Earlier this week the New Jersey Devils inked 27-year-old wing Ilya Kovalchuk to a 17-year contract worth $102 million. SEVENTEEN years. When the deal runs out, Kovalchuk would be 44 years old and likely a living legend with Devils fans. (Note: The NHL rejected the contract on Tuesday for salary-cap reasons, but the Devils and Kovalchuk can still renegotiate another deal.)

I think the jury’s still out on whether or not C.J. Watson‘s three-year, $10 million contract with Bulls was a good move or not, but there’s no denying this kid can play. Case in post: a game from this past February against the Kings where Watson dropped 40 points (16-23 from the field, 2-3 from deep, 6-8 from the stripe) along with seven boards, six assists and two steals in 43 minutes.
