Tony Allen Shows Off Some Serious Hangtime
Tony Allen might be one of the most underrated dunkers in the league. He doesn’t show off his hops as much nowadays, but when he first entered the league in ’04, he wasn’t scared to do a little showboating and do contest-style dunks during games. In his first or second season in the NBA, Allen bounced the ball to himself on a fast break and windmilled it. Here he displays some ridiculous hang time in this one-handed alley-oop off of a Paul Pierce pass against the horrible Nets.
Everybody knows that LeBron James, Dwight Howard, Josh Smith and Shannon Brown are all incredible and consistent dunkers.
Who are the NBA’s most underrated dunkers? Who should compete in the dunk contest?

TA is one of the worst players in the league. He can only do this stuff against TERRIBLE defensive teams because dude dribbles like Hellen Keller. He’s been better as of late, but I’d still rather play 4 on 5 (half the time they are anyway) than play him. He’s so bad that dude from Chicago held off on getting him to give the Bulls a better shot to beat us last year…

exactly Chee! He’s too small to stop any “normal sized” 2s and can’t play point offensively, so him D’ing up the point is tough unless you want Rondo D’ing up a 2 (he can’t; Rondo’s a damn good off-the-ball defender/steals guy, but he’s not a great on-ball defender.) His shooting is worse than Rondo’s and he can’t dribble or pass either. Other than that, great player though! I’d trade him straight up for a Sonics headband and the promise he’ll never be back in Boston. He may actually be worse than Scal. ‘Nough said.

Ummmm, Tony Allen is the guy who blew out his ACL trying to dunk after the whistle. I think that alone disqualifies him from being called an awesome dunker.

I would say that he is worse than Scal. Maybe Scal is the most unathletic person in the NBA, but at least he doesn’t screw up all the time and can hit a wide open jumper.

This is similar to the dunk he tried when he blew out his knee. He went to dunk and freaked it wwaaaayyy too much and ended up jamming it into the side of the rim. I actually saw him also do the same thing against the Magic this year and he landed the same way. He woulda blown his knee out again if he had missed that dunk. This dunk was hot because he was in the air long enough to freak it and cock his arm back and all that, but if he had missed this dunk he would be dead right now lol. You would think he’d be more careful these days…

Are you guys serious? Scal is wayyyyy worse. At least Tony Allen can occasionally make plays because he moves around and cuts to the hoop. Scal does all the same things you all mentioned that Tony does, like dribble the ball off his foot, miss open shots, make bad fouls. Scal just hangs around the 3 point line and waits for the ball to come to him so he can either brick a shot or make the swing pass.

Why is PP mean mugging everyone after the play? The whole Boston team has that stupid scowl on their face whenever ANYTHING happens. Do these guys all think they are hard as fuck or something?

TA is CLEARLY a worse shooter than Rondo. Watch some games guys. Rondo’s jumper is getting better. It’s still bad (like one of the worst in the NBA level bad,) but Tony Allen isn’t exactly Kyle Korver out there. Rondo may be one of the 10 worst shooters in the NBA; TA may actually be the worst (non-centers of course.)
@SRB – Scal can at least (occasionally) make shots and has a high basketball IQ. Tony Allen has all the same flaws as Scal without anything better than Scal (except his athleticism.) TA ALWAYS makes at least one horrendous play when he’s out there. Scal only USUALLY does…
For the record, I think they’re both in the 10-20 worst players in the league, I’m just arguing who sucks more, not that either one is worth a damn.

Watched the clip a few times, kept expecting TA to get killed on the play and was surprised he didn’t. Look at PP’s face, he has that superscowl going the entire time. Shit, the still they use to thumbnail the video is PP scowling…how you going to say there ain’t no mean muggin?

Come on now, you know Boston is the team where the players yell, mean mug, cuss at other players, refs and themselves (see KG lol), crawl on all fours, pick on opposing guards, throw gang signs, act like they are a starter scoring 50 after dropping a measly three (see Eddie House), do dirty fouls and declare themselves the best even before they win the next ring (if they are all healthy lol).
I think I got it all.
I like all the craziness though, cept when Eddie House is involved and his son and cept when KG picks on poor little guards lol.

Kobe has taken stupid faces to a new level with his stupid whatever the hell you call it face that he does. Not to mention he yells at the refs almost everytime he touches the ball and it doesn’t end up in the basket…
I just think you didn’t see it because, as a fan who watches most of the games, you are getting desensitized to it all. You could probably be court side at a game, see Rondi throw a few kids into the scorer’s table, then Glenn Davis trample them, and then KG walk up and tell them to fuck off and you’d be cool w/ it because it’s just “normal” for the Celts now.

One more thing about KG now that is soooo disgusting. The guy has barely played due to injuries, yet he’s on the bench in a fucking SUIT, running his yap 48 minutes a game and at least 10 minutes before and after. It’s great that he has intensity and shit, but he crosses the line between intense and complete douche bag (like most Celts do now). Didn’t see him running his trap like that when he was being blown out in the first round of the play offs year in and year out…
