NBA Rumor: Gilbert Arenas Won’t Play Again This Season (UPDATED)

Gilbert Arenas

We knew that the NBA was going to be tough on Gilbert Arenas, and that a suspension for the rest of the year was a very real possibility. And now it looks like that may very well be the case.

It broke earlier today that Gil was in New York to meet with David Stern and now Yahoo! Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski just tweeted this: Read More »

Derrick Rose vs. Tyreke Evans Headlines 2010 Rookie Challenge

Derrick Rose

Earlier today, the NBA released the list of 18 players selected for the 2010 Rookie Challenge during All-Star Weekend – headlined by reigning Rookie of the Year Derrick Rose and superstar freshmen Tyreke Evans, Brandon Jennings and Omri Casspi. The Sophomores have won seven in a row over the first-year players, but the rookies may have the firepower with a talented crop of young guards. Will this be the year the Rookies break through? I don’t think so. Read More »

Help Give Big Baby A New Nickname

Glen "Big Baby" Davis

Note: Comment now, because we are going to name a winner tomorrow morning…

Sometimes people just outgrow their nicknames. Just look at Diddy and Mark Wahlberg. Glen Davis, who is known to the world as “Big Baby”, no longer wants to be called by his nickname. Before last night’s game against the Clippers, Davis told reporters that he wants people to see him in a new and more mature light. Read More »

Stephen Curry

Beast of the Night: Stephen Curry blasted the Kings with 27 points, 9 rebounds, 6 assists, 3 steals, 1 turnover and 3 threes. West Virginia is a national title threat thanks to Kevin Jones

West Virginia's Kevin Jones

In a season where college basketball is without one dominant team, the national championship race is truly wide-open. Last night, #1 Kentucky dropped its first game at unranked South Carolina, becoming the last undefeated team to get familiar with the loss column.

West Virginia has just as good a chance as anybody at taking the whole thing. The 9th-ranked Mountaineers (16-3, 5-2 Big East) have a senior leader in SG/SF Da’Sean Butler who is also their best player, an athletic NBA wing prospect in Devin Ebanks, an explosive point guard in Darryl “Truck” Bryant, a good outside shooter in Wellington Smith, a future Hall of Fame coach in Bob Huggins, an underdog mentality since they’re not Kentucky or Kansas, and an entire legion of hungry wild dogs on the defensive end. Ex-Girlfriend Puts Greg Oden On Blast On The Internet

Greg Oden

As if Greg Oden wasn’t having a bad enough season. On top of suffering a season-ending injury on Dec. 5, the Blazers’ big man is currently dealing with a very public and embarrassing situation. Nude pictures of the 21-year-old have surfaced on the Internet yesterday. They were supposedly taken by Oden a year-and-a-half ago from his cell phone camera and was sent to his ex-girlfriend. Oden confirmed he was the one in those pictures (as if someone could mistake Oden for someone else) and has apologized for his poor judgement. Read More »

Al Jefferson Addresses Trade Rumors And The Alleged Tension With Kevin Love

Al Jefferson

Right before the start of the season, I interviewed Wolves forward Al Jefferson for a big feature that ended up running in Dime #53. At the time, Big Al was still at home in Mississippi and was extremely optimistic about the season. He was telling me about how he thought this could be the year he makes his first All-Star team. Jefferson also thought that Minnesota could be a surprise team, much like the ’08-09 Blazers team. Read More »

The Hornets May Have Won The Battle, But Lost The War

Chris Paul

I’m not saying anything profound by declaring that the NBA is a business. Dollars and cents clearly take precedence over loyalty and feelings. But while this harsh reality may often come as a surprise to devoted season ticket holders, the bottom line is the bottom line. There’s a reason teams fire coaches and let the GM take a seat on the bench. Perhaps it’s not the correct basketball move, but the Band-Aid is much cheaper than the surgery. Read More »

Cardiac Kids

Dirk Nowitzki

The thematic stat you’re going to hear whenever the Mavericks get into another close game is that, dating back to last season, the Mavs are 10-0 in their last 10 games that were decided by one point. The Mavs are also 3-0 this season in games decided by two points, including last November when Dirk Nowitzki hit a game-winner in Milwaukee. Last night the Mavs hosted the Bucks, and again it went down to the wire … Read More »
