The Secrets Behind One of the Best Basketball Commercials of All-Time

On Friday afternoon Sports Business guru Darren Rovell posted an article on on his CNBC.com column about how McDonald’s has reportedly shot a TV spot with LeBron James and Dwight Howard that recreates the famous MJ/Larry Bird “Nothin’ But Net” commercial from 17 years ago.

Rovell got up with Jim Ferguson, one of the ad execs who came up with the idea for original spot, for the story of how the commercial shoot went down: Read More »

Daily Fantasy Diagnosis: 1.25 (Weekend Wrap-Up)

Dwyane Wade

Weekend Wonder: Dwyane Wade had himself a dandy weekend, averaging 29.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 9 assists, 0.5 steals, 1.5 blocks, 1.5 turnovers and 2 threes in two games. His rebounding has dropped off a bit this month, but Wade’s scoring with ease and dishing the ball just fine. Read More »

Where Are They Now: Rafael Araujo

I’ll be honest, until real recently, I just haven’t given the due credit deserved to both Andrea Bargnani and the Toronto Raptors for picking him up in 2006. After watching his 22 and eight performance last night in the Raptors’ 106-105 win against the Lakers, I guess I’ve just kind of held a blind eye to the 7-foot Italian. With both Bargnani and rook DeMar DeRozan playing well this season – and yes, I know Bargnani was putting up over fifteen a game last season – it got me thinking about just how far T-Dot has come since drafting its worst player in franchise history: Rafael Araujo. Derrick Rose Crams On Goran Dragic

In case you missed it over the weekend, watch Derrick Rose cram on Goran Dragic as the Bulls took home the 115-104 victory on Friday night. It didn’t matter who you threw at him, Rose would have thrown that down on Gheorghe Muresan.

Shannon Brown: Inside The Mind Of The Future Dunk Champ

Shannon Brown

Lets face it, the public is not exactly thrilled with this year’s dunk contest field. After LeBron declared at last year’s All Star Weekend in Phoenix that he was going to enter the 2010 contest, a lot of fans were let down when his name wasn’t announced as a participant last Monday. With Dwight Howard also MIA, this year’s field definitely lacks some star power. Read More »

Super Bowl of Crap

Wilson Chandler (photo. Matt Brown)

David Stern knew better than to seriously compete with the NFL conference championships on Sunday, putting only three games on the NBA schedule. And good thing the Vikings lost, because if Brett Favre had made the Super Bowl, the media hype over the next two weeks might lead the NBA to suspend their operation altogether until after the entire world hopped off Favre’s jock. Peyton Manning/Drew Brees — plus some Kim Kardashian sprinkled in — we can deal with; a 24-hour, 14-day Favre love fest would be too much to handle … The Mavs faced the Knicks at MSG, and, well, Dime reader JHUSTLE can explain it best: “Aight Dime the next post has gotta be how my Mavs just destroyed the Knicks by 50. FIFTY POINTS???!!! Woooooooow just burn the Garden to the ground after that one. That team should be ashamed of themselves. That’s a 2K10 score, not a real life NBA game score. SMFH.” … Read More »

Head and Shoulders

LeBron James

LeBron James and Kevin Durant didn’t go head-to-head as much as you would have liked to see during Cavs/Thunder, but they did square off on the most important play of the game — and LeBron came out on top. OKC was up one in the final seconds of the fourth when LeBron got a rebound, pushed the ball upcourt and found Boobie Gibson open for the go-ahead triple. (Can you blame Boobie for constantly walking around with a goofy smile on his face? He gets paid to do one thing — shoot the ball — while perhaps the best player in the world does the hard work to make him famous, AND Boobie gets to go home to Keyshia Cole every night. That’s not even fair to the rest of us.) Read More »

Tell ‘Em Why You Mad, Son

Kevin Garnett

Three straight L’s at home. Scalabrine calling himself a starter. Big Baby assuming the role of crowd-antagonizing Bad Guy. Yeah, it was definitely time for Kevin Garnett to get back on the court. The day after being named an All-Star starter to surprisingly little objection (so-so stats and 11 DNP’s), KG returned for Celtics/Blazers with plenty of pent-up anger to unleash … First half, Garnett (13 pts, 2 blks) was receiving an entry pass when he shoved Rudy Fernandez to the floor and got whistled for a foul. While KG was arguing with the ref, Andre Miller casually poked the ball out of his hands, so KG gave ‘Dre a forearm shot to the chest without taking his eyes off the ref or even breaking his sentence. We believe doctors call that the Bully Reflex … Read More »

NBA Players And Bill Clinton Team Up To Assist Haiti

Derrick Rose

In the wake of the earthquakes that have devastated Haiti, a lot of NBA players have stepped to the plate to help out. Samuel Dalembert, Dwyane Wade and LeBron James have all shelled out large sums of money to the relief effort. Now comes a monster effort from Bill Clinton, the Wasserman Media Group and the 47 NBA players the WMG represents. Their goal is to raise and to donate at least $500,000 the Clinton Bush Haiti Fund (CBHF). Read More »
