With so many corny and over-directed basketball films out there, we figured it was time to put together a rundown of all the best hoop flicks. No criteria needed here; just good action and solid story lines. Here are the 10 best films you need to see as a basketball/movie fan. Read More »
Jameer Nelson has proven to be Dwight Howard‘s most reliable sidekick in the Eastern Conference Finals as he hit two big threes in overtime of Game 4, and came up big again last night dropping 24 points, five rebounds and five assists. Nelson’s incredible production comes despite the fact that he is generously listed at six feet tall. And Nelson’s height has been a knock on him since his playing days at St. Joe’s. People have said he was too small to have an impact in the NBA, but Nelson has continued to prove doubters wrong. Read More »
Speculation of exactly who will grace the cover of NBA 2K11 has gone from NBA Most Valuable Player LeBron James all the way down to NBA Rookie of the Year Tyreke Evans. But from what ESPN.com and many other sources are reporting, 2K Sports is attempting to get the greatest of all-time. While Phil Jackson is still trying to figure out Phoenix’s zone defense in time for Game 5 tonight, his name is being circulated wildly in coaching rumors. The Bulls, Nets, and Cavs have all either (allegedly) reached out to Jackson or put him on their coaching wish-list. Jackson’s contract with the Lakers is up after the season, and the Lakers have made it known that they want Phil to take a paycut from his $12 million salary. With a possible paycut looming, Phil could land elsewhere this summer, and any team looking to sign LeBron needs to scoop him up. Read More »
With the Suns’ zone working so well, it’s forcing the Lakers out of the paint and to the three-point line. Besides Kobe, the rest of the Lake Show have definitely been struggling with their stroke. So, being the avid Laker fan that I am, I instantly began to think about people that would thrive if defenses played zone against them. With that being said I give you my All-Zone Buster First & Second Team. Read More »
If this looks a lot like yesterday’s Smack, that’s because both NBA conference finals are starting to look strangely identical. Just like Lakers/Suns, the Celtics/Magic series was initially playing out like a varsity-versus-JV scrimmage, but now the team we thought would be gone fishin’ already has jacked the momentum and set the stage for what could be an unlikely Game 7 … Vince Carter, Rashard Lewis and Jameer Nelson each knocked down three-pointers in the opening minutes of the first quarter, setting the tone for the rest of the night. As a Nets fan, I have loved Mikhail Prokhorov since the day he took over the team. Now with this YouTube video of him doing Jet Ski stunts, I just can’t get enough of this guy. Prokhorov not only has the pockets to sign big-time players, but he’s also already the coolest owner in pro sports. Imagine Mikhail taking LeBron out to the ocean for a stunt competition, attempting to lure him to Jersey. Anything is possible.
As the end of the NBA regular season draws near, fans of the forgotten Lottery squads all ask themselves one question:
Should we start tanking games now to get a better draft pick?
Usually I’m 100% against that idea. Even if scoring the No. 1 pick means you’ll get LeBron or Shaq or Duncan, I just don’t want my team/coach out there trying to lose. If you get lucky and the balls bounce your way for a franchise-changing superstar, fine; it was meant to happen. But if you tank and then don’t get the top pick anyway, you might have messed around and created a losing culture in your locker room that can take years to eradicate. Read More »
