Flip Murray’s impossible 60-footer (that didn’t count)
“No, no, no … this is Ghana. You, my friend, are shooting for the Sudan.”
“And a hook shot.”
“AND A HOOK SHOT!”

The Suns weren’t supposed to be good this year, remember? After missing the playoffs in ’09, they traded Shaq for nothing, Steve Nash and Grant Hill had only gotten older, and the Amar’e Stoudemire trade rumor/free agency situation seemed like a recipe for bad chemistry. That was all forgotten when Phoenix was one of the hottest teams in the League getting out the gate, and last night they became the 5th Western Conference team to clinch a playoff spot while winning their eighth game in a row … Read More »

We spend a ton of time on Twitter every day. We have to, it’s the fastest way to get breaking NBA news and information and to connect with our readers, basketball fans and other basketball outlets.
Along the way though, we find ourselves laughing every single day at the tweets from NBA players, bloggers and fans. We decided that every afternoon we’re going to put the best tweets (both funny and informative) we see that day in one place for our dimemag.com readers who either aren’t on Twitter or don’t have the time to sit and follow tons of feeds all day long like we do.

Since Steve Lavin‘s name first surfaced as a candidate at St. John’s, I was excited. It doesn’t matter that he hasn’t coached for the past six years after he was fired at UCLA in 2003, Lavin was the right man for the job. Today, apparently the powers at be at St. John’s felt the same: according to a school spokesman, the school has hired the ESPN analyst and former UCLA coach to succeed Norm Roberts. Read More »

To the surprise of no one, Eddy Curry told the New York Daily News this week that he’s NOT opting out of his contract this summer, setting himself up to make $11.2 million next season for — assuming he has a repeat of this season — doing just shy of nothing.
You know NFL players, who play a more dangerous sport yet can be cut loose without pay at a moment’s notice, must have a deep-seeded jealousy of NBA players and their guaranteed money. Read More »

Yesterday in our compilations of the day’s best NBA tweets, we said that Marcus Williams (@mw1ll) was way too honest for THIS tweet. After seeing our post, he couldn’t help but set the record straight. Read More »
WHAT?! An elementary school play production of Scarface?! This is great! I know it’s nowhere close to being appropriate for kids their age, but the acting, the guns and the accents are on point! The “fudge” drops are priceless! The POPCORN?! I won’t even get into how much I love the popcorn on the table. I think in the second grade my class did a production of Johnny Appleseed.
Last week, the Xavier and Kansas State men’s teams played the best game of the 2010 NCAA Tournament, a double-overtime thriller that made Jordan Crawford, Terrell Holloway, Jacob Pullen and Denis Clemente famous. Last night, after this sequence to end the Xavier/Stanford women’s game, you could argue that Xavier/K-State wasn’t even the craziest game involving Xavier in 2010.

Don’t think Cavs fans are excited to have Big Z back on their roster? Check out these two fan made t-shirts dedicated to the Lithuanian big man’s return to Cleveland. The one on the left is available at Homage Clothing and the one on the right is available at Fresh Brewed Tees. Both shirts are a thank you gesture from Cavs fans to Big Z for staying loyal to the only team he’s ever suited up for since his first day in the League – way back in 1997. Read More »

Since Chris Paul‘s return to the lineup, the Hornets are 2-2. In his absence they were 8-17. So why are there still people saying that they should trade CP3 in order to run with the cheaper model in rookie Darren Collison? I don’t know. Last night, the Hornets beat the Lakers and Paul finished with 15 points, four rebounds and 13 assists in 39 minutes, while Collison finished with 17 points, three rebounds and three assists in 21 minutes. Both guys added a steal and two turnovers, and both guys finished the game with a plus/minus of +14. So where to from here? Read More »
