Before the start of this season, I never could have imagined writing the above headline. Not that I’m part of the diehard Spurs faithful, or that I’ll be wearing a Tony Parker rookie jersey for Throwback Thursday next week, but rather because I couldn’t imagine Tony Parker wearing any other NBA jersey. His resume is impressive: three-time NBA Champion and All-Star, NBA Finals MVP and he even made the All-NBA Third Team last season. But as Austin Burton always points out, most people leave him off the list of the NBA’s best point guards almost every time. And because of that, San Antonio might send the nine-year NBA veteran packing this summer. Read More »
When Mehmet Okur shoots the basketball, he has great arc. But when’s attempting to get ice cubes in a glass, it looks like he’s trying hit a wide receiver on a slant route. Everything about this commercial is amazing.
The timing was just too perfect to be a coincidence. On the same night when they’d have to compete with the NFL Draft for ratings, the NBA just happened to roll out a schedule with Kobe and LeBron both in playoff action — the first time that had happened this postseason. Too bad the superstars failed to deliver their end of the c-o-n-spiracy, dropping road games to respective 8-seeds OKC and Chicago to make each series interesting again … You can’t watch a Thunder home game without hearing “college-type atmosphere” in the first 10 minutes. Welcome back for Week 2 of Throwback Thursdays with the Coach. Being that we started with Boston Celtic great Robert Parish last week, we need to show some respect to the second greatest franchise in league history, the Los Angeles Lakers. Today’s choice was actually the only Laker from Showtime who ever had a chance for his throwback to land in the Coach’s collection, as having a Magic Johnson joint was never an option. Big Game James Worthy was not only an all-time great Laker; he was an all-time great player – both at the collegiate and pro level. Read More »
The last time I saw Dennis Rodman he was on VH1′s “Celebrity Rehab,” swimming in a deep pool of complete denial that he had anything more than a minor drinking problem. That was a couple months ago during the reality show’s first episode, and I didn’t watch any more after that.
If the TV rehab process did in fact work for Rodman, he’s apparently not afraid to put himself back in sketchy situations where drinks will flow freely. I just got this press release a couple minutes ago: Read More »
This is amazing! When former Nets coachLawrence Frank appeared on ESPN’s First Take yesterday morning, Frank gave his opinion of LeBron‘s Game 2 performance against the Bulls. Only thing was, he didn’t realized that the cameras were rolling as he referred to LeBron as “that f****r” and his former Nets as “shit.”
Funny how perception works. John Calipari managed to land Derrick Rose, Tyreke Evans and John Wall as a recruiter, oversaw them for one year each before they went pro, and now he’s known as the college coach to mold NBA point guards. Now the best PG’s in high school are fighting amongst each other for the right to play for Coach Cal at Kentucky.
Meanwhile, Byron Scott made his NBA head coaching bones as the boss of Jason Kidd (New Jersey) during his prime and Chris Paul (New Orleans) during his rise to superstardom. Read More »
Brooks got 62 out of 123 first-place votes. Kevin Durant got the next-highest amount with 17 first-place votes, but Durant actually tied overall for second with George Hill and Marc Gasol. Andrew Bogut was fifth, Russell Westbrook was sixth, and Joakim Noah, Gerald Wallace, Corey Brewer and Brook Lopez rounded out the Top 10. Read More »
We already know the runaway winner of this year’s MVP voting, but through the first few days of the NBA playoffs, the crown for unofficial postseason MVP is still being decided. And right now, Deron Williams is as much a competitor as anybody. Through the first two games of the Nuggets/Jazz series, Deron is averaging 29.5 points and 12.5 assists, shooting 51 percent from the field, 50 percent from three, and 80 percent at the line. With the Lakers currently up 2-0 on the Thunder, our homies over at Tradition got in these awesome Kobe tees from the Sunnymead, Calif. based brand, The Forest Lab. Titled “Only Kings Have Rings,” this tee could also be a shot at LeBron (in a rap diss kind of way). Check out detailed pics of this limited edition tee after the jump. Read More »
