It says here that we’re supposed to be objective when covering the NBA. But honestly? Last night the Dime crew was collectively pulling for Dwyane Wade‘s team to win. Knowing we’d be dropping Dime #54 this week, having our cover guy notch a big win over the Celtics would be a nice treat for everybody involved.
But in reality, the way Heat/Celtics played out was probably more fitting considering D-Wade’s story. Pouring in a season-high 44 points, along with seven assists and three steals, there wasn’t much more Wade could have done for his team. Read More »
Back in the offseason, I wrote the post: Memphis or OKC: Who’s Better? As of now, you’d have to give the nod to the Thunder, who are 19-16 (who are also tied for the fifth most road wins in the NBA) and are in the eighth spot in the Western Conference. But as nice as Oklahoma City has been this season, the Grizzlies are honestly not that far behind. Read More »
As I was waiting in the Oakland airport last week for my baggage to arrive post vacation bliss, I saw a familiar figure dressed in USA Olympic elite garb leaning against the wall. It was Corey Maggette.
For someone with such a talkative and boisterous persona as he embodies on the court, in this situation, he was just another mellow traveling passerby. Quiet and reserved, Maggette dropped the superstar attitude and flew in off of a Southwest general admittance line fresh from a mini vacation of his own. Read More »
The Gilbert Arenas storyline has had more twists and turns than the plot of “The Usual Suspects.” In today’s Washington Post, some new and disturbing details emerged about the other man involved in this whole fiasco, Javaris Crittenton. According to the report, Crittenton may not be as innocent as he has claimed. He allegedly responded to Arenas’ actions of laying out four guns on a chair with a note attached by brandishing his own loaded gun. Read More »
So I guess I’m supposed to have something serious to say about this Gilbert Arenas thing, right? Black athlete gets in trouble, powerful White man pounds the gavel and takes money out of Black athlete’s pocket, Black sportswriters instinctively begin to crank out … something … because whether it’s the Thunderbird-fueled wino on the bus or it’s some other clown, what one of us does in front of White folks reflects on all of us. And given the players in this particular drama, there must be a racial seed at the root that needs to be addressed. Read More »
At least that’s who the Wizards must have felt like they were playing. As the Gilbert Arenas saga finally reached some kind of conclusion, there was no more ironic opponent for Washington last night than the Cavs. You could tell the Cleveland announcers didn’t want to get too soapbox-ish when they know Delonte West could see a similar (or worse) punishment when his legal situation irons out, and the Cavs players were said to “wholeheartedly concur” with David Stern‘s decision on Arenas; a smart move if you want to stay on Stern’s good side before he decides on Delonte … As for the game, the Wizards were done before tip-off.
