Magic: I wouldn’t have teamed up with Jordan and Bird

Larry Bird, Magic Johnson

After Michael Jordan and Charles Barkley weighed in with their thoughts on Miami’s “Super-Friends” collaboration, now Magic Johnson is having his say:

“We didn’t think about (superstars teaming up) ’cause that’s not what we were about,” Magic told reporters during a visit to New York. “From college, I was trying to figure out how to beat Larry Bird.”

That’s following Jordan’s comments over the weekend that he never would have teamed up with Magic and Bird because, “In all honesty, I was trying to beat those guys.” Read More »

The Anti-LeBrons: 10 NBA Stars Who Aren’t Going Anywhere

Brandon Roy (photo. Aaron Hewitt)

I don’t know much about hockey, but I know the game isn’t easy on one’s body. So whenever I see an NHL player who’s been in the League for 15 or 20 years, it always amazes me.

Earlier this week the New Jersey Devils inked 27-year-old wing Ilya Kovalchuk to a 17-year contract worth $102 million. SEVENTEEN years. When the deal runs out, Kovalchuk would be 44 years old and likely a living legend with Devils fans. (Note: The NHL rejected the contract on Tuesday for salary-cap reasons, but the Devils and Kovalchuk can still renegotiate another deal.)

Nobody in the NBA is ever getting a 17-year deal, but I was thinking of some NBA guys who are locked into their station and won’t be going anywhere anytime soon. Read More »

Painful Start for Team USA

Amar'e Stoudemire

David Lee is getting paid ($80 million), but he may not know what he’s getting into going to Golden State. Not to say there’s a curse on the franchise, but, well, No. 6 pick Ekpe Udoh has already gone down with a wrist injury that could put him out up to six months. And his replacement in the rotation will likely be Brandan Wright, who is about as durable as a cheap pinata.”That was nine days ago in Smack. Then, in his first real court time as a member of the Warriors — yesterday’s opening session the Team USA training camp — Lee suffered what was believed to be a serious right middle finger injury. Red Bull 2on2 Revolution: What the Road to $2,000 Looks Like

Some came for a chance to earn bragging rights in Boston. Others came for the chance to compete against the city’s premier playground talent. Everyone came hoping to leave $2,000 richer.

Once the whistles blew at the Back Bay Fens to start the Red Bull 2on2 Revolution Tour in Beantown, it was on. When the dust settled, and after more than a little blood was spilled, Game Time was the only team left standing.

Fear The Deer: The Bucks Have Had The Most Underrated Offseason

Milwaukee Bucks

While everyone has anointed the Heat as the Eastern Conference frontrunner (I believe they are), and the Magic, Celtics and Bulls as the best bet to challenge them, one team has slowly solidified its status as a contender: the Milwaukee Bucks. They didn’t have max money to shell out on free agents, but that hasn’t stopped them from having a brilliant offseason – even if it has gone largely unnoticed. Read More »

We Reminisce: C.J. Watson Drops 40

I think the jury’s still out on whether or not C.J. Watson‘s three-year, $10 million contract with Bulls was a good move or not, but there’s no denying this kid can play. Case in post: a game from this past February against the Kings where Watson dropped 40 points (16-23 from the field, 2-3 from deep, 6-8 from the stripe) along with seven boards, six assists and two steals in 43 minutes. Enjoy!

Rudy Fernandez Tells Portland To Send Him Home

Rudy Fernandez

Rudy Fernandez wants to go home. In a case of receiving too much, too soon, the Portland shooting guard told El Mundo Deportivo, “If I could reach an agreement with Portland, so that they would not trade me to another NBA team and they would accept my return to Europe, I’d be pleased.”

He went on to add, “My agents are looking for the best trade for me, but at the end of the day only Portland can decide.” Read More »

Dwyane Wade On The Tonight Show

In case you missed it, Dwyane Wade was on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno last night. And although I’m morally opposed to Jay after the whole Conan thing, I thought y’all might want to check it out.

Hard In Da Paint: Top 10 NBA Aggressors

Amar'e Stoudemire

My man CGF put it best: Waka Flocka Flame‘s new song, “Hard In Da Paint” (NSFW version) is the kind of track that makes you want to assault your mom with a skillet. Or to be a little more tame, it’s like I told my little cousins: You have to dance to it with a “something stinks” look on your face.

Waka won’t crack any list of the best lyricists in the rap game, but he’s a go-to guy when it comes to making songs you want on your pre-game iPod playlist to get you in the mood to play ball. These 10 NBA players personify the “Hard In Da Paint” mantra: Read More »

10 Undrafted Rookies Who Will Be On NBA Rosters This Fall

With Summer League now officially over, NBA teams are beginning to hand out training camp invites. While first-round picks have guaranteed contracts, and second-round picks are almost always assured invites to training camp, the undrafted rookies who partook in Summer League now must wait for the phone to ring allowing them to creep another step closer to being on an NBA roster. Here are 10 undrafted rookies who will be suiting up for an NBA team this fall: Read More »
