Murray State provides 2010’s first Cinderella moment
On a day where every almost game so far has gone down to the wire, Murray State provided the first moment that’s a lock for the “One Shining Moment” video. Check out the shot, and after the jump, more of our Day 1 coverage of the Big Dance…
After outplaying 4-seed Vanderbilt for most of the game, the 13-seed Racers were down by one with four seconds left. Catching the ball near the top of the key, senior forward Danero Thomas went to his right and elevated for a pull-up jumper at the buzzer. Bottoms. Bedlam. Look out for the “Danero is Money!” headlines today and tomorrow, and the “Mucho Danero” fan-made signs in the crowd when Murray State plays the Butler/UTEP winner in Round Two.
* Classic example of what happens when old people produce games for too long: St. Mary’s big man Omar Sanham’s name sounds like “Sandman,” and so for every montage of his highlights, CBS puts the “Mr. Sandman” song behind it — which was made in 1954, back when Verne Lundquist was a 14-year-old getting buckets on a peach basket. Never mind that Metallica’s “Enter Sandman” would make way more sense given Sanham’s intense style.
* Jay Bilas put Baylor sharpshooter LaceDarius Dunn in the same sentence with Larry Bird. Now, before you go and throw up your turkey sandwich, he was only saying that Dunn doesn’t get a lot of elevation on his jump shot.

The game that had me scared was Villinova. I got them going all the way to the final four but Scotty Renolds started the game slow. Had me sweating over here at work…LOL

Did anyone else notice that the clock didn’t start for almost a second after the ball was inbounded? Dude caught it, turned and dribbled before the clock started.
