In no space since Mark Few has taken Gonzaga from the hidden depths of the mid-major circuit, up to arguably the Nation’s finest small program, has his Bulldogs’ team faced such a rebuilding battle.
With a Sweet Sixteen appearance and another plus-25 win season a year ago now behind them, Gonzaga wasn’t even ranked coming into this season. Jeremy Pargo, Micah Downs, Josh Heytvelt and Austin Daye had all departed from Spokane and a new wave of potential Gonzaga greats were ready to rise from the wings. Read More »
You hear people always say that NBA players are the best athletes in the world. While that claim is certainly debatable, you can’t argue with the fact that the NBA does have some pretty ridiculous athletes. The game has evolved so much in the past couple of decades and it seems like players keep getting faster, stronger and are jumping higher. Their athleticism has gotten so out of hand that an off-the-bounce, between-the-legs cram in a dunk contest is now the equivalent as a double-pump jam. Read More »
After 30-something games of tinkering with rotations, dealing with injuries and middling through their typical slow start, we got the feeling last night was the real beginning of this season for the Spurs. In handing the visiting Lakers a 20-piecing that admittedly gets an asterisk because Pau Gasol (hamstring) was sidelined and Kobe (back) sat out the fourth quarter, San Antone nonetheless showed a consistent level of energy and execution they’ve been looking for all year. This dunk wasn’t on the same level as Travis Leslie over DeMarcus Cousins, but it was still a very impressive play for 6-5 Arkansas-Pine Bluff guard Tavaris Washington – who decided to jump OVER Alabama State’s Menji Mundadi for the dunk.
A couple years back, I was interviewing somebody on the AND 1 Mix Tape Tour — I seriously can’t remember who — and asked for some crazy “life on the road” stories. The player told me about one hotel the team had used in a South American country (Argentina?) that everybody thought was haunted: furniture moving by itself, strange sounds in the hallway, super-creepy front desk guy, etc.
Apparently the pro playground ballers got a taste of life in the NBA that night. According to the New York Daily News and Yahoo!’s Ball Don’t Lie, the New York Knicks believe the hotel they stayed in during a road trip to Oklahoma City was haunted. Read More »
In the first half, Heinsohn pointed out that whoever Crawford was guarding was attacking the basket at will. “Well, they should,” Gorman quipped. In the second half, Heinsohn said, “[Crawford] couldn’t guard anything if you gave him a rifle and put him outside Buckingham Palace.” Read More »
With everything that’s going on with the Wizards from the losing to the Gilbert Arenas situation, we’re guessing a lot of that roster is wishing they were playing some place else right about now. If rumors turn out to be reality, then Caron Butler might get that chance. ESPN.com is reporting that the Rockets are interested in trading Tracy McGrady and his expiring contract to the Wizards for Butler and possibly a Randy Foye or Mike Miller. Read More »
Is it just us, or has nothing good come out of Twitter for NBA players? Several guys like Amar’e Stoudemire, Tyson Chandler and Brandon Jennings have been fined for tweeting during work hours (i.e. games). Other players like Nate Robinson, Charlie Villanueva and Gilbert Arenas have had their tweets used against them by the team or the media. Now, a mini-fued between Jennings and Jordan Farmar has originated and escalated on the world’s most popular social networking site. Read More »
