While the NBA Playoffs are still going on, all of the big ticket free agents in the Summer of 2010 (LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh) are watching from home. Knowing that those franchises will do everything in their power to get them to stay, it’s more likely that they’ll be going elsewhere for next season. Looking forward to the future, this got me thinking… Which team would win more games without their superstar? Read More »

This year, Kentucky will most likely have an amazing five players – John Wall, DeMarcus Cousins, Patrick Patterson, Daniel Orton, and Eric Bledsoe – in the first round of the NBA Draft. And although they could’t win a National Championship, all five are expected to contribute on the next level. The question is though, how much of an impact will they make next year? Read More »

By deciding to throw shade on Lamar Odom‘s increasingly beastly performance (18 ppg, 15 rpg) in the Western Conference Finals, Amar’e Stoudemire made himself an easy scapegoat for the struggling Suns. Maybe if Amar’e hadn’t said anything, the fact that he’s grabbing only 4.5 boards per game wouldn’t be getting more attention than his solid point production (20.5 ppg), or maybe some people would ignore that the Lakers are actually targeting Amar’e on the defensive end and feeding whoever he’s guarding. Throughout this year, House of Hoops has been opening up new locations across the country. Last time we checked in, Wayne, New Jersey was the latest city to be graced with a HOH, and now Daly City, California can add their name to the list. With a free basketball clinic this Saturday, and a special appearance by Stephen Curry at the store opening next week, you definitely don’t want to miss these events. Read More »

Anybody who says one-and-done players ultimately hurt college programs more than they help should take a look at Kentucky. Thanks to John Calipari‘s lineage of point guards — Derrick Rose, Tyreke Evans and John Wall — that spent one year under Calipari before moving on to NBA riches, now the nation’s top high school PG’s fight each other for the right to accept a Kentucky scholarship. The revolving door system may not translate into a national championship, but Cal remains the most talked-about coach in the country, his reputation as a recruiter and developer of NBA talent preceding him. It’s funny how many people haven’t realized the NBA doesn’t give out “Comeback Player of the Year” anymore. Back in the mid-’80s — not coincidentally, during the Crack Boom — David Stern realized the CPOY award was starting to become the “Who recovered from a drug problem?” trophy, so he phased it out and turned it into the Most Improved Player award. There hasn’t been a CPOY since 1986, and yet even today, you’ll get people arguing for guys like Grant Hill and Shaun Livingston to win an award that doesn’t exist.
If there was a Comeback Player of the Year, though, in 2010 it would have belonged to Ben Wallace. Read More »

What makes the regular season and first and second rounds of the NBA Playoffs so good is that you can usually rely on at least one game every night. But once we hit the Conference Finals, NBA Finals, and the offseason, there is just less basketball to watch. This is why I savor things like the NBA Draft Combine, Summer League, and the World Championships/Olympics. Read More »

In trying to solve the puzzle that is Rashard Lewis‘ lack of production in the Eastern Conference Finals (5.5 ppg, 25% FG), it could be a complicated theory of motivation and mental blocks — or it could be as simple as the fact that Rashard has Kevin Garnett guarding him.
Either way, Orlando’s most prolific outside shooter, who averaged 20.4 points in the Magic’s second-round playoff win over Boston last year, needs to get it going if his team is going to avoid getting swept out of this postseason. Coach Stan Van Gundy is working on a plan, as reported in the Orlando Sentinel: Read More »

When asked during the Hawks-Magic series if he thought he was playing himself out of a maximum contract, Joe Johnson simply said, “No.” Well Joe, I hate to break it to you, but you did. Johnson played so poorly in the series, and looked so indifferent, it is hard to make the case he is worthy of max dollars. Read More »

What’s the next step for a retired NBA player? Some go into business, some get into coaching and others pick up a mic. No, I’m not talking about rapping, but rather as color commentators. So with that being said, here are the Top 5 most entertaining ex-NBA players turned announcers. Read More »
