This was the first-round game I wasn’t gonna miss for anything, even if I had to watch it on my little computer screen. Clemson likes to run and gun; Missouri thrives on a full-court press taught by Mike Anderson, a disciple of Nolan Richardson and “40 Minutes of Hell.” Mizzou’s J.T. Tiller is a defensive demon and one of my favorite college players, while Clemson’s Noel Johnson is the son of ex-NBA player “Cheese” Johnson, who always makes sure to call up the Dime office and update us on his kid’s progress since we did a story on Noel in 8th grade. AND Gus Johnson is on the mic? You couldn’t drag me away. Read More »
Just as millions of people have filled out their brackets for March Madness, boxing fans have already begun to debate the winner of the Floyd Mayweather vs. Shane Mosley fight set for Saturday, May 1 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. And while the NCAA Tournament lasts only a few weeks, it has taken six-time World Champion Mayweather and five-time World Champion Mosley a lifetime of dedication to finally reach what will be the biggest fight of their respective careers. Jordan Crawford just made himself a lot of money. Projected as a late first-round NBA Draft pick in 2011, the Xavier junior two-guard put on the whole f’n show today against Minnesota: dropping 28 points, five boards, five assists and handful of blocks and steals. Always known as a sick athlete who can score, Crawford showed he can shoot — he buried a dagger three with 38 seconds that put Xavier up nine — and play solid defense to go along with his scoring ability. I’d compare him to J.R. Smith without the knuckleheaded-ness. Read More »

Sixteen games down, 16 more to go for Round One. After watching 12 straight hours of basketball yesterday, it was tough to shave this list down to just 10, so don’t get mad if your school’s top guy got left off:
1. Jimmer Fredette, BYU — The New York-bred point guard who plays like a Canadian and became a star in Utah. You know how when the Suns are down late in the fourth quarter and Steve Nash decides to stop passing and start scoring? Fredette plays like that all game long. Read More »
For some reason or another, the readers on DimeMag.com think we either have an institutional bias towards Kobe Bryant or LeBron James, making note whenever they can when we “jock” either guy. But stats don’t lie, and the one I’m about to tell you is kind of eye-opening. Fair warning: Anyone that loves The King is going to love this stat. Read More »
You didn’t have to watch more than a couple games this year to know that Tyreke Evans is a man amongst boys. The 20-year-old rookie, who’s averaging an astounding 20.3 points, 5.2 rebounds and 5.6 assists per game for the Kings, has been even better than advertised. But one thing that I doubt many people expected was how physically dominant the 6-6 guard would be – especially in the lane – during his first season. Believe it or not, Tyreke gets to the rim (and converts) more than any other player in the League. Read More »
The people have spoken. After tons of official entries and lots of back and forth in the comments section of the site to give Gilbert Arenas a new nickname, it really came down to two potential winners. The first was opeyemi olomo’s entry of the “The Sixth Sense,” followed by Logan Light‘s entry of “The Barracuda.”
