The Other O’Neal Who Will Help His Team In The Playoffs

Jermaine O'Neal

The fans in Oakland must be getting restless lately. Every time that it looks as if Donnie Nelson has his boys playing better basketball (consecutive wins against Phoenix and Boston in late December), an injury – or angry teammate for that matter – halts the train. Most recently, Anthony Randolph’s severe ankle problems have forced the young forward to miss upwards of two months. So, expectedly, the main draw at Oracle is usually the opposing team. Read More »

Defining Dirk Nowitzki’s place in Dallas history

Dirk Nowitzki

Clearly, the Dallas Mavericks don’t measure up to the Celtics or Sixers in terms of NBA tradition. So that’s why, in contrast to earlier discussions about Paul Pierce and Allen Iverson, I’m going in a different direction with this one.

Last night, Dirk Nowitzki dropped a baseline jumper in the third quarter of Mavs/Lakers to crack the 20,000-point mark for his career. The moment was significant enough that it almost eclipsed the fact that Dallas eventually lost the game; Dirk even (maybe) got a haircut in preparation for the special day. Read More »

Monta Ellis Has Pulled Off The Trick Shot Of The Year

Almost a year ago, LeBron James swished in an underhanded 70-footer on the TV program 60 Minutes. Even though this insane behind-the-head from the tunnel trick shot by Monta Ellis wasn’t on any national TV show, it is so far the best non-game trick shot of the ’09-10 season so far. Read More »

John Lucas: The Cavs Tanked The ’02-03 Season To Score LeBron

LeBron James

In the 2002-03 season, the Cleveland Cavaliers started Darius Miles 62 times and Milt Palacio 46 times. Now we know why. Former Cavs coach John Lucas told Fanhouse that he believes management tried to throw the ’02-03 season in order to land possibly the most hyped NBA draft pick of all time, LeBron James. Read More »

Dwyane Wade: The New Mike

Dwyane Wade

On the basketball court and in the corporate arena, Dwyane Wade’s potential appears limitless. As the perennial MVP candidate and newest Air Jordan pitchman confronts off-court distractions and constant speculation about his future, he’s not close to giving up his spot on the medal stand as one of the undisputed top three players in the game.

Earlier this season, Wade posed for the cover of Dime #54 (on newsstands now) and sat down to interview for this story. Read More »

Daily Fantasy Diagnosis: 1.14

Aaron Brooks

Beast of the Night: Aaron Brooks exploded for 43 points, 3 rebounds, 5 assists, 1 steal and 1 turnover, while chipping in 6 threes, shooting 47 percent (14-30) from the field and 75 percent (9-12) from the line. True, he was helped by an insane triple-overtime match, but Brooks has been having himself a nice 2010 so far. It’s still likely that he’ll hit a rough patch in the near future, but it’s clear that the little man won’t be flying under any radars next season. Read More »

Tony Allen Shows Off Some Serious Hangtime

Tony Allen might be one of the most underrated dunkers in the league. He doesn’t show off his hops as much nowadays, but when he first entered the league in ’04, he wasn’t scared to do a little showboating and do contest-style dunks during games. In his first or second season in the NBA, Allen bounced the ball to himself on a fast break and windmilled it. Here he displays some ridiculous hang time in this one-handed alley-oop off of a Paul Pierce pass against the horrible Nets.

Kobe Bryant’s Mounting Injuries Raising Red Flags

Kobe Bryant (photo. Chris Sembrot)

Whether you love Kobe Bryant or hate him, one thing nobody can question about him is his heart. Dude wants to win so bad, he’d attempt to play with a broken leg if he had to. But sometimes you wonder, how much is enough for Kobe? He reached his limit a couple of night’s ago against the Spurs, when back spasms proved to be too painful for the 31-year-old superstar. He missed the entire fourth quarter and the Lakers ended up losing 105-85 (their fourth straight road loss). His back problems are just one of the half-dozen injuries he has dealt with in recent weeks. Read More »

How Blake Griffin could have avoided the Clippers Curse

Blake Griffin

I don’t believe in curses. If I did, I wouldn’t have allowed myself to become a Cleveland Browns fan in the ’80s — and then again in the ’90s. I wouldn’t have been surprised when Aaron Boone hit that home run in ’03. And I wouldn’t have looked into a bathroom mirror and said “Candyman” five times. (OK, I didn’t really do the last one. Tony Todd still scares me to this day.)

Point is, I don’t believe there’s a curse on the L.A. Clippers. Read More »

Fantasy Analysis: The Blake Griffin Grift

Blake Griffin

By now most of us have heard about Blake Griffin’s season-ending knee surgery that will knock him out of action for four to six months. It’s a frustrating situation that has to have many patient fantasy owners cussing at their computer screens, and rightfully so. Not only was he an extremely promising rookie for the Clippers and the NBA, but Griffin had a real shot at averaging some nice fantasy stats. He was also set to return in about two weeks.
