In the biggest free-agency bonanza to ever hit the NBA, LeBron James is the first domino that has to fall before everyone else figures out their next move. From D-Wade all the way down to Brian Scalabrine, you could say every other free agent’s future will in some way be affected by LeBron’s decision.
With the official start of free agency set for 12:01 a.m. Wednesday night/Thursday morning, we decided to look at each team believed to be in the running for LeBron and delve into the reasons why LBJ would and wouldn’t (or should and shouldn’t) sign with them. Next up: The Los Angeles Clippers. Read More »

Even more surreal than the fact that Shaq, T-Mac and Allen Iverson are among the least-talked-about and barely-coveted free agents available this summer, is the realization that two of the NBA’s top players — both relatively in their primes — are also getting overshadowed by the hype given to LeBron, D-Wade, Bosh, Amar’e, Boozer and Joe Johnson.
Paul Pierce and Dirk Nowitzki are both exercising their respective opt-out clauses and will join the free-agent pool on July 1. Rumors of Dirk opting out began to surface after his Mavericks were knocked out of the playoffs in the first round, but this latest development with Pierce just came across the wire late last night. Pierce’s agent told ESPN that his client has decided to opt-out of his $21.5 million deal. Dirk was also slated to make $21.5 million next season. Read More »
Less than 24 hours from the NBA free agency Royal Rumble, and teams are steady making moves to prepare their strongest pitch possible. The Nets, who have the first official crack at LeBron James (don’t count out somebody pulling a midnight surprise ambush), traded Yi Jianlian to the Wizards straight-up for Quinton Ross — a no-apologies strictly financial move that now puts New Jersey a good $30 million under the cap. That’s enough room to potentially sign two elite players. Even if Jay-Z can’t secure LeBron, we could imagine a core of Devin Harris, Joe Johnson, Rudy Gay, Derrick Favors and Brook Lopez … Read More »
With Raymond Felton possibly on his way out of Charlotte (not to mention Larry Brown), next season could be D.J. Augustin‘s first at the helm of the Bobcats offense. After an impressive rookie campaign, Augustin struggled last year as he averaged just 6.3 points on 39 percent shooting. Entering his third season, it’s a huge year for the former Texas guard to establish himself in the League.
Yesterday I caught up with D.J. to chat about the playoffs, Kevin Durant, Charlotte’s new owner, and Drake‘s new album… Read More »
Now that the NBA season is over and summer is underway, you can finally hit the gym, the playground, or your backyard and work on your own game. There is truly no better product out there right now to work on your free-throw shooting or jump shot than the SKLZ Rapid Fire …
Right up there with Wrestlemania, Major League Baseball’s opening day, and any time Serena Williams is on the tennis court, the annual release date for Madden is one of my unofficial sports-related holidays.
With EA Sports always looking to improve the industry’s best sports video game franchise, this year’s Madden has a new feature: the Swagger Rating. Just like speed, agility and throwing accuracy, players will now be rated on their “swagger” — presumably with higher marks going to receivers, corners, quarterbacks and Ray Lewis. Read More »
Don’t get me wrong, I think Brian Shaw — who has reportedly reached an agreement with the Cavaliers to be their next head coach — will be a good coach in the League. Ever since he retired in ’03 he’s been working for the Lakers, first as a scout and then on the bench as an assistant next to Phil Jackson and Tex Winter. Read More »
As the Wizards continue to rebuild and the Nets look to create more cap space for a run at LeBron and other superstars, the two teams agreed to a trade today sending Yi Jianlian to Washington for Quinton Ross.
Yi averaged 12 points and 7.2 rebounds this season, but missed 30 games due to injuries. And with Jersey drafting Derrick Favors, Yi’s starting power forward spot is gone. The Wizards have Andray Blatche at the four, but he broke his foot last week and will be out three months. Should Blatche start the season slow or out of shape, Yi could find a lot of time at the four. Read More »
Kobe Bryant played the majority of the last few years with finger problems. Two years ago, he suffered ligament damage in his right pinkie. Last year, it was more major: multiple fractures in his right index finger.
There was no real cause for concern, however — he just played through the pain and would presumably get it fixed in the offseason. Read More »
