With the season already past the midway point, NBA GMs have their minds set on the NBA Playoffs. But for those teams that will be counting ping pong balls instead of playoff victories, the upcoming NBA Draft has many intriguing prospects that need to be recognized. So before March Madness takes over, Dime contributor Lucas Shapiro will be profiling players and giving them a team that would best fit their talent. Last week was Ohio State’s Evan Turner, so now we’re on to Syracuse’s Wesley Johnson. Read More »

By picking up Antawn Jamison at the trade deadline, the Cavs now have one of the most productive frontcourt trios in the NBA, with Shaq at center, Jamison at power forward, and LeBron at small forward. In fact, those three combined for 72 of Cleveland’s 95 points (75 percent) against Orlando on Sunday.
In football, they say the guys on the front line are the ones that determine championships. Basketball is a little different — especially as the game becomes more perimeter and dribble-drive oriented — but it’s no coincidence that the League’s elite teams always have an elite group of forwards and centers. After a disaster of a debut, Antawn Jamison was a lot better in Game #2 of his Cavs career. Jamison put up 19 points and 8 boards coming off the bench against Orlando, giving Rashard Lewis joystick moves in the paint and stepping out to bury jumpers in his face, but Cleveland still lost its third straight … Reminiscent of the “Kobe hates Shaq” era of annual Christmas Day games, ABC focused on the pre-game dap session to see how Shaq and Dwight Howard would interact. After a harmless fist bump, Old Superman and New Superman went to work: Read More »

It took about 22 seconds for the wounded, jaded Knicks fans at MSG to fall in love with Tracy McGrady. As soon as Knicks/Thunder tipped off and it became obvious T-Mac was the best player on the team and genuinely psyched to be in New York, the crowd was his. McGrady dropped 26 points (10-17 FG) and 5 assists in what was the most electric NY home game of the year, blowing past defenders for and-ones, hitting jumpers off-glass, and making some sick passes … With eight minutes to go in the fourth, the Knicks were down four and the crowd started chanting “We want T-Mac!” Read More »

If you were in Harlem yesterday, you would have seen the House of Hoops poppin’ like never before. At first, people were lining up for a second release of the Nike Air Foamposite One “Copper,” but the main attraction of the day was an appearance by Kevin Durant for the release of his signature Nike KD2’s. Friday was the night for some big-name players who’d been dealt at the NBA trading deadline to debut with their new teams. And none of them will have a more direct impact on the 2010 championship race than Antawn Jamison … The moment Jamison checked into Cavs/Bobcats in the first quarter, LeBron got a steal and looked off his new teammate on the break, barreling through two defenders for a statement dunk instead. (Statement: This is my show, homie.) Read More »

Earlier today, Dime posted its NBA trade deadline winners and losers. But you all know your teams better than we do. So we asked our readers to rank their own winners and losers, with the best of them listed here:
WINNERS
The Cavs are way better now that they have Jamison instead of Amar’e. Here’s why: (1) Amar’e doesnt like Shaq. (2) Amar’e wants to be the unequivocal MAN on his team. That’s not happening with the Cleveland LeBrons. Read More »

Buy Low:
Carlos Boozer can breathe a bit easier now with his immediate future secure in Utah. Boozer has been relatively quiet in his last three games and the sudden emergence of Paul Millsap hasn’t helped. But this makes it an opportune time to swoop in with a cheap offer for any of his owners who fear that Boozer’s value is quickly eroding. Read More »

Earlier this week before the Kentucky/Mississippi State game, we showed you a short clip put together by the Nike design team that produced Kentucky’s new Nike HyperElite basketball uniforms this season. Explaining every nuance and bit of inspiration that went into the creation of the Wildcats’ new look, we thought we’d come back today with a picture of the back of the jersey, just to show you how detailed it is.
