Right after Kevin Durant‘s showcase of savage bucketry, it was Serge Ibaka who almost got the Thunder over the hump against the Spurs last night. Throughout the fourth quarter, Ibaka was giving Tim Duncan all kinds of problems on the defensive end: taking charges, poking the ball away, and swatting his shots. And with every big play, Ibaka (10 pts, 8 rebs, 3 blks) would pump up the crowd and had OKC’s arena on the verge of exploding. After the rookie forced Duncan (14 pts) into a big turnover in the final two minutes, one of the announcers yelled, “Get on your feet, folks! Serge Ibaka is in the building!” … Read More »

According to the poll we posted on DimeMag.com after NCAA Tournament overall No. 1 seed Kansas was knocked out by Northern Iowa over the weekend, Kentucky is the overwhelming favorite to go the rest of the way and win the national championship.
Going into the tourney, that distinction was a toss-up between a handful of high seeds. What wasn’t really up for debate was which team has been the most polarizing from a love/hate standpoint: Even taking out perennial winner Duke, it was Kentucky by a Derby mile. Read More »

Just in time for warmer temperatures, UNDRCRWN is releasing their first delivery for Spring 2010, aptly titled the “It’s Always Showtime” collection. Drawing inspiration from Cali-centric flavor, music and sports culture of the early 90s, you’d be crazy to not pick up at least one piece from the line. Read More »

The best thing about being tall, at least semi-talented, and relatively young in the NBA — well, besides the obvious — is that somebody is always willing to take a chance on you.
Exhibit A would be Darko Milicic. By almost every measure, Darko’s career has been a complete bust. He’ll never live down the fact that he was drafted ahead of Carmelo Anthony, Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade in the ’03 Draft. Read More »

“We’ve played teams like Kentucky before,” Jeff Foote said after beating Wisconsin yesterday. “We’re very experienced and very confident in ourselves.” The teams he’s referring to? Syracuse and Kansas, two No. 1 seeds heading into the tournament. In only their fourth game of the season, Cornell trailed then ninth-ranked Syracuse 42-36 at the half before losing by 15. Still, it gave Foote, Ryan Wittman and Louis Dale valuable experience for taking on more “real” teams than their Ivy League counterparts. Read More »

Since the media always bemoans athletes and coaches for not speaking their minds and then predictably turns around and kills them when they do saying something outside of the standard sports cliched responses, Mike D’Antonio will probably eventually regret shooting straight when a he found out that ex-Knick Jordan Hill was quoted as saying that D’Antoni didn’t play him because he “isn’t fond of playing rookies.”
Mike’s response couldn’t have been better: Read More »

It’s seems like any player who can still breathe gets a look from the Knicks these days. That’s why it’s no surprise that New York is apparently debating whether or not they should sign Raja Bell, who’s still recovering from left wrist surgery. After being waived by the Warriors this weekend – in favor of keeping former D-Leaguer Reggie Williams for the rest of the season – Mike D’Antoni‘s former Sun could get a late-season tryout. But if I’m Raja, I’d stay the hell away. Read More »

When you think of great poster dunkers on the Atlanta Hawks, Al Horford‘s name doesn’t normally come to mind. But even this dunk last night should have Dominique Wilkins and Josh Smith amped. Watch after the jump as Tim Duncan gets served up with a facial. Read More »

Last week, I told you about Michael Beasley‘s new job, and apparently he wasn’t half bad. Over 150 people came out to the Champs Sports at Aventura Mall in Miami last Friday, while Beasley and Mario Chalmers stayed for an hour and a half hanging with fans, signing autographs and helping people shop. Always a character, Beas kept the mic the entire time. Check out the pics below. Read More »

Some of the people who know me best claim I’m homophobic.
I’d disagree, but I see where they get that idea. I can admit, I’ve made my share of off-color jokes and offensive comments, but my stance on homosexuality has been the same for awhile: If you’re a guy who’s attracted to guys, or a girl attracted to girls, OK. Do you. Doesn’t matter to me. I can’t say I’m this completely evolved and 100 percent politically correct person, but I’d at least like to think I’ve matured since my days being in the high school football locker room and saying things high school kids say when it comes to that issue.
