C.J. Leslie High School Hoop Diary: Headed to NC State, Game 7 picks

C.J. Leslie

On the final High School Hoop national Top 50 list that includes 2010 seniors, Word of God Academy (Raleigh, N.C.) forward C.J. Leslie ranks 10th overall. Throughout the year, C.J. agreed to give HSH and Dime exclusive access and chronicle his thoughts in a bi-monthly diary about the recruiting process and his high school season. In an excerpt from his latest entry, C.J. — having recently signed with N.C. State over Kentucky, UConn, UCLA, Oregon and Florida — talks about the NBA Finals, and preparing for the next step at State: Read More »

Lakers, Celtics prep for Game 7; LeBron, D-Wade sweepstakes get weird

Kobe Bryant

So it’s all come down to this. Game 7, championship on the line, (arguably) the best individual player in the NBA right now against (arguably) the best cohesive team unit. Of course, if the Lakers play tonight like they played in Game 6, it won’t have to be Kobe vs. Boston, and it might not even be close … Making things tougher for the Celtics is not having Kendrick Perkins. Going into the Finals we figured Perk would miss at least one game with that technical foul situation hanging over his head, but not like this, having torn the MCL and PCL in his right knee. It’s a terrible way to have to miss the biggest game of your life … Read More »

Who is the NBA’s best role player of all-time?

Michael Cooper at USC

While I missed the majority of Lakers/Celtics Game 6 for my cousin’s high school graduation, everyone I know who watched the game had to come up with something to talk about during L.A.’s cold-blooded beatdown.

During the third quarter, one of my boys texted me: “Best role player ever in the NBA? Pippen?”

Depends on how you define a role player. To me, Scottie Pippen doesn’t count because he was too good. Read More »

You Make the Call: Is This Worth an Ejection?

The next time you want to complain about NBA refs making ticky-tack calls, remember this play: In today’s World Cup match between Uruguay and host South Africa, the home team was already down 1-0 late when their goalie got red-carded for “tackling” an opposing striker. I’m no soccer expert, but does this really seem worthy of getting ejected?

3 Things the Atlanta Hawks Have To Do This Summer

Josh Smith

By hiring former Mike Woodson assistant Larry Drew as its next head coach, the Hawks sent a message: Things need to change around here … but not that much.

The Hawks have improved each year for the last five, including a 53-win campaign this season where they earned the No. 3 seed in the East. And even if All-Star Joe Johnson leaves in free agency, Atlanta still has a solid young core in Josh Smith, Al Horford, Marvin Williams and Jeff Teague, plus a couple of solid vets in leadership positions, Jamal Crawford and Mike Bibby. The Impact Of Kendrick Perkins’ Knee Injury

Kendrick Perkins

As a basketball fan, even if you root for the Lakers, it is tough to see a guy go down in the NBA Finals. Kendrick Perkins‘ knee injury appears to rule him out for Game 7. If he is indeed out, I don’t think the Celtics will be able to recover and win the game.

Reports are that Perkins has a sprained knee with sprained MCL and PCL ligaments. If that is the case, Perkins could play, but his effectiveness would clearly be hampered. John Jenkins, a rising sophomore shooting guard at Vanderbilt University, sprained his knee against DePaul this past season, and talked about the effect the injury will have on Perkins’ game: Read More »

Top 10 Free Agents In The NBA Finals

Paul Pierce

Take your pick on the storyline you want to cover before Thursday’s Game 7, but if you ask me, the biggest story that no one is talking about is that 16 of the 30 players in the NBA Finals are going to be free agents after the season. With that in mind, we break down the Top 10 free agents in the NBA Finals. Read More »

2006 NBA Draft Redux: Adam Morrison vs. Shelden Williams

2006 NBA Draft

June 28, 2006. The Theatre at Madison Square Garden was brimming with anticipation as a fresh crop of NBA hopefuls filled the Green Room. With only college highlights to judge, it was anyone’s guess who was going to be the Next Big Thing or the Next Big Bust. Unfortunately, their careers haven’t gone quite as expected. Read More »

Lakers vs. Celtics "Battle Royale" T-Shirt

Like any heavyweight boxing match, it normally comes down to the final round before the knockout punch is delivered. And in this year’s NBA Finals, that’s exactly the case. So if you’re as amped as we are for Thursday’s Game 7, be sure to cop The Forest Lab‘s “Battle Royale” t-shirt. Check out a bigger pic after the jump. Read More »
