Weekend Wonder: Stephen Curry went Jurassic on the Raptors on Saturday with 35 points, 5 threes, 6 rebound, 10 assists, 4 steals and 1 block. He shot 62 percent (13-21) from the floor, 100 percent (4-4) from the line and had 2 turnovers. In fantasy terms, Curry is clearly the rookie of the year. Read More »

Granted, watching basketball all the time is part of my job, but it still amazes me how many people don’t (or rarely) watch college hoops until the NCAA Tournament. Because of such inexcusable ignoring of America’s best spectator sport (if you ask me), during the Big Dance I usually get peppered with “Who is that guy?” or “Who does [Team X] got?” questions.
Some of them make sense — even I can’t say I’ve seen Wofford or UC Santa Barbara play this year — but a lot of the players who slip under the mainstream radar don’t deserve the anonymity. So in the days leading up to the Tournament, we’ll be giving you four Players To Watch for each region, starting with the Midwest: Read More »

All week long, we’ve been saying Sunday’s game at Cleveland was a crucial test for the Celtics. Win or lose (seeing as it’s tough for anybody to win in LeBron‘s gym), the most important thing would be how much fight Boston had in them. So on that level, you can’t be too disappointed if you’re a Celtics fan; they hung in there well into the second half before LeBron (30 pts, 8 rebs, 7 asts, 3 blks) become too much down the stretch … Read More »

Oftentimes when dunks happen in smaller conferences, such as this gem from the Big West Conference, they get lost in the shuffle. But thanks to YouTube, you can see Cal State Fullerton’s Gerard Anderson take care of business. Check out the video after the jump. Read More »

Coming from Vermont, you know I tuned in for the America East Championship game yesterday between UVM and BU. And putting on a show – as always – was high-flying forward Marqus Blakely. Finishing with 24 points and 18 rebounds, it was Blakely’s dunk late in the second half that should have teams worried come the first-round of the NCAA Tournament. Check out the video after the jump. Amidst some crucial college basketball games and one major boxing match, the biggest upset on Saturday happened when the Knicks snapped the Mavericks’ 13-game win streak. Playing at home, maybe Dirk Nowitzki and crew were preoccupied with trying to get to the Manny Pacquiao/Joshua Clottey down the road, but they never showed up and got 35-pieced. Adding to the unlikely upset was that the last time these teams met, Dallas went to MSG and annihilated the Knicks by 50 … Read More »

Going outside the norm was the theme of last night’s Lakers/Suns game. In a close fourth quarter against a not-so-lockdown defense, Kobe didn’t go nutso shooting the ball, scoring “only” eight of his 21 points in the quarter and just two during L.A.’s decisive run. Ron Artest, meanwhile, was a regular Mitch Richmond out there; the normally streaky shooter showed a smooth stroke (15 pts, 3 threes) and knocked down some daggers in crunch time to secure the win … Read More »

T.G.I.F. With the weekend on my mind, thought this would be the perfect segue. To honor their recent sponsorship deal with the Lakers, 1800 Tequila has created a special limited edition bottle of their premium silver tequila. The commemorative bottle swaps out the brand’s traditional blue and silver colorway for the Lakers’ famous purple and gold. Read More »
