Amidst all the hoopla surrounding the NBA Finals, we had a nice visit to the Dime office this week from Connor Nolte. You might remember that we featured Connor’s blog, Passer’s Remorse, in Dime #56, and that we did a big two-page interview with him titled “How To Run A Basketball Blog From The Bench” in Dime #57, but if not, you should check them out. Regardless, while redshirting at the University of Georgia this past season, Connor’s trick shots became an international sensation. In his honor, check out a compilation of all his game day trick shots, including an awesome cameo from Charles Barkley. Enjoy!
As a Celtics fan, I got a lot of texts, BBMs and e-mails last night after the game. Some of them were condolence calls, and others were boastful, champagne-ridden messages from Laker fans. But you know what? I was content. Back when I wrote that the Celtics could still win the NBA Championship on March 8th, people thought I was crazy. And in retrospect, I knew that i was going out on a limb. But after this amazing series, I’m more proud of Boston’s resilience than upset with their loss.

Along with ping-pong to the Chinese (38 of the last 40 world champions), ski-jumping to the Europeans, and distance running to the East Africans, soccer is another sport where Team USA might just have to concede the crown.
Prior to the 2010 World Cup, the U.S. was ranked 14th globally by FIFA, and really, the distance between us and heavyweights like Brazil, Italy and Argentina isn’t that close. Going into this morning’s group-stage match against Slovenia, the U.S. was especially a long shot to win this tournament with starting goalie Tim Howard nursing bruised and maybe broken ribs from the opening match against England. While everyone has been focused on the NBA Finals for the past few weeks, the 28 teams that have been watching from home had to be jealous. But even with the NBA Draft less than a week away, there has been surprisingly little chatter from many of the teams. That is, from every franchise except the Indiana Pacers. In one week’s time, the Pacers have basically put every player on the trading block, and made it known that they’re willing to deal. Read More »

Kobe Bryant ruled the basketball kingdom in 2009: NBA championship, Finals MVP, official status as one of the greatest players of all-time. With his game and his fame having never been at higher levels going into the 2010 season, what else did Kobe have to prove? In my interview from Dime #55 (Feb. 2010), the Black Mamba talked about legacies and legends, months before he would add a fifth ‘chip and another Finals MVP in last night’s Game 7 victory:Read More »
Pathetic. That’s how I would’ve put it. That was just a pathetic offensive performance. It’s really the only way to describe a game when a team shoots 32 percent from the field and their two best players go 6-26 in the first half of the biggest game of their lives. When Ron Artest is your best option for putting the ball in the hoop, you’ve got problems. Read More »
