to get them? like rose, pierce, horford, jason terry, amare, ariza, jr smith…which 2 or 3 of these wld u move to get them?

  16. hoopinc10 says:

yea i have russell westbrook…..he’s almost up there with williams

  17. Nick says:

    Hi once again Doc,

This deal is completely lopsided in my favor, correct?

    Recieve

    Durant
    Casspi
    Pierce

    Deal

    Aldridge
    Jefferson
    Z. Randolph

    1. I’d be trading Z. Randolph as a keeper, and turning around and selling Casspi very high.
    2. If I needed to make the money work, would you add the selling of Salmons for nothing in return?
    3. What could I get for Casspi at the moment? If I sold him, say, by this Sunday or Monday.

  18. Duck says:

    TPark or VCart?
    and Young or Diaw?

    Just need an opinion.
    Thanks.

  19. The Fantasy Doctor says:

@SWAT: Both are worthy targets, but they’re also health risks. Don’t give up too much for either of them. J.R. Smith, Ariza, Rose and Terry are all worth trading away for either Granger or Martin.

  20. The Fantasy Doctor says:

@Nick: I’d need to know which Jefferson you’re talking about.

Kevin Martin might return Friday, so selling Casspi after that might not get you much at all. Keep that in mind.

I’d try to get something in return for Salmons.

  21. The Fantasy Doctor says:

    @Duck: VC. Diaw.

  22. Nick says:

My apologies. R. Jeff. And Casspi is out of the deal.

Durant + Pierce for Randolph + Aldridge good, but if necessary, is Jefferson added to them for a low end player worth it?

  23. Duck says:

    Barnes or Diaw?
Diaw’s stats don’t seem at all consistent.

  24. The Fantasy Doctor says:

@Nick: I think you’re losing a bit on that deal, but if you can add Jefferson for another solid player, that might make it worth your while.

  25. The Fantasy Doctor says:

@Duck: Long-term, I’d go with Diaw. His minutes are more secure, though yes, Barnes might be steadier at the moment, but Diaw’s picking up major steam.

  26. @ says:

    Hey Doc,

Alright, so I’m dropping Blake Griffin. Here are some of the available players in my league.

    Marvin Williams
    Udrih
    Francisco Garcia
    Grant Hill
    Mike Conley
    Jarrett Jack
    Ridnour

Who should I pick up? Or are there any “up and comers” worth gambling on right now?
