High School Basketball Dunk Of The Year Candidate

You may have never heard of Dwaun Anderson before today. Don’t worry, neither had I. But the 6-3 junior guard from Suttons Bay (MI) High School is taking over the state of Michigan. Already with scholarship offers from Utah, Central Michigan and Oakland, Anderson has also drawn interest from Michigan State, Michigan and Dayton. And if you watch the video below, you can see why.

“He does things that northern Michigan hasn’t seen,” said Suttons Bay Todd Hursey in the Detroit Free Press. “He is a two-guard, but on our team he’s got to play inside. He wasn’t shooting too well early in the year. He’s hitting a lot of midrange shots – he can elevate and shoot it over anybody – but mainly he scores down low. He has the ability to get to the rim.”

That’s an understatement. Averaging 19 points for a well-balanced team, Anderson has guided Suttons Bay to victory ever game (16 and counting) since losing opening night. Last night, he had 26 points (20 in the first half), six rebounds and four steals, surpassing the 1,000 career point mark in the process, as Suttons Bay clinched the Northwest Conference basketball title outright for the second year in a row.

“On a lot of teams, Dwaun could average over 30 points a game, but he’s sacrificed his own deal to make the team better,” said Hursey. “He’s a real unselfish kid. The kids were talking the other day that Dwaun just doesn’t act like a star. He’s a real humble kid, so we’re real proud of that.”

haha thats what that kid gets for trying to take a charge a knee right to the face! haha impressive poster by the youngster

  2. Eduardo says:

Maaaan, this is incredible. Not only the flight, cuz he jumps really far from the basket, but the balls too. Damn, that other kid will be known as ‘The Knee’ for the rest of his life…Daammnnnn!!!

  3. Name (required) says:

it didnt count tho did it

  4. Aron Phillips says:

That other kid was me back in high school.

  5. Mikey F Baby says:

ya but they called a charge so, big whoop

  6. Reno Hightower says:

    That would be a turnover.

  7. machineflesh says:

    “He’s a real unselfish kid”

No doubt. Deliberate charge for the highlight rather than step around for the easy deuce. It’s always about the team. Nothing selfish here at all.

  8. the big fundamental says:

Now Come on ref!!!!!!!! Impressive jump

  9. NiceCharge says:

Dunk was nice, but I was more impressed that kid stood there and took the charge.

  10. ShowKase says:

Daaaaaayyyyyuuummmmm! Why would you let yourself become a victim like that?

  11. IG says:

That other kid gets a free ride to Duke. You know Coach K recruits fundamental kids who take charges.

  12. E$ says:

He could have jumped right over the kid & the ref would have still called it because of the flop – 7.5

  13. RonNation says:

How are you gonna call that a flop when
HE GOT KNEED IN THE FACE

    idiot

  14. Raj S says:

Clearly an offensive foul. Most dunks are only two points, but this one might as well have been done in warm-ups.

  15. Promoman says:

Impressive dunk but he did give the defender a Tiger Knee that was Sagat approved.

  16. Keith says:

That was selfish. Ricky Davis self-rebound selfish. Shouldda just laid it up but instead he went straight at the guy and yeah he got a nice poster, but he committed a turnover. I admire the other guy being willing to take that.

Then again, maybe they were getting blown out by 50 or something, who knows? But yeah calling this the dunk of the year is like calling a Lebron warm-up alley-oop the dunk of the year. Unless it pus two points on the scoreboard it isn’t a dunk.

  17. quest??? says:

is he the only black dude on the team?

  18. Jack Shephard says:

This kid has every right to take that dunk on a team that could easily just let him take over every game. Instead Suttons Bay plays as a team and Dwaun shines when he has the chance. I’ve seen him play in person numerous times and more often than not he would make the right decision but it is expected of him to give the crowd a couple highlights a game. This game wasn’t close and as for the remarks that this wasn’t a dunk, as far as I can tell the kid was shying away before he was dunked on and the referees in Northern Michigan don’t see anything like that EVER. Any college game and that is ESPN highlight…but hey easy for everyone else to say it was a worthless turnover since they could not only make that decision in a split second but execute it as well.

  19. common sense says:

man too many haters on here.. calling the guy selfish daaammmmnnn.. bball is a fun sport and who cares if they were loosing or winning.. he had the poster there n he went for it.. man haters all around damn.. what a play even if id didnt count..

all you haters have never dunked in your life before so yall have no perception about the situation…

  20. Jason says:

You know the real unselfish play would have been to pass the ball for and open dunk/layup.

  21. sweetv0mit says:

i think the kid flopped lol

  22. Jimbo says:

    That dunk was racist.

  23. wow says:

THIS SHIT IS WACK. JUST BECAUSE SOMEONE DUNKS ON A LITTLE WHITE BOY DOESNT MAKE IT DUNK OF THE YEAR. THIS SITE NEEDS TO GO AWAY

  24. old school baller says:

He is the real deal..my son plays JV ball at his school as well as I Did, then Div. III. My left hand is blocking the camera at the end..SORRY..I’m a basketball junkie and have never seen a dunk like that for HS..the video does not do it justice..most of his amazing moves have never been caught on tape…he was dunking in Junior High…I’m glad big schools are now in the area recruiting players from across the region..ITS ABOUT TIME..oh yeah..the kid took a flop even before contact was made…wrong call of charge..(Ref was Ross..use to ref me 20 years ago..get use to “ABOVE the rim)..also the player is half Odawa (native American)/ African American, BUT 100 % BALLA !!. The school boasts the largest Native American student population in Michigan…Thet also have a STRONG football program…caoches take notice please..You go sir !!!
