Top 10 NBA Championship X-Factors

Kevin Garnett

After avoiding it for years, I finally added “NUMB3RS” to my regular TV cop show rotation. Quick summary: FBI agent has his math-genius brother (a college professor at “Cal-Sci”) assist on cases where his math skills help catch the bad guys. Solid show, and contrary to my initial worries, it’s easy to follow even if you suck at math like me.

The other night I caught the “NUMB3RS” re-run where Pau Gasol and Jordan Farmar guest-starred. Read More »

2009-10 Fantasy Basketball Honors

Kevin Durant

MVP: Kevin Durant takes this honor, by a hair, over LeBron James. Yes, this seems rather absurd since King James dominated the “Beast of the Night” and “Weekend Wonder” honors throughout the season, but when it comes down to Durant and LBJ, it’s pretty much a coin flip. They’re pretty even in points, threes, rebounds, steals, blocks, turnovers and field-goal percentage, but James had the edge in assists and Durant handily won the free-throw shooting category. So what gives the edge to KD? Read More »

B-Roy’s Bad News for Portland; NBA coaches meet firing squad

Brandon Roy

With the NBA regular season in the books, Thursday was apparently just right for firing coaches. The Sixers unloaded Eddie Jordan after just one season, while the Clippers cut interim coach Kim Hughes loose. And in Detroit, Joe Dumars is surprisingly keeping his gun in the holster and won’t fire first-year coach John Kuester. If you’re one of the popular candidates for available jobs like Jeff Van Gundy, Avery Johnson or Mark Jackson — or, you know, somebody who actually coached this past season — which of those jobs sounds more appealing? In L.A. you’d be working for maybe the worst owner in sports, but in Philly you’d inherit a roster that seriously lacks in talent and basketball IQ … Read More »

Throwback Thursdays: Robert Parish

Robert Parish

Welcome to our newest segment, featuring throwback’s from glory’s past. While I have been a friend of the program for quite some time, it is great to be on board working with the Dime crew – easily the best group of people under one roof the Coach has ever worked with. What is great about Dime is that we all have our own niche in the game. Mine has always been spread between the coaching, the writing and the history. With the history comes the past styles and memorable figures. I just happen to have a closet full of gear featuring some quality throwback joints. Welcome to Throwback Thursdays. Read More »

We Reminisce: Mitch Richmond

Just because. A couple years ago I broke down Mitch Richmond‘s Hall of Fame chances and deemed him out, but that doesn’t mean The Rock wasn’t one of the nastiest scorers of his era. Definitely one of the most underrated players. Of today’s NBA guards, who do you think has a game most similar to Richmond?

Breaking News: Clippers Fire Kim Hughes; L.A.’s Next Move

Los Angeles Clippers

In an unsurprising move today, Kim Hughes has been fired as interim coach of the Los Angeles Clippers, the team announced. Missing the postseason for the 15th time in 17 years, what else did you expect? But there is light at the end of the tunnel. Just like the Knicks’ adding Mike D’Antoni and the Nets apparently offering Coach K unprecedented money, the Clippers have a chance now to bring on a coach that can attract a top-level free agent to play alongside a very promising nucleus of Baron Davis, Eric Gordon, Chris Kaman and Blake Griffin. And after finishing with fewer than 30 wins for the third consecutive year, they need all the help they can get. Read More »

Dime Q&A: Lamar Odom talks about defending the crown

Lamar Odom (photo. Tim Tadder)

It’s something they’d never admit publicly, but the L.A. Lakers didn’t really care that they lost to the Clippers in last night’s regular season finale. When you’re the defending NBA champs and you’ve secured the best record in your conference for the third straight year, the real season doesn’t start until the playoffs get underway.

Lamar Odom put up 21 points and 8 boards last night, his second-highest point total since he moved into the starting lineup to replace injured Andrew Bynum in late-March. Read More »

Gatorade G Series Pro Launch Party

Gatorade G Series Pro Launch Party

When I was in the Dallas Mavericks locker room during All-Star Weekend, I came across a Gatorade fridge that didn’t have your standard bottles in it. Intrigued, I asked the Mavs’ trainer what it was, and he said he couldn’t really tell me. I’ve known for years that guys in the League get different product than the Average Joe, but now Gatorade is opening up their secrets to the public. Introducing Gatorade G Series Pro. Read More »
