Six People That You Must Follow On Twitter

Baron Davis

In the Tangled Web section of Dime #48 (April 2009), we told our readers that Twitter was going to be the next big thing. Nearly a year later, we were correct and everyone and their mothers are tweeting away on their computers and cell phones. If you need to zest up your Twitter feed (besides following the @DIMEMag crew), immediately hit the follow button on these Twitter accounts. Read More »

Daily Fantasy Diagnosis: 2.24

Kobe Bryant

Beast of the Night: Kobe Bryant wasted no time reasserting himself as a fantasy stud, finishing with 32 points, 3 threes, 7 rebounds, 6 assists, 3 steals, 2 blocks, 2 turnovers and 1 game-winner against the Grizzlies. Congratulations if you were able to somehow buy low on him. Read More »

Matt Bouldin Has Gonzaga Ready To Scare Teams Come March

Matt Bouldin (photo. Jeff Green)

With Gonzaga’s 72-54 rout of Pepperdine in Malibu this past weekend, the Bulldogs reasserted themselves after falling to unranked Loyola Marymount the game before. In fact, until the Lions were able to successfully upset the ‘Zags, their dominance has been unmatched in the West Coast Conference – including nine conference titles in a row. In what many outside of Spokane believed would be a rebuilding year – after losing Jeremy Pargo, Micah Downs, Josh Heytvelt and Austin Daye the prior season – Mark Few and Co. are right on track to make it ten straight WCC titles. The NBA’s 10 Toughest Players

Kobe Bryant, Dime #55

From the cover of Dime to the cover of GQ, Kobe Bryant has been everywhere lately. Except the basketball court. And it’s been killing him. Previously on his way to one of the most impossible Iron-Man like seasons in recent NBA history — playing through well documented injuries to his fingers, back, knees, shoulders and ankles — Kobe finally had to show human frailty and miss some games sandwiching the All-Star break, including the All-Star Game itself. (Kobe may be the only guy in the League who takes the ASG seriously.)

Last night he returned to the lineup, and in storybook fashion, dropped 32 points and the game-winner in Memphis. This entire season for Kobe has been a self-inflicted cross-examination of his toughness, but is KB24 the toughest man in the NBA? Read More »

Kobe Bryant comes back, delivers another dagger

Kobe Bryant

Don’t act surprised. While Kobe Bryant‘s first game back from an almost three-week layoff had other interesting story lines — Andrew Bynum returning to his personal Waterloo (Memphis), the Grizzlies trying to stay above .500 and in the playoff picture, the Gasol vs. Gasol matchup — in the end it was all about K.O.B.E. On his way to an efficient 32 points (13-19 FG), Kobe scored the last nine for the Lakers, including a game-tying three with just under a minute to go. After Rudy Gay responded with a J to give Memphis the lead, it came down to L.A. trailing by two with the ball and eight seconds left … Read More »

Jerry West Talked John Calipari Out Of Drafting Kobe

Jerry West

Today, ESPN Books released Roland Lazenby’s latest book, Jerry West: The Life and Legend of a Basketball Icon. While the majority of the book is about West growing up and his days as a Laker, the latter chapters revolve around West’s career as the Lakers GM. You know, the West that younger fans have experienced firsthand and have come to revere. There are great details about West as the mastermind behind assembling the early 2000’s Lakers dynasty, but this is probably the most revealing anecdote from p. 379: Read More »

Ron Artest: “Don’t get it twisted, man. This is the Mamba show.”

Always a media favorite, without a doubt, Ron Artest gives some of the best quotes in the NBA. Check out this clip from the Land O’ Lakers’ Andy Kamenetzky as Ron talks about the Grizzlies coach, Kobe “fitting back in” and USA-Canada Olympic hockey.

Providence human highlight reel Jamine Peterson

Jamine Peterson

Every college basketball season there’s That Guy. The one who pulls off a hellacious dunk that makes the rounds on highlight shows and YouTube, but more often than not, it’s the last time you ever hear from him.

Jamine Peterson was in danger of becoming That Guy. In a Feb. 2 game at Syracuse, the Providence sophomore pulled off one of the dunks of the year, going off-glass to himself for a two-hand hammer in traffic. That night, my Dad delivered the “Did you see that?” phone call, telling me “some kid from Villanova, I think” had a Tracy McGrady-style cram. Never mind the name — he couldn’t even remember the school. Read More »

Five Free Agents Who Can Help Your Team Right Now

Wally Szczerbiak

With the playoffs around the corner, and less than 30 games left in the regular season, one of the least-appreciated deadlines in the NBA is upon us. Mark it down on your calendars people, because this is Where Stephon Marbury Happens. For any player who has spent time on an NBA roster this season, they must by be waived by March 1 in order to be eligible for the playoffs with another team. That means you Big Z and Drew Gooden, so keep those negotiations moving. Read More »
