Now you know who won, but if you weren’t there, it’s kind of hard to imagine what your favorite musicians and rappers look like playing ball. So take a second to see all the action from today’s Converse Band of Ballers. Some highlights include Jim Jones and Jermaine Dupri talking continuous smack to one another, while Cam’ron showed up unannounced and played with The Jones Family. Check it all out after the jump. If you weren’t at today’s Converse Band of Ballers, you missed out. Bringing together Converse’s love of music, basketball and the city of Atlanta, seven teams battled it out 3-on-3 to be the champ. The teams include returning champs Jim Jones and The Jones Family (surprise guest Cam’ron, God Shammgod & Adrian “A-Butta” Walton), Jermaine Dupri and the So So Def Family, The Black Lips, Of Montreal, Steel Train, the Bad News team (Jay Electronica, Donnis & Sean Price) and the Southern Hospitality team (OJ Da Juiceman, Pill & Shawty Lo). In a gym small enough to make all the fans feel like they were a part of the action, the returning champs turned in a repeat performance. I got up with the day’s MVP A-Butta, as well as Capo and Shammgod after the game.
As I think you can tell by now, Converse is dedicated to bringing basketball to the youth of Atlanta. And the Converse Open Gym program does just that. Giving youth ages 12-18, regardless of skill level, the opportunity to play pick-up basketball games, Converse supplies jerseys and a place to play. Check out some pics of the action after the jump. Getting an exclusive glimpse of Converse’s deep involvement with the city of Atlanta, as well as a private showing of the Fall Holiday 2010 product line, you couldn’t ask for much more. Held at the legendary Georgia Freight Room, the brand did an amazing job with the display. But rather than having me just write about it, I figured the best way to experience it all is through pictures. Check out the whole evening below… Read More »
It truly feels like the playoffs now. And not because three of the four conference semifinal matchups are set, or because we’ve got our first Game 7 on the horizon, or because the “Just Happy To Be Here” crew is all gone. It feels like the playoffs now because Kobe Bryant has unleashed the bottom-teeth scowl on a full-time basis … Kobe (32 pts) was bearing his teeth all throughout last night’s Lakers/Thunder Game 6 in Oklahoma City, like when he stuck a fadeaway with four seconds left in the first half to put L.A. up by six at the break, then ran off 13 of the Lakers’ first 15 points of the second half.
