Other than the Celtics losing Game 4 last night at home, the talk of the basketball world was that a familiar face in Chicago Bulls basketball could be returning home. No, not that guy, but rather his coach. According to Chris Broussard of ESPN The Magazine and two sources with knowledge of the situation, the Bulls have reached out to Phil Jackson through back channels to gauge his interest in returning to the franchise he won six NBA titles with. Orlando’s goals were relatively humble going into last night’s Eastern Conference Finals Game 4: (1) Don’t get blown out of the water in the first quarter, (2) Get something resembling an average performance from your $118 million third option, and (3) Win or go golfing. By pulling off the hat trick, the Magic avoided elimination while winning the first overtime game of these 2010 playoffs … Jameer Nelson was the difference in this one. Read More »
If you are not one of the nearly seven million people to have seen this video since it was posted online last week, then this will be the best three minutes you spend all day (well, 10 minutes after you send it to all your friends). Nike has always put out some of the best TV and web spots, but this one is just unreal. The NBA Finals will have a lot of competition this June.
In you’re a New York City sneakerhead, then chances are I ran into you at Sneaker Con this past Saturday. Held down at 151 Sullivan Street, the place was packed with people buying, selling and trading kicks from sunrise to sunset. With probably a 95-to-5 guy/girl ratio, a phrase like “Where’d you get those?” was more common than “What’s your name?” And wearing my Parra x Nike Air Max 1s, I was even offered $700 for the shoes off my feet. Check out some pics from the event. Read More »
There really isn’t much separating Shannon Brown from Nate Robinson. Both are built like football players on the basketball court, both are short for their natural position, but both make up for that lack of height with explosive athleticism.
Nate and Shannon are also both free agents this summer, and in their current roles as “highlight” players — i.e. easy to overrate because they pop up on YouTube on a regular basis — need those big plays to stick in the minds of GM’s as they look for long-term security in the League. While Nate is scrounging for garbage time minutes as the Celtics get closer to the NBA Finals, Shannon helped his cause in Sunday’s Lakers/Suns game thanks to a Jordan-esque follow dunk off a missed free throw. But do Shannon and Nate crack the list of Top 10 highlight-makers (dunks, circus shots, blocks, dimes, game-winners) still active in the postseason? Read More »
Okay, so Bodog put the Magic at +7 tonight. I wouldn’t take it either with the way the Celts have been playing. Still though, I just can’t see the Magic getting swept. How can a team that won eight straight lose the next four? Truthfully, this would be a bigger collapse than the 2007 Mavericks. Orlando is just too good to lose like this. We keep waiting for Stan Van Gundy to adjust but even if he has tried to, he just has no answer for Rondo and cannot find a way to get Rashard Lewis going. But here are three reasons why Orlando will be returning home for a Game 5. Read More »
The Celtics have thoroughly outplayed the Magic in this series so far, and there is no reason to believe they won’t outplay them again tonight. The Celtics are on a maniacal path to the NBA Finals, and not even Superman can stop them from getting there. Here are three reasons why the Celtics won’t play after tonight until the day the NBA Finals starts. Read More »
The funniest thing about the NBA Draft Lottery is how team reps try to balance acting happy about getting a high pick with looking sufficiently disappointed that their team was bad enough to end up at the Lottery in the first place.
The 2010 Conflicted Emotions winner was the guy from the Pistons: During the drawing he broke into a big grin when his team landed the No. 7 pick, but as soon as ESPN’s Mark Jones said, “The Pistons missed the playoffs for the first time in since 2001,” his face immediately shifted to a somber, focused look.
Danny Granger forgot the “act happy” part. Repping the Pacers, Granger brought a John Wall jersey to the Lottery and was ready to rip off his dress shirt like the Incredible Hulk if the Pacers got the top pick. When they didn’t, he dropped his head onto the table. Lost in the comedy of the moment: Granger was advertising that he needs help. Read More »
So Mike Brown was officially fired today. Really though, he was gone after the Cavaliers lost Games 5 and 6 by a combined 50 points. This looked especially bad for Brown, a coach who came to the Cavs as a highly touted defensive specialist. So much for that. Read More »
I think Hot Clicks summed it up best: “If you’re a member of the media, please don’t ever crowd Jason Williams‘ locker.” Matt Barnes‘ reaction is priceless.
