The NBA’s All-Boston Team

Michael Beasley

As much as the Celtics and their 17 NBA championships have turned Boston, Mass., into a historic landmark in basketball circles — the Naismith Hall of Fame is in nearby Springfield — the city itself and the state of Massachusetts hasn’t really been known for producing home-grown ballplayers.

New York, Chicago, L.A., and more recently, places like Seattle and North Carolina have been notable hotbeds for talent supplying the college game and the NBA. Boston and its surrounding areas? Not so much. Read More »

NBA Trade Rumor: Hedo Turkoglu back to Sacramento

Hedo Turkoglu (photo. National Post)

We may soon be adding one more name to the list of NBA players forever hated in Toronto. Hedo Turkoglu, who was already getting booed by Raptors fans toward the end of his first season with the team amidst poor play and accusations of excess partying, reportedly wants to be traded back to his original NBA home in Sacramento.

At the height of the Chris Webber/Mike Bibby era, Hedo was a valuable contributor off the bench. He’s already said he’s not happy in Toronto, and according to Yahoo! Sports, the “disgruntled” 31-year-old wants to return to the Kings: Read More »

The Jekyll & Hyde Of Ray Allen

Ray Allen

Much has been made about the surprising way Boston stole Game 2 Sunday night. Andrew Bynum and Pau Gasol combined to dominate the Celtics’ frontline with a combined 46 points and 13 blocked shots. Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett were about as timid and unemotional as they’ve ever been in the playoffs. But, it was Rajon Rondo providing the dirtiness and Ray Allen, biblical in his shooting prowess, who smoothly snatched the game – and maybe the series – out of the Lakers’ grip.

After breaking down what Rondo needed to do to change his level of play in Game 2, let’s dissect how Jesus turned around his game in the Celtics’ win. Read More »

Lakers face must-win games as NBA Finals moves to Boston

Lamar Odom (photo. Tim Tadder)

Trust, you won’t find anybody on the Celtics complaining about the NBA Finals 2-3-2 format. With a squad of veterans who probably need to play up-tempo every game to win this series, a long stretch at home is just what they need. It’s especially huge for Kevin Garnett, who struggled in L.A. (11.0 ppg, 4.0 rpg), but with a week’s worth of sleeping in his own bed and eating some home cooking, should see an improvement. And apparently the Celtics left Mike Finley behind in Boston for those first two games, so they can dust him off now … As for the defending champs, everybody is making this trip about Kobe and his legacy, but what they really need is for Lamar Odom and the bench mob to step up. Glen Davis Is The New Leon Powe

Glen "Big Baby" Davis

While Ray Allen‘s eight three-pointers and Rajon Rondo‘s remarkable all-around performance are the key reasons Boston won last night’s game, Glen Davis‘ outing cannot go unnoticed – as Austin Burton mentioned in his piece earlier today. Why? After last night’s game, Davis has had his Leon Powe moment. Read More »

Name That Move: Who has the NBA’s Signature Moves?

Rajon Rondo (photo. Christian Kozowyk)

There was a moment in the first quarter of Celtics/Lakers Game 2 when Rajon Rondo drove the lane, faked a pass with his right hand, kept the ball cuffed, and as Andrew Bynum jumped to defend the air, spun around and dropped in an easy layup.

As nice as the move was, Jeff Van Gundy ruined it for me when he shouted, “That was a Goran Dragic move! He got ‘Dragic-ed’ right there!”

Ummm … no. Never mind that Rondo has been doing that move in NBA games well before Dragic, or that he does it more often. Read More »
