NCAA Tournament Players To Watch: West Region

Pitt's Ashton Gibbs

Granted, watching basketball all the time is part of my job, but it still amazes me how many people don’t (or rarely) watch college hoops until the NCAA Tournament. Because of such inexcusable ignoring of America’s best spectator sport (if you ask me), during the Big Dance I usually get peppered with “Who is that guy?” or “Who does [Team X] got?” questions.

Some of them make sense — even I can’t say I’ve seen Wofford or UC Santa Barbara play this year — but a lot of the players who slip under the mainstream radar don’t deserve the anonymity. After giving your four Players to Watch from the Midwest and South regions yesterday, here’s the West: Read More »

“You Can’t Spell Compete Without Mo Pete”

From Baron Davis to Steve Nash to JaVale McGee, I’m definitely a fan of NBA players getting behind the camera to make some amazing videos. And these two latest gems from the Hornets duo of Morris Peterson and Chris Paul are no different. After launching his new website, Mo Pete put up two videos: one of his clone “Less Pete” and one of CP3 in a spoof of the movie “Paranormal Activity.” Check ‘em both out after the jump. Read More »

Daily Fantasy Diagnosis: 3.16

Carmelo Anthony

Beast of the Night: Carmelo Anthony finished with 45 points, 3 threes, 10 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 block and 1 turnover. He shot 51 percent (18-35) from the field and 86 percent (6-7) from the free throw line. He’s lost some of the luster he had earlier in the season but is still having a much-improved season. Carmelo’s 45 not enough; Lakers battle vs. D-League Warriors

Carmelo Anthony, Dime #53

Carmelo Anthony did everything he was supposed to do against the Rockets on Monday, except win the game. All night long ‘Melo was proving why Clyde Drexler called him “probably the best — no, he IS the best offensive player in the game,” scoring 45 points on 18-of-35 shooting to go with 10 rebounds and only one turnover … ‘Melo was clutch in the fourth, dropping 15 of Denver’s 28 points and putting the Nuggets up double-digits. But next thing you know, Houston hit a few threes and suddenly it was a one-possession game. And every time ‘Melo seemed to stick the dagger, somebody would respond on the other end. Read More »

Trey Starks With The Dunk of the Year

Every year there are candidates, and every year there are dunks that blow those candidates out of the water. Meet Trey Starks. The senior from Hillcrest High School in Springfield, Mo., not only finished with a game-high 22 points as the Hornets won their first state championship since 1984, but the 6-foot guard also jumped over Oakville High School’s Garrett Reeg (who’s listed at 6-6) in the third quarter of Saturday’s game for a monster dunk. Check out the damage after the jump. Read More »
