Carolina Coalition! (coalition of lions) A coalition is comprised of 2-6 male lions that may or may not be related. From time to time, the authority of the coalition is challenged by another coalition. When that happens, lions of the existing coalition must fight hard to defend their territory. Sorry, Charlotte. But "Carolina" Coalition rolls off the tongue way better and markets the brand to a wider region. The reason Hornets worked was 1.) the rooted history of the moniker in Charlotte, 2.) Charlotte and Hornet both end in “it” sounds, so there was a nice flow to the sound of it. Likewise, Carolina and Coalition both begin with hard C sounds. Carolina ends with a vowel, so it flows right into the next word without pause. Coalition can be shortened to - Coals? Coalies? Sort of the way Knickerbockers = Knicks, or Seventy-Sixers = Sixers. This post started out being for Charlotte Pride(as in a pride of lions). But as I read up on it, a pride consists mainly of females.

Bobcats is fine. Once they consistently win,the name will become embraced. The hornets was certainly perfect. However, there have been some good proposals. Any name without an "s" at the end should not be considered - including the flight. Good names include:
the Charlotte __________:
-Barons (incorporate the flight and title of nobility elements like http://www.tinnedesign.com/images/Logo_BrooklynBarons.jpg or http://www.villastrations.com/images/barons1-copy.jpg)
-Royals (too bad the kings exist)
or
the Carolina __________:
-Crowns (again, the kings)
-Breakers (waves, like http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v398/notoriousap/logo/breakers.gif)
-Coasts/Coasters/Coastals (cause of the OBX, incorporate swift/quick movement elements)
- Catamounts (keepin the cats theme, better than cougars)
- Capes (OBX reference, combine it with some creepy/mean caped dude)

Charlotte Racers - It shows the history of stock car racing in the region & it has basketball theme like racing down the court.

Start of the game could begin with announcer saying:
Ladies & Gentlemen, start your cheering for your Charlotte Racers!!!

I do like the idea of Air Charlotte but how about The Charlotte or Carolina Redtails. "The Redtails," were the famous all-Black outfit that fought both American prejudice and Nazi militarism during WWII. They were the 332nd Fighter Group. It pays homage to aviation. It also pays homage to the black fighters and considering Jordan is only the second black owner it fits. The only problem is having two NBA franchises with hawk logos. They would just have to create a better logo than Atlanta.

If you’re like me and most people in Charlotte and the Carolinas, you probably never really liked the name "Charlotte Bobcats" when it was announced a few years ago. It was rumored then and many have said that the voting was rigged so the team would have Mr. Johnson’s name and that "Flight" was actually the original winner of the team’s naming contest. I live in and love the city of Charlotte, but I think it’s selfish for us to claim a team all to ourselves when the chances of the Carolinas getting another pro basketball team in the near future are very unlikely. It also just makes good business to name the team after the region rather than 1 city located in a region with a lot of great cities and great people who just happen toi be sports fans! I believe the names of the Carolina Panthers and Carolina Hurricanes have worked well for them in their respective leagues. The Panthers are ranked 12th in the NFL for revenue generated and the Hurricanes 21st in the NHL. Both of them beat out much larger cities than they are located in for their revenue earning. Naming the team after the region really opens up the door to unlimited revenue possibilities.

We might even be able to attract better players. Not that I don’ t think that we have some great players now, because we do. I’m just talking about the big names like Kobe and Lebron etc. These guys are looking to play on a big stage. Think about this, if you were a free agent or college star just getting ready to enter the NBA, would you rather go play for and represent one city? Or would you rather go and play for and represent 2 states and a whole region? Looks like a no brainer to me! Which stage is bigger!?

While I’m on my Carolina Flight soapbox, I think it would be great if they changed their team colors to something closer to the Panthers. And Rufus has to go! At least the name Rufus anyway. Did Bob really think that the name Rufus was going to be popular in the south? Give me a break!

The way I see it, Jordan now has a great opportunity to get things back on track with this team. I, like many of you just hope he makes the most of it. Changing the name from the Charlotte Bobcats to The Carolina Flight would be a great place to start.

If you agree with me, become a fan of "Change the name of the Charlotte Bobcats to The Carolina Flight" on Facebook and pass this on and let’s make it happen!

Thanks,

Shawn Vallini- already a Carolina Flight fan!
