The Real NBA Coach of the Year will get snubbed in 2010

Even more than MVP, the Coach of the Year award needs a criteria makeover. Because while it’s kind of ridiculous in retrospect that Shaq only has one MVP when he was the most dominant game-changing basketball player in the NBA for several years, it’s patently ridiculous that Jerry Sloan was never deemed the best coach in the League over any of his two decades-plus run in Utah while continually placing his team in the title contending picture. Eric Gordon & Jordan Farmar Become Teammates For A Day

Eric Gordon, Dime #28

In Los Angeles, you’re either a fan of the Lakers or the Clippers. Sure they share the same building, but the two teams couldn’t be more different. Tomorrow though, Eric Gordon (Clippers) and Jordan Farmar (Lakers) will don the Champs Sports employee uniforms at Northridge Fashion Center in LA and work the register for fans as adidas and the NBA continue to put players to work. NBA Rumor: Coach K & LeBron Takeover New Jersey

It seems that the less interest Duke’s Mike Krzyzewski shows about heading to the NBA, the more teams want him. And there’s no team that wants him (or needs him) more than the New Jersey Nets. And rightfully so, Coach K remains the Nets’ top choice to be their next head coach. Read More »

Daily Fantasy Diagnosis: 4.5 (Weekend Wrap-Up)

David Lee

Weekend Wonder: David Lee averaged 33 points, 15 rebounds, 7 assists, 0.5 steals and 1 block in two games. One of those games was a monstrous 37/20/10 line against the Warriors on Friday. Lee shot 58 percent from the field and 93 percent from the line in those contests and has turned himself into a fantasy giant this season. Read More »

Kevin Jones West Virginia Final Four Diary: The End of the Road

West Virginia was two wins shy of a national championship. While that won’t be any immediate consolation to the players who worked all season to get to the Final Four, it’s a lot better than 300-something other D-1 teams can say. Kevin Jones was an instrumental part in the Mountaineers’ run, averaging 13.5 points and 7.2 rebounds this season. And in WVU’s four NCAA Tournament wins, the 6-8 sophomore forward was good for 15 points and 8 boards a game.

Kevin agreed to check in with Dime during the most hectic week of his career to give us a behind-the-scenes look at what it was like reaching the pinnacle of college basketball. After West Virginia lost to Duke in the national semifinal Saturday night, he reflected on the season and the Final Four experience: Read More »

Ray Allen drops bombs on LeBron; San Antonio is still a contender

Ray Allen

How many of you turned away from Cavs/Celtics in the third quarter to go about your Easter Sunday laziness or (if you’re on the West Coast) go back to sleep? After a first half where every facet of their game was on-point, the Celts extended the lead to 22 in the third quarter, with Ray Allen shooting the rock like Shep in Above the Rim, and Rajon Rondo flying all over the place like he’d been hooked up to an IV of Red Bull. Duke and Butler in the NCAA title game; Derrick Rose is a Bad Man

Everybody wants to make the Hoosiers comparison, but the best movie for Butler‘s surprise run to the NCAA championship game might be Invictus. Yesterday’s win over Michigan State was like part basketball and part rugby. It was ugly, it was grimy, it was gritty, but the Bulldogs pulled off the upset despite shooting 31% from the field, enduring a 10-minute stretch in the second half where they didn’t make a shot, and trying time and time again to give the Spartans the game … Read More »

Duncan puts Dwight in his place; NCAA Final Four preview

Tim Duncan

Before you settle in this afternoon for the Final Four games (Butler/MSU tips off at 6 p.m. EST), first you should read these: The Dime crew’s best arguments for Michigan State, West Virginia, Butler or Duke walking away with the national championship after the dust settles Monday night. And for a behind-the-scenes look at what it’s like for the players in Indianapolis, check out Dime’s Final Four Diary with WVU’s Kevin Jones … Five minutes into last night’s Spurs/Magic game, things were looking bleak for the home team.
