By now you’ve probably heard that Stephon Marbury took home MVP honors the other day in the Chinese Basketball Association’s All-Star Game. Among the 30 points that he dropped are these three ridiculous treys in less than a minute from deep beyond the arc.
Your immediate reaction after reading the title is “absolutely not,” and as of right now, it’s the right one. In fact, how can anyone compete with a ’96 lineup of Kobe, A.I., Ray Allen and Steve Nash or a ’03 lineup of LeBron, D-Wade, ‘Melo and Chris Bosh. Although we’ve seen how well Tyreke Evans, Stephen Curry, Brandon Jennings and Darren Collison have played so far, it’s doubtful that any of them will be Hall of Famers. Still, my friend over at NYKBlog makes a very compelling case about the potential of this year’s draft as the best ever. The argument comes down to this: Would your rather have four Hall of Famers and a big drop off after that, or 20 guys who can be All-Stars and good role players for a long time? Read More »
With multiple Cindarellas and plenty of drama at this year’s Big Dance, many fans are wondering who will be crowned the king. While it’s too late to adjust your bracket, the answer is most likely found on each team’s roster. Since 1979, every National Champion (except Maryland in 2002) has had at least one McDonald’s All American on its roster. That’s a 97 percent proof-point. So even though Syracuse and West Virginia are playing well, and Northern Iowa, St. Mary’s and Cornell are hoping to win again before the clock strikes midnight, history is not on their side. In the first half of last night’s Hawks/Bucks game, Jamal Crawford got a steal and took off the other way with only Luke Ridnour standing between him and the basket. Considering what JC did once upon a time to Kirk Hinrich — who’s actually a good defender — I was kind of afraid for Ridnour’s general health. But Crawford let him off easy with a simple wraparound behind-the-back and finger roll. Read More »
Judging by the headline, you might think that this dunk contest took place back in the early 2000s. Widely known as two of the best dunkers around, Gerald Green and James White never quite made it in the NBA. But nonetheless, the two have resurfaced halfway around the world in Russia, as Green (Lokomotiv Kuban) took on White (Spartak St. Petersburg) in the dunk contest of the Russian Cup. Check out the battle after the jump. Read More »
Have you ever had to hop a fence just to get in a game of 1-on-1, or sneak into a gym to put up some extra shots? It seems like nowadays there aren’t a lot of places to just go and play ball anymore. But Converse is providing a solution to the problem; they’re unlocking gyms across the country and giving inner-city youth the opportunity to hoop it up in a safe and structured environment. And most importantly, the kids are having fun. Read More »
Kevin Willis is the oldest man to play in more than one NBA game during a season; he was 44 when he made five appearances with the Mavericks at the tail end of the 2007 campaign. Before that, Robert Parish was 43 years old when he played in 40-plus games (including the playoffs) for the Bulls during their ’97 championship run.
Making an impact as a middle-aged man in a young man’s sport is tough for anybody. Read More »
When I woke up this morning, this was the text I had from Austin: “Yo! Did you see what Amar’e just did to Anthony Tolliver? Call CSI Oakland cause he just killed that man.” Check the evidence after the jump. Read More »
