Yesterday, when the folks at Nike Sportswear tweeted that Nike All Court Low Quickstrike is the summer kicks of choice, I had to check ‘em out. Here are two colorways that dropped this past weekend at your hottest local sneaker boutique. Read More »
Whenever I get into the debate over where LeBron is going to sign this summer, people ask me why I don’t think he’d sign with the Nets. While Jay-Z and playing in Brooklyn are great incentives, people don’t realize that the Nets will spend the next two seasons at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. But there is one free agent that not only would love to play in Newark, but hopes the team never leaves: Shaquille O’Neal. Read More »
The crossover is an art. While three-point shooting and dunking came into the game at a later time, dribbling has been a part since Day 1. Yes, putting someone on a poster with a vicious dunk is nice, but leaving them in your dust with an ill crossover can be just as damaging. Check out the year’s Top 10 crossovers below.
Best-case scenario for the Orlando Magic: This isn’t going to be fo’, fo’, fo’ and fo’ on their way to a championship. Worst-case: They’ve run into a veteran squad of proven winners that are peaking at the right time and have months’ worth of chips on their shoulders … Ray Allen led the way for Boston in yesterday’s Eastern Conference Finals Game 1 win, scoring 25 points (8-16 FG) as the Celtics jumped out to an early lead on the road and were up double-digits in the first half before stretching the lead to 20 late in the third quarter. Going into the fourth it was a 16-point lead before White Chocolate and Air France hit back-to-back triples to spark an Orlando rally. Read More »
Now it’s back to basketball, and the mind games are well underway. Phil Jackson is the master of this stuff, and while it’s usually about foul calls one way or the other, he’s got a different strategy for Steve Nash. Asked by reporters whether it’s tough to simulate Nash in L.A.’s practices, Phil snapped, “Yeah, because you can’t carry the ball like he does in practice. You can’t pick that ball up and run with it.” … Nash had a great comeback, though: “I’ve never heard anyone accuse me of carrying it. I mean, the best coach in the League, Gregg Popovich, didn’t have a problem with it last week.” Put the claws away, fellas … Serious question, though. In a 7-game series, championship on the line, would you want Phil or Pop coaching your squad? … Read More »
The NBA is off until Sunday, when the Celtics and Magic tip-off the Eastern Conference Finals (Lakers vs. Suns begins Monday). In the meantime, be prepared for 24/7 LeBron James coverage. With everybody weighing in yesterday to either breakdown what went wrong for the Cavs or speculate where LeBron will end up this summer, it was LBJ overload on Friday. Realistically, it’s going to come down to three teams: Cleveland, Chicago or New York. They’re going to throw everything they have at LeBron, but what happens for the two franchises that miss out on him? Read More »
A couple nights ago, I was browsing the Big Ten Network OnDemand and settled on a Purdue/Indiana game from 1993. Bobby Knight, Gene Keady when he still kinda had hair, the immortal Damon Bailey, Alan Henderson, Cuonzo Martin … and Glenn Robinson.
If you don’t remember Robinson, a.k.a. “Big Dog” in his prime, he was a BEAST. He dropped 30.3 points and 10.1 rebounds per game as a junior at Purdue, swept all the national Player of the Year awards, and was picked No. 1 overall in that year’s NBA Draft. His push for a $100 million rookie contract from the Bucks (he ended up getting like $65M if I recall) actually set the wheels in motion for the current NBA rookie salary cap. Read More »
Some of the crew is definitely dragging a little today after catching the red eye back from Los Angeles last night following Nike Basketball‘s “I Got This!” Zoom Kobe V Aston Martin Pack release event at Staples Center.
