After last summer’s Jonny Flynn Draft Diary, we’ve become close with the Timberwolves rookie. That’s why we jumped at the chance to get up with arguably the most personable guy in the NBA when he surprised some kids at the Jerry Gamble Boys & Girls Club in Minneapolis, Minn. last week as part of the Panini Adrenalyn Tour. Check it out as Jonny talks about, amongst other things, trash talking with KG, his favorite sneaker of all-time and the worst hazing from the rookie class.
Too many times, it feels like the people and the brands in charge of guiding the path of basketball and basketball gear seem to do so without ever talking to and taking cues from the sources that matter most – actual basketball players and fans. The brand has launched an initiative called “Conversations,” an online community where Converse can have conversations with basketball consumers (even if they don’t play ball in Converse kicks) about their inspirations and preferences about all things hoop and basketball culture. So how does it work and what can you get out of it by joining? Read More »
With the season almost over, NBA GMs have their minds set on the NBA Playoffs. White people play golf and hockey … Black people run track and play basketball … Europeans play soccer … Africans run marathons … Asians play badminton … Latinos play baseball … The Winter Olympics were probably invented so White people had more sports to dominate…Read More »
The always entertaining and interesting Jonah Lehrer has an essay in this past weekend’s Wall Street Journal which uses recent studies to examine The Superstar Effect: “While challenging competitions are supposed to bring out our best, these studies demonstrate that when people are forced to compete against a peer who seems far superior, they often don’t rise to the challenge. Instead, they give up.” Tiger Woods is the prime example, and though the studies mostly revolve around individually geared performances from SAT’s to performing in the work place, the effect applies more generally to underdogs.
